My dog Bandit went for his annual physical examination. The vet said he had stage 4 heart murmur. I asked her when he was there the past year vet said it was stage 3. Well Bandit has a fatty tumor on his neck. Vet said he had a collapse trachea. Not to use a collar. But he started coughing. Token back to the vet, she said he may have congestive heart failure, we need to do exray. Not blood work. I went home and did research. I found this medicine called Young at Heart. I give him that and Q10. He on a low salt diet. It helps

@Jamie Lawrence I have been doing the supplements. My vet won't get any meds unless I had an exray which was 575.00. They did blood work for heart worms and I asked why if he CHF. But the wouldn't do blood work for his heart. This vet office was bought out by corporation so they are high. But with q10, young at heart and I give him hawthorn without alcohol.

@@vha3742171my former vet was in a practice that was sold out to a corporation. Same issues, rigidity and high fees. We left the practice. Hard to find a new vet. They all want to charge like they are brain surgeons and arrogant and rigid. What ever happened to good old fashioned good vet care?

My dog is older but my dog was put on Vetmedin for stage 4 heart murmur. 4 days later, she became incontinent from the meds. I looked at reducing salt is has a diuretic effect. All pet foods I researched had salt. So I found Hilary’s Way recipe book for making her food and adding the Hilary’s nutritional supplement per recipe directions. Her incontinence receded and her energy increased. I took her resting heart rate every day and wrote it on calendar to monitor. Incontinence returned after a few months and she seemed to be worsening. I looked online and found a vet post with amazing info, in addition to this vet. He said he takes more dogs off of heart meds than he puts on. Only dogs with enlarged hearts need heart medication, in his opinion. That resonated for me bc the meds were making her whole health picture worse. I stopped the Vetmedin two weeks ago and after a few days, her kidney function improved big time. Her resting heart rate is on mark, and most importantly, she has bounced back and her energy and appetite have both improved. She’s a Jack Russell and will be 16 in December. In January of 2023, the heart specialist said the vetmedin might buy her another 12 to 18 mos. Even if she only lives another 6 mos, she will have a much better quality of life ❤

My 4.5 yr old cat was diagnosed with this disease just yesterday. Without having the financial resources, I don't think it is going to end well. He still won't eat and now doesn't seem to be drinking either. It's so sad seeing him struggling to breath because of fluid in his lungs. It's not fair and he is too young for this.

My vet said that with my beagle Bandit that Q10 and fish oil and hawthorn will not help him with heart murmur or early conjestive heart failure. Funny I have been given him this when they told me he had a 4th grade heart murmur. Two year he was at 4th grade. He know coughing and at time it alot.

My kitty was just diagnosed with HCM after an episode of difficulty breathing. She has now been put on pimobendan-vetmedin and a diruetic. She had not been put on blood thinners as yet but I have been told to be careful with supplements as they can interact with the meds. I prefer natural care.. would love to know what will be safe for her now.

My dog has been having this cough for a couple weeks now so I'm going to go ahead and take her to the vet tomorrow to have an X-ray done in blood work done if it's not kennel cough or something wrong with her trachea then the only thing that's left is congestive heart failure she'll be 11 soon I know she's getting up there in age but I need her to live a few more years if I can get her on the right recipe of medication I hope that she can live a healthy good life for a few more years

We don't have any other vets on here. They don't have xray...they don't have pro bnp. They have ecg but the new vet assigned over there, doesn't even think my dog has a heart disease. It feels like she's trying to stay away from any possibility that my dog have heart disease. She want to rule out if it isn't distemper.

My cat is on diuretic and clopidogrel after xray for possible intermediate or dilated cardiomyopahty. Vet said fluid around lungs, not in it, and didn't drain. I want to keep him from a huge hospital and more stress but was suggested he gets a heart check by a cardiologist. I want to help him but don't want to go to a random huge hopsital to do more if not necessary, he gets really stressed and has been through a lot in the last week. I'm in a new area and at a loss for what vets to trust. Can i treat him with herbs at this stage or does he need more to test? Thank you for this help.

What is your opinion on Standard Process Cardiac support? My vet recommended this for my 16 year old dog. I feed a raw homemade diet that includes many of the ingredients that are in this supplement such as heart, liver, kidney, brain, pancreas, etc., plus a ton of other stuff. I am concerned that this supplement may overdose her on some nutrients like copper. I typically prefer single ingredient supplements that allow me more control such as those you suggested. I recommend and personally use Cardiac Support for my patients all the time. I’m not concerned about copper toxicity since it’s in whole food form and it’s not a high amount. However, if there are concerns for your pets, I always recommend asking your veterinarian before starting anything new.

We have a 5 year mini dachshund and last week our vet said she developed a heart murmor. She graded it only a 2 but I am worried because she is only 5 and am worried it will get worse.
