@@anthonydavella8350 Yes. I just bought a $100 canopy this morning because the old one got ripped to shreds during a storm late yesterday. The Behavior Team who run the playgroups helped me set it up and it has a lot more shade than the old one for the dogs and people standing outside the yard.

@DogPlaygroupStories5 күн бұрын
These are all animal shelter dogs. Their owner is Pima County in Arizona. The staff and volunteers are doing amazing work at undoing whatever bad past each dog has in order to get them adopted. Playgroups are actually a great way for dogs to learn how to socialize. The groups of dogs are mostly very good at letting other dogs know when they're behaving badly. One reason why I believe these videos are excellent for dogs at home is because they can see various types of behavior and see the results of it. It's like watching a movie with "good guys" and "bad guys".

Why dose that fat person behind the table always has to be so mean to the fur babies. She doesn't need to drag them through the gate when they're coming in to the play . There's no reason for that how would she feel being dragged her by the neck through their like she does to them. She needs that jug taken away to. When they're sitting there playing there's no reason for her to sit there and yell at them and shake The jug at them. She doesn't have the right job being out there with the fur babies. . Need to find a different position for her. Or get rid of her in a job that doesn't have to deal with fur babies.

8 hours dog in daycare
@DogPlaygroupStories7 күн бұрын
The 8-hour video consists of 4 different days of actual playgroups. Playgroups only last about 2 or 3 hours and dogs are cycled through the playgroup, so any given dog is typically in the playgroup for about 20 minutes. Some dogs stay longer if they're doing fine.

The handlers who run the playgroups are trained in knowing when to send dogs back to their kennels. Overall the staff and volunteers have years of experience with many thousands of shelter dogs. It's important to get most of the frightened dogs into the playgroup in order to desensitize them from being frightened of other dogs. Eventually most of them improve a lot. Some go on to be fairly social. The purpose of this is to help them to get adopted and out of the shelter. Note that when those frightened dogs are back in their kennels, they can be even more frightened.

Omgg! I turned this video on for my dog and thought the surroundings in the video looked familiar. I adopted a lab mix puppy in April of ‘22 from this shelter. He was my dream dog. 😍 We drove across the country that summer and now live in the Midwest and he loves it. It was such a blessing to adopt him from this shelter. We live next to a wide open field where he can run and play and he does a great job of being a guard dog. He also loves the snow! ❄️ He’s loving, affectionate, and protective. His name at the shelter was Sunny. His name now is Oliver Sunny Robinson. 😁☀️🤗🌸 The staff at Pima Animal Care Center are amazing as well. 💗

Clearly they need water!!!
@DogPlaygroupStories13 күн бұрын
This was during a very serious disease outbreak and the lead veterinarian made the difficult decision to continue with playgroups since they lowered dogs' stress level, making them less susceptible. But we had to remove the common water which could easily spread the disease very quickly. None of us were happy about it, but it was actually best for the dogs. We monitored them for symptoms of dehydration and avoided leaving them in the yard for a long time. And we held the playgroups in the early morning before it got too hot. The lead veterinarian at the shelter works with other shelters to determine the best practices among animal shelters.

Why doesn't the dogs get water ? And why do they look so skinny? Where are u located for donations
@DogPlaygroupStories13 күн бұрын
Regarding skinny dogs: we get a lot of stray dogs, dogs from hoarding cases, abuse, neglect, dogs with gunshot wounds and other health issues. We have our own dedicated clinic with veterinarians. The staff and volunteers work with the dogs and flag any issues. They really do heroic work! Typically the dog will then be evaluated the same day. We're in Tucson, Arizona USA and the best place for donations is Friends of Pima Animal Care Center. www.friendsofpacc.org/ Regarding water (copying again): this was during a very serious disease outbreak and the lead veterinarian made the difficult decision to continue with playgroups since they lowered dogs' stress level, making them less susceptible. Did you just hit the dog with a plastic jug? WTF
@DogPlaygroupStories13 күн бұрын
Here's what I wrote earlier about it: I went back to the original footage and watched it frame-by-frame. He grazed the side of Bonnie's head. The jug contains a small number of small rocks and is intended to make a lot of noise without weighing much. It was no worse than what the dogs routinely do to each other. The staff are trained by some of the best dog experts you'll find and I've sat through a 5-day training session with Dogs Playing for Life who pioneered shelter dog playgroups. I've read a lot of complaints in the comments but only one actually identified something the staff did wrong (it was about 3 months ago).

@DogPlaygroupStories15 күн бұрын
You mean all these dogs that are discarded by society? Sometimes people get into very difficult financial situations, sometimes they can't find housing that will allow dogs (or their dog's breed). Sometimes the owner dies and no one is able to adopt the dog. We've had hoarding cases where law enforcement had to take a large number of dogs away due to negligence and health issues. But I suspect a lot of them are people discarding their dogs. One of the saddest things is that almost every dog at the shelter has lost everyone they cared about. But when dogs come in together and get along, the shelter keeps them together while they're at the shelter (and people are encouraged to adopt both).
@Bacchibeatz11 күн бұрын
@@DogPlaygroupStories yeah I mean some stuff is out of your hands right but I’m talking about owners that just give up or abandon their pets. It’s sad. It’s Not like a person that can understand. I don’t know I’m just rambling lol
@DogPlaygroupStories7 күн бұрын
@@Bacchibeatz Yes, when people surrender a dog at the shelter, the dog has no idea what's going on. The shelter is very noisy and frightening and I see a lot of sad dogs. The volunteers (and staff) go to great lengths to help each dog, but their behavior usually gets worse over time.
@DinFL15 күн бұрын
Hi! What is the purpose of the spray bottle?
@DogPlaygroupStories15 күн бұрын
It's a correction tool (aversive). With lots of shelter dogs in one yard, experience shows that it's necessary to let dogs know when they're doing something wrong. Dogs do the same thing with each other using barks/snarls/growls/etc. A lot of these dogs have behavior issues from abuse/neglect and so there's a lot of bad behavior. Ideally the handler begins by spraying the ground near the dog's feet. If that doesn't work, they spray the dogs feet, then back, and then finally their face. The spray bottle targets one dog. The shake can targets the whole group of dogs in one area. The jug full of rocks (used for the noise it makes, not to actually hit a dog with it) is used in extreme cases where a fight is likely to break out. The handlers work with the many of the same dogs each day, so they often know they need to start at a higher level of escalation than the minimum.
