Another breeder online said in a video she spends $1500 per puppy on testing prior to sale. What are your thoughts on ethical DNA testing while balancing that with lower costs to, yes, love your puppies, but also make money as a breeder?

I address these issues in previous videos. Here’s a link to one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3alfHp5jctlsM0 Not sure who charges $1500 for a dna test. We use PawPrint Genetics and they charge a fraction of that for top shelf breed panel testing. Use code MLL2023 at checkout for a nice discount. 👍

@@must_love_labs Thank you! They seem like great breeders and sell their dogs at a higher price than some. Maybe they are adding in nice but extra services because their marketing audience is wealthier.

I have a question! Have you ever had a female go into a phantom pregnancy? If so what tips would you recommend to help a new breeder get through it?

What kind of business do you have? An LLC or something else? Also, if you already answered this in a video, could you tell me which?
@must_love_labs Жыл бұрын
Great question! When it comes up I always recommend people to get Local Advise from your CPA and / Attorney about structuring your business, and follow it. The laws vary widely from state to state. What’s appropriate for me may or may not be right for you where you live. 👍

I got my lab a dna test from embark and she has no variants. Is this normal?
@must_love_labs Жыл бұрын
No variants with that test is a good thing. Embark uses 3 terms with those test results. Clear, Carrier and At Risk. All are related to the presence and type of dna variants of certain health issues. “No variants” is excellent!

Can you breed a chocolate lab and a yellow lab and would the dogs still be considered akc
@must_love_labs Жыл бұрын
If dam and sire are both AKC registered Labrador Retrievers…yes.
@titoborjgaming Жыл бұрын
Does AKC allow dilute colors?
@must_love_labs Жыл бұрын
AKC recognizes 3 colors for Labrador Retrievers. Yellow, Black and Chocolate. They will call a dilute Black…Black. Dilute Chocolate is still a Chocolate to them. Same for dilute Yellow. It’s still Yellow to them. Great question!

Hello 👋 I have a question for you , and I’d love your feedback I have a blue fawn Frenchie who’s 18 months old and suffered a c4-c5 disc extrusion. Would this be something that would make it we shouldn’t breed him? I’ve heard conflicting views on this even from the neurologist and vets we spoke to They said IVDD is something all Frenchies are prone to and even with genetic testing it wouldn’t matter because a dog could get it anyway. His parents were genetic tested and are healthy I have cocoa fawn female Frenchie coming in in 4 weeks and planned on breeding them together but don’t wanna breed unhealthy dogs . Have you had any of your dogs show signs of IVDD ? If so what is your protocol in regards to it? Also if my male can’t breed we’d be looking for a stud in 18-20 months . Idk if that’s something you offer I own a dog daycare and getting into breeding, I’m trying to learn and surround myself with good breeders and people with expertise Congratulations on all your hard work it has definitely paid off with some beautiful pups Hope all is well and thank you for your time

Hello and thanks for watching! I’ve never had to deal with IVDD so I have no experience with it to relate. The person you want to talk to about this is a long standing Frenchie breeder named James Chopping. Here’s a link to his websitel: www.mybreedersupply.com/pages/about-us I sure he can help you with stud service and advise on Frenchies. 👍
