I must say huskies are extremely loyal to their owners. My brother rescue a Husky from a shelter, but he didn't quite took the responsibility of taking care of him. Basically, I feed him, pick up his poop, shower him (boy that's a challenge), pet him, and still that husky won't give me the same respect he has for my brother. Even though my brother barely pays attention to him, he still remains loyal to him. I think is because of the fact that he is the one that pick him at the shelter, he knew at that instant that this was his new owner. It kind of makes me jealous because I love him more than my brother, and he just ignores me when my brother pays some attention to him.

+Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh You're wrong. My grandparents had a breeder certified pure-bred Siberian Husky. Every time, without fail, anyone that Nanook (his name) wasn't familiar with came close to their yard, he would immediately get up or run over and position himself watchfully between the stranger and my grandmother. They never trained him to do anything like that. He just did it of his own initiative.

when I was 6, I used to eat outside during the summer. I was sitting there eating a sandwich when I hear this howl from right next to me, scared me half to death. I look over and I see this female stray husky who was clearly begging and you could see why. poor thing was skin and bones and her coat was all matted. I ripped my food in half and gave a part to her. after that she kept coming back. now when my grandmother found out she insisted I stay away from it for obvious reasons that make more sense now. however she soon realized this dog was staying, partly because I hadn't listened to her and gave the dang thing a name, and so she started paying closer attention to little crystal. and she fell in love with that dog. we fed her, gave her a bath (she looked completely different after that one) and crystal (the blue eyes. eh, like I said I was 6) became a part of the family and my favorite companion for the next 4 years when she died.

Vulpine_Foxy 3 things wrong with that theory. 1. If it was "wild" it wouldn't trust a human that easily, and it would know how to hunt to keep itself fed. 2. There's no such thing as a 'wild' husky. 3. Huskies are no more closely related to wolves than any other dog, unlike their appearance.

I delivered morning newspapers when I was a kid in a northern MN town. On many subzero winter mornings like at 5 am, I would deliver to this one place that had their husky sleeping in the snow, under a pine tree overnight. He would be all curled up with his tail over his nose. It didn’t bother him a bit. He was a great dog.

I also rescue my husky and I could not have a better dog . He is loyal and very SMART so training is UP to him he may not WANT to be trained exactly when I want to do it . Very protective and selective if it comes to people who he ALLOWES to come near me . TALKS all the time and expect me to understand EVERYTHING and if i do not he gets very loud . Loves to play a ball but if the ball does not end up where he wants to he barks at it to the point of having tantrum . He gets ZOOMIES at least few times a day and takes few minutes before he is done with it . Patience is not known to him , whatever he wants it has to be happening right now. PERFECT dog for me !

Togo was considered the true hero of the Mercy Run of 1925, as he led the team through the most dangerous leg of the trail ❤ Balto received the credit, as lead dog. Balto was an amazing husky and did an amazing job, but Balto did not run the length of difficult terrain, in the horrendous conditions, or cover as much danger and ice during the Serum Run, as Togo

Balto was the lead dog of the team that covered the last leg of the serum run to Nome a distance of 53 miles. Togo was the lead dog of the team that travelled 260 miles. To know them is to love them. Huskies are stunningly beautiful and loving canines. Their eyes, coloring and mask alone are enough to make you want one for a family companion. The biggest problems are their energy level and the constant shedding. I have had three in the past and they are the most loving and demanding dogs i have ever owned. My first two were females which really helped with the exercise. They played all day with each other in the yard especially in the cold snowy winter days and I walked them for at least an hour every night no matter what the weather was. However, if left alone in the house they chewed everything in sight, even the kitchen table and chairs. Rawhide bones are their favorite chews, but this can get expensive. As for the shedding , WOW, can they shed. Constant vacuuming is mandatory just to keep up with fur they leave everywhere especially on your clothes. A large lint roller is also mandatory. Now the really great things. They are like little children and can con you into almost anything. I you can look into those eyes and listen to their howels which sound like words and deny them what they want you are far stronger than I ever was with them. Their individual personalities really shine, which I think makes them one of the best companions you will ever have. They will become loving, protecting members of your family. One word of caution, don't let anyone strange try to take their toys or chew bones or threaten a member of your family. They will probably get rightfully bitten. Our third Husky was a male. He was large, 90 lbs., totally white and was the total opposite of the females. He never did anything wrong. Never chewed anything, nor stole food if left unattended. He was the perfect Husky. I hope my experience with this wonderful breed will give you some insight before you decide to bring one home a a new family member.

Huskies have a LOT of energy. Like nadernader said, they take a lot of commitment. We walk/jog our Husky twice a day, covering about 8 miles in total and she still has energy to play in between. Regular walking is hugely important, it keeps the husky healthy and gets rid of a lot of energy, it also gets the dog used to other people, animals, sights and sounds which is essential for any dog.

