Hi. Treatment involved immunosuppressive with steroids and cytarabine. Encephalitis is typically autoimmune and carries a guarded long term prognosis. Thanks for your questions!

Southeast Veterinary Neurology of Miami I came across this video in doing research of my 6 yo Yorkie recent diagnosis of Yorkie Encephalitis/GME. It has been 48 hours and she has been treated by local veterinary neurologist in Jacksonville FL with prednisone, antibiotics and anti seizure meds. She is still currently hospitalized - She seized a total of 5 times in the first 24 hours and has lost vision on both sides. Similar to Charlie in this video, she still cannot stand up. She is eating, hasn’t had anymore seizures, but still cannot stand (she tries to but can’t walk) and vision has not come back. Did Charlie respond immediately to the medication? Or did it take a full 5 days for him to recover? Is charlie going to be treated long term with steroids/anti seizure meds? Thank you very much for posting.

Hi I was if the treatment helped your dog. I also came across this while researching my mini poodles symptoms and they're pretty much identical to what's in the video. The video shows Charlie 5 days later almost like a miracle recovery and I saw you mentioned your dog was hospitalized so I'm wondering if he recovered as well.

When using steroid treatment, does it need to be accompanied by antibiotic to prevent infection or to treat possible infection induced encephalitis?

Yes. He did great for years with treatment. This video is from a good 8 years ago. I believe we have a post that shows “after treatment” on KZbin.

Our little Herbie had to be put down a month ago due to PDE. He was 10 months old. This disease is terminal no cure. The Dr's put him on auto immune suppressant therapy, anti seizure drugs and medication to keep the swelling down in his brain. All these medications did not work for him.

@@brendasharp90 That's absolutely not true. Many dogs have been cured completely by localized radiation therapy, while others have been cured after longer battles of a combination of immune suppressants and Holistic therapies. There's always hope. Just because you gave up on your pet, doesn't give you the right to steal others hopes away from them.

@@hahna77 excuse me I never gave up. He was seizing on anti seizure medications. He would have suffered and I chose not to put him through that. The Vet at the hospital told us he would only have a couple months if that. Don't ever tell me O gave up on my Pug. We did everything we could to save him. You know nothing about his medical situation and what 3 different Vets told us. It breaks my heart everyday that he is gone. So keep your fat trap shut about me giving up on our Pug!!!
