Even though they are different breeds, they still come from the same line. So I’m guessing they just put both breeds in the same video.
@e.i.30775 жыл бұрын
@@ifuckedyourdad8984 I think it's more like denial because the Akitas that were given to the Americans were, to put it simply, mutts. At the time, the breed was nearly extinct and the remaining Akita had been mixed with other breeds, those are the ones who were sent to America. The Japanese Akita Inu that we see nowadays is the product of a rigurous and strict breeding program designed by a Japanese association to return the breed to its original characteristics and appearance, yet the American Kennel Club won't recognise them as different breeds because it would be like admitting that the American line is not the real thing.

They always say this dog is aggressive and doesn't like other dogs. My akc Akita is the exact opposite. No aggression period. Plays with all animals that are friendly. But i love her, and she is very alert, not a lot of grooming but anywhere they lay when shedding will be covered in hair. Can adapt to any environment size as long as they are stimulated twice a day for an hour.
@Ispeakthetruthify4 жыл бұрын
The Akita, by nature and breeding, is a loyal, protective, and aggressive dog. It has been bred to be aggressive towards other animals, and protective of it's immediate family. Now of course, all Akita's are not like this, each dog has it's own persona. But overall, they usually fit the mold the breed was made for.

Gentle and calm rings bells for me - my own akita was registered as a therapy dog. We visited a local hospice where staff, patients and visitors were just besotted with him. He had an uncanny ability to recognize people that didn't want to say hi and would just walk past. He was particularly good with children and, in turn, they seemed to instinctively realise that this 30 inch, 100 pound furball was no threat. He got me through some tough times and is still sorely missed.

I had an akita. Her name was Mocha and she was adopted as a puppy a few years before I was born. She died when I was 20. It's still really hard for me to accept it. In my opinion she was the best dog ever, but I will say, from experience, Dogs101 are almost 100% correct about owning an akita. She was very territorial and very independent. She liked to play and be petted but didn't like to cuddle. She liked her space and was a tough, strong sturdy dog who didn't trust many people out side of her family. So if you want this dog, that's great! You'll have a wonderful experience, but do keep in mind I promise you, if you don't train it right, that dog could become very aggressive during unfamiliar situations.

My parents had an Akita Shepherd mix for years named Oso. He was VERY loveable, and not agressive at all. He was more like a giant lap dog. He did like to run and play though. He just recently died of old age. He was about 15 or so. We loved him very much. RIP Oso.

my akita, almost a year now he is just a sweet heart. he never barks at other dog or attack them. he loves people and let anyone pat him. his favorite thing in the world is to play with other dogs at the park. he is a little territorial but never aggressive I was a little worried before we brought him into our family because of this video, but I guess some akita are naturally friendly like my dog, so not all of them are aggressive and dangerous only thing, they are big dogs and other dog owners think my akita is attacking their dog when he just wants to say hi

I have a 4-1/2 year old male Akita. I've only seen him show real aggression to one dog; a little runt who chewed on my boot when I was trying to get it away from us on a walk. My akita does not generally like other people - other than his "puppy pack" people - but will tolerate them. The akita is beautiful, but they are very intimidating with what I like to call their "1000 year old" eyes. I get a lot of "what a beautiful dog!" - from 15 feet away. LOL. Not many people want to approach him, especially when he lays his appraising gaze upon them. I consider the akita to be the King of dogs and wish I had discovered this breed in my younger years. Overall, he is the best dog I have ever had. I sleep very well at night knowing he is in the house. A warning to those considering this breed as a pet: If you are not willing to put in the work necessary for this breed, do not get one! They require training in their early years, and socialization; more so than other breeds IMO. They are willful, smart, and prone to ignore orders they don't think are necessary. Patience, consistency, love, and a firm but respecting hand are crucial.
@sukhmand53274 жыл бұрын
m. d. D. do you think i should consider an akita if im not experienced with dogs?
@m.d.d.30514 жыл бұрын
@@sukhmand5327 In a word. No. Before I got my akita I had a few other dogs, a husky (another Northern Spitz breed) being the closest in the independent, willful category. I will tell you the akita is a unique breed in many ways. If you have never owned a dog, they are not a good choice. The akita is a naturally dominant breed, and if they don't think you are worthy of leading, they will rule your world. They are also easily bored and will do things just to entertain themselves - which may not fit into what you want from them. Finally, they are not a "try out" dog. By that I mean if they bond with you, they are with you for life. Or should be. They are not a breed that is easily re-homed if they don't work out for your situation. If the breed interests you, I would suggest one of the other breeds in the northern spitz branch - husky, alaskan eskimo dog, or so on. They will be challenging, and give you an intro to what an akita will bring to the table. They will also teach you how to handle an independent dog, and if you are diligent, teach you how to train. As one site on Akitas said, "Akitas are not for the faint of heart." They're right.

Own 2, I've had a lot of breeds, and they are excellent dogs. If you train them early on in puppyhood that you're the leader they will have undying loyalty, and be constant pleasers, plus they give their owners tons of love. They would be my number one if it weren't for the German Shepherd. :) Another plus, they are super big, and great to hug!