I have a husky named Bruno who is almost 1 years old. What this video does not say is that lots of exercise, patience, cold outdoor climate, plenty of room, time, and a playful and patient family with mature children is needed for this dog. If you know what you are doing they are GREAT pets!

@Earthlinked10 жыл бұрын
What the video DOES NOT tell you - is that Huskies are a lot of work - if they are NOT exercised (taken for a walk on a leash) AT LEAST 1 hour per day - they WILL get bored - and when they are bored - then are not good dogs - they dig and chew ANYTHING!!! They are very hyper dogs - and you MUST burn their energy off!!!! SO PLEASE figure 1 hour PER DAY for a Husky - a DAILY 1 hour walk is GREAT!!! And when they shed - there is hair EVEYRWHERE!!! You can always tell good Husky owners - they have GREAT vacuum cleaners!!!!!!! And after all of this upkeep and exercise -- one thing is for sure - you will never find a more friendly, loving, kind and playful dog - as long as you live!!! Huskies are TERRIBLE guard dogs - as the burglars are likely to be licked and played with. Huskies howl almost nightly (calling their pack)!!!!!

I do agree with a lot of the "Don't get one as your first dog!" I won't say mine is my first dog but he is definitely my first dog I have had on my own. But I also did 3.5 years of research on them and volunteered at places that gave me a chance to get to know them and got to do some training with them. So I made sure I knew what I was getting into! Read, help out at and talk to rescues, talk to breeders! Do a lot of research before you get one of these dogs. Nobody is lying when they say they are stubborn!

zenaku Aruba there are plenty of short haired dogs. I live in the States in the northeast, about 40 miles south of New York City where our winters have temperatures that dip into the 20's (degrees Fahrenheit) for extended periods of time, and i would never get a siberian husky. We have summers here where the temperature can range from 75-100+ degrees F. These dogs are meant for places that are very cold for 7-8 months out of the year….and where the summer months don't get above 70 degrees. It is a tough life for a siberian husky in warm climates...

Man this dog . Let me tell you something you will never have a moment of dull with a Siberian Husky . They are always so active , playful , joyful, awkward , stubborn . Mine is 7 years old and still acts on his own , in fact he escaped twice the other day ... their are fun to be around , but don’t expect them to listen to you . Even the best trained husky will act on his own , it’s their personality and that’s what make them special . It’s not a dog that does what you tell him to do . He does what he wants to do, that’s why in my opinion he is like a human for me . It’s like I am talking to a friend or walking with a friend. Every day is a New day . Also they are close to family members and tend to want to play with other dogs , so when you take him for a walk expect him to jump and scream when he sees a dog , well that’s at least until he is properly trained . Even tough he is not really a guard dog , he can sometime be aggressive as they have a strong instinct . Most importantly secure his surroundings , he will escape . Mine has escaped I would say 20 times in 7 years , he tried everything digging the dirt , jumping The fence , waiting for someone to accidentally leave the door open , that’s why I say you will always have fun because you will probably chase him a lot . It’s like a family member with his own personality . Oh and they can be weird a lot . For example mine every time come inside has to seat in the same spot on the sofa , and when I feed him he awaits for me to leave him alone before start eating ahah. Great dog to have fun with , but lots of work and hard discipline to do

Just some information about getting a husky: If you plan to get a husky, understand that they are very hard to take care of and are very into getting your attention. Some may not do that; every individual dog has their own personality, so training can be different for others. But normally, huskies are very atheltic and can be sometimes hard to train. As much as they can be rough, it's very rewarding once you give them the proper leadership and guidance they need.

It's true. My Sibie just turned 1, and for the first year (especially) you essentially have to sit on top of them. Please do not get a husky just because it looks cool or cute. Huskies require a lot of attention/care, and it's not like owning a pug or Boston terrier at all. If you live in hot climate during the summer, you need to keep your husky cool as possible in air conditioning. If you don't live in a country where A/C is used 24/7 during the summer, then don't get a husky because it will still be too hot with just shade and water. Also, if you're low energy or lazy, please do not get a husky unless you are prepare to exercise it. I'm not talking about waking around the block several times either. Huskies are not for everyone, and there are many other breeds out there to fit your lifestyle. Please do your research before you decide to get a husky because your husky will be unhappy and suffer if you have no idea what you're doing. There are many puppies and dogs at the shelter that will fit your lifestyle if huskies are not for you. Huskies are not like your average dog either

