Thanks! It's really difficult to get a good thumbnail and I was very happy with how that one came out. #10's thumbnail is okay, but boring. I like dynamic scenes of dogs acting like a dog pack. We're all surviving the heat. The dogs are actually doing better than the humans. We're out there for several hours while they typically are out for 20 minutes or so. Within the last hour we finally got the first of the monsoon rains that cool everything down.

It's actually a dog shelter, with strays, hoarding case dogs, dogs with possible behavior problems. Some of the dogs are unknown and being evaluated (think of a prison yard rather than a kindergarten). If a fight breaks out, it's important to separate the dogs quickly and safely since some dogs are conflict driven and will jump into the fight. This doesn't happen often but it can be a life and death situation for the dog. Even the handlers can be injured. If you have 10 people rushing into the play yard to separate dogs and they need to grab dogs' collars, someone could easily get bit. But despite that, the playgroups are extremely good for helping dogs get adopted/fostered and out of the shelter. Also note that your views of these videos help provide thousands of dollars of funding each month to the shelter.

What was the point of spraying the husky with water as it waited at the gate for the new puppy to join the fun?

The dogs need to be away from the gate when dogs are entering or exiting. Normally the handlers will say "out" before spraying, but a lot of times they have experience with some dogs who won't listen so they just spray them, which I agree is not good (the command is needed).

@@leightxx I believe it's very much the right group. The dogs get thousands of dollars a month via Friends of Pima Animal Care Center which is a top rated non-profit and the money goes to the greatest need in the shelter. Sometimes that's dog beds, sometimes it's an emergency purchase where the county would take much longer to buy something.

Every now and then I get what I consider an extremely cheap shot "you guys are idiots" comment and spend a lot of time explaining that the staff and volunteers care deeply for these dogs and have a huge amount of experience with thousands of shelter dogs. You'd be amazed at how far these people will go to protect each dog. This is the first time I've seen someone accuse them of leaving a husky "cold hungry & wet" in Tucson, Arizona 🌵🌵🌵 in July where the dogs are well fed and the kennel building I might argue is, if anything, too warm for a husky."

Why cant you pet them when they're in there ? Im sure they'd love the attention , especially if they're shelter dogs and dont get as much attention as a dog with a home - i know you guys do your best but why ? The dogs clearly want attention and here your employees are telling them to "get off or ill get the spray bottle"... seems kind of cruel.

I don't recall anyone spraying a dog for being genuinely affectionate, but it's probably happened. There are two reasons we're not supposed to pet the dogs (although I think all of us break that rule on a regular basis). 1) Some dogs are resource guarders and will get possessive towards a human, causing a fight. 2) The playgroup is meant to be dogs interacting and many dogs would rather interact with a person, who is less threatening and more tolerant than a dog. Each dog carries around a set of deadly teeth and will brandish those teeth all the time during play or when correcting another dog. Many dogs lack good socialization skills with other dogs and they will cling to any person who shows affection. I just finished recording a session this morning where a dog that was previously afraid of other dogs and was frightened in the playgroup is now having lots of fun with the dogs.