We've had our Akita for nearly nine years. He is one of the finest dogs we've ever had in the family. I grew up with pure bred German Shepherds. I've also had a Chow Chow and a few other breeds. Each is great in their own way. None is like the Akita in my opinion. There is one main problem that one has to contend with and that is the shedding. I've come up with my own solution in dealing with our Akita's twice a year shedding. None the less, it is a mess. We've learned to over look that problem because our Akita is a part of the family. Just like each of us has physical flaws to contend with and yet accept one another it is so with the shedding of our Akita. We've really grown close to our Akita. He sort of talks when he's hungry or bored. He sounds like Scooby Doo.....He will bark from the living room when strangers walk by on the side walk. Other than that he seldom barks. A chow chow did attack our dog around six years ago on the street as he minded his own business. He unleashed his fury in a self defense mode, literally bulldozing right over the attacking dog. That dog immediately ran away in terror. Another time three loose dogs ran up to attack him. He stood there staring at them. Two backed off. The third a bull dog tried to attack our Akita. Our Akita simply brushed him off standing right over him. Our Akita didn't hurt him and has never hurt any other dog. I've taught him to be civil. He is weary of strangers that enter our home but is not aggressive toward them. He will simply go out thru his doggy door and wait till the stranger leaves........ Our Akita enjoys being with the family. He cannot stand being isolated. He is family oriented and is very protective.

Instinct/genetics takes over no matter how much time or money you have. I'm not saying you can't own one but don't depend on training one second.

it's not actually true.. check akita history and origin, american akita and japanese akita. akita-dog.com is a great research website. you will find that japanese modified/improved in their opinion the breed in order to have a more slender body and certain coat patterns to the actual japanese akita. americans did not know about this plan and just crossed breed the existing akitas in america. therefore, it is thought that american akitas actually share more characteristics with the original akita than the modern japanese akita.

ahahhaah Japanese Akita are also mixed with GSD and Tosa
@1baby6 жыл бұрын
The Japanese are mixed more you dumbass. American Akitas better resemble the Akitas of old, modern day Japanese Akitas resemble Shibas far more.

ive got a akita Shes so Pretty and shes very old shes 77 in doggie years shes fine shes not making us pay extra and she dosnt shed alot =I so what are they talking about
@Bjorn30810 жыл бұрын
Honestly, most people just don't train their dogs right if at all. Thats why certain breeds get a bad rep. I had 3 rottweilers when I was 5 years old, best dogs I ever had too. They were friendly and gentle because they were trained to be that way.
@carolynblack982210 жыл бұрын
Shedding is all relative. Any double coated breed is going to shed their undercoat a few times a year, plus the usual shedding year round, and need regular brushing to prevent mats. But someone with a non-shedding breed such as a poodle, is going to think they shed a lot.
@tinkerbellp90039 жыл бұрын
Carolyn Black exactly. i have a Border Collie, a Boxer and an Akita... the Boxer sheds the worse in my opinion. her fur sticks and weaves it's way into everything. my Akita's fur is much longer and finer so it sorta clumps together and cleans up way easier.

do akitas need a lot of exercise, I wanna get one soon but I live in an apartment and work kind of a lot
@Calypsow7 жыл бұрын
MarioIsLife for the Japanese and original version : Akita Inu, they're known to love sleeping and doing nothing of their days, they can live in an apartment without any problems, but still are very energetic and crazy once outside. And even though they're lazy sometimes, they need a strict education, since they are extremely intelligent, it can be very easy, as well that it can be pretty hard to teach them basic things.(Obey and learn INCREDIBLY fast with treats, may not even give a shit if your hands are empty). Most of the time, they do not get along well with other dogs especially ones that are the same sex as yours so you have to pay attention when you go for a walk with your dog. Mine is very aggressive when she meets other dogs...but they are awesome dogs if you're an awesome owner, hope it helped you :)

I can tell you from experience that apartments are awful conditions to keep a dog like this. I had a beautiful Akita x Alaskan Malamute and it was very difficult because of their coat blowouts and constant energy (needing walks). Look into it more before you do. It's a huge responsibility.

Good advice!!!! I adopted one 10+ years ago and it was just us. We bonded because of the time and attention she got. This is not a dog you put outside all day and walk once a week. My girl needed to be involved in almost everything I did and I loved it. Like piscespeter3 is saying, if you can't make alot of time for an Akita don't get one.

Adopted an Akita 11 years ago. She was 1 1/2 years old and abandoned in the streets. This was the best thing I ever did, loyalty and companionship was what she brought to me. Were best friends and bonded so easily. My girl is unreplaceable.

My dog is a husky Akita mix. He acts very much like an Akita. We used have just a full Akita but she got hit by a car :(. She was very much like this. She always protected our yard and us. Now we have Kilo (the husky Akita mix) and Toby (a chocolate lab)

oh my god! a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing...LIKE THIS 4 minute video!!!...ridiculous!! you can NOT sum up a breed in 4 minutes or 4 hours even...these dog 101s are DANGEROUS to any breed ESPECIALLY a unique, special breed like the Akita...i have 2 now and have had one before them...and before that i raised and showed champion rough & smooth Collies...what a difference!...but had i met Akitas before Collies i would have never had another breed!...if you REALLY want to know about Akitas do NOT go to dogs 101...go to shows, go to breeders, go to books and training classes!!! spend a year or MORE researching the breed THEN come back here and make comments!!!

My akita died just recently. She was only a puppy when I was born. We were basically the same age. Very strong animals and loving. As a puppy she would kill a lot of birds; since their breed is known for hunting skills. Love love love that dog and miss her so much.

My mom’s boss had one of these dogs and he was overly aggressive due to the owner never being there. The dog bit my mom multiple times but wasnt put down ever. He once saved my mom from a pitbull that chased her. Loved that dog so much but never was given the proper love however he earned my respect. Love you Alfred the Akita
@alias58811 жыл бұрын
Akitas are insanely loyal to the family if you get them before they're a year old. They're also very smart dogs, and very gentle. You can put your hand in their mouth and they'll kind of look at you funny, but they'll never bite you. This is all if you're in the family. If you're a stranger, be on your toes, because while most are at ease around all people, some can be aggressive to strangers until thoroughly examined (they make great guard dogs). All in all the Akita is my preferred breed. :)