+Thoai Nguyen I like your good censible advice you given here,but don't try to be an expert on husk breeds am English,north England can be extremely could in winters,my dogs starting with chyanne its winter now and my husky chy would need to be put into our coal effect fire to get closer,truly truly,and she has a thick thick coat anyhow,even iam puzzeled about my beauty needing to be closer to our fire having such a lovely thick thick fur coat anyhow,but hey she will lie there as close as she can get,without falling in the war big fire anyhow,strange but true,also she's a tiny tiny bit lazy,àn I will get a resent photo so you can understand what I mean,as for walking husks severely times round the bloke 2 to 3 times a day/is adequate for a husky if that's as good as you can manage daily n nightly,don't get me wrong every husk would like further walks buy so would other breeds like say a mungrel dog of a medium bild etc, its rubbish that ppl make it sound crule to husks if you don't walk them for 8miles daily in 2 vigous walks,husks are working dogs built to pull sledges for miles if needed be but there lifes don't depend on it,huskys can fit nicely into regular dogs life styles,so plz plz don't make huskys and dog lovers in general,put off by ppl like yourself making it out of a regular familys grasp,if you are relatively active,don't work or what ever where your huskys gonna be locked up for 10hrs going insane cause lack of social activity,be it you or another dogs taken out the huskys life all day every day then that's not good,food,I have 2 husky bitches,chyenne mother of delfie ,chy been 9 nearly delfie 4yrs,1 chicken wing send frozen on mornings,6tea time 1 large mug of quality dry food an half a tin each of tuna chunks with oil not brine,good 4coats,2t3 mostly 3 walks,of around 50 minutes round our lovely park or 3 times roundthe park ,both our dogs are happy in nature fit n well,an commented on what lovely looking friendly dogs they are,so am doing something right,huskys are beautiful breeds like lots ppl thought I'd need few acers of land and massive house,to be privileged in owning this amazing breed an its bullshit but do get professional advice n learn as much as poss first n try if poss a short 2or 3 days with husks just making sure you will manage life with a unique breed second 2 none..

Ok so, i live in California, in LA to be specific, i love Huskys but i don't know if it's ok for them to live in such a warm environment. Health wise i mean i know it's legal to have them in California. I do have air conditioning and i have a pool that is kept pretty cold, Also it tends to cool down a lot at night in LA. Would it be ethically unsound to get a Husky?

***** have you ever been to florida? Florida is not nearly as warm as california. Its more humid, but not as warm. A husky would be fine there as an indoor dog. In addition you could shave the dogs fur down to a shorter length, i know someone who does this to their chow and he is appreciative of it.

@vernonprice598610 жыл бұрын
California is fine for a husky, just be smart about it. Use common sense. Do not ever leave them outside in the sun, when it's hot make sure they have constant free access to air conditioning and plenty of water, if it's been hot outside test the pavement with the palm of your hand to make sure they don't burn their paws, if it's hot on your walks keep them short and don't overtax the husky. Most importantly: Huskies, in some ways more than any other breed, want to be a part of your human family. They do not want to be left outside, they do not want to be locked in a room. They want to be with you wherever you are, and wherever you go. Treat them as an actual member of your family, take them with you when you go places, train them using positive reinforcement and respect them. Make sure they get lots of exercise, create activities that involve both of you. When you do these things you will have an extremely happy husky, and as other husky owners will tell you, a happy husky is just about the best thing in the world. Only use positive reinforcement training methods. Punishment-based training DOES NOT WORK on huskies, and you will destroy your relationship if you try it. Huskies are insanely smart, and they will learn to push your buttons - intentionally - if you don't form a solid, trusting relationship with them. If you need more advice on how to train positively, watch "It's Me or the Dog" with Victoria Stilwell, or go to her site: positively.com It's probably not an accident that she has a picture of a Siberian on the front page, as huskies are notoriously mischievous and difficult to train if you don't do it right. Oh yeah and don't ever, EVER shave your husky's coat. EVER. Huskies, like all dogs, release heat by panting, and through their paws, not their body. They don't sweat like humans. Huskies need their full double coat because it protects their skin from the sun, and it also works to trap cool air under the outer coat when it's hot. But a lot of huskies like a good swim, so your pool is potentially one of the best ways to keep a husky cool in the summer. Just don't shave his coat.

Such beautiful animals. I hate it when I see some dumb husky-owner take out his husky at +40 deg Celsius for a walk outside. These animals are meant for cold climate. Even with their short hair for warmer weather they are still fluffy and warm underneath. The same way you don't take out a miniature pinscher at -15 deg Celsius. Some people just don't think when they decide to acquire a pet.
@KatrinaMaslowTV110 жыл бұрын
Actually the husky dose just fine in hot weather the fluffy shields from cold and traps warm air yes, but also from heat and traps cooler air Having a husky in sayyy California (were i live and theres to s of huskys here) they do perfectly fine, u know as long as your not leaving them out there for a long time. They may be dogs but they'll let you know if its too hot.

There is running space, but not enough for this dog, and I'm not sure I'd be able to care for this dog as much as it needs right now. It sucks, because I adore these dogs. What I do is keep them cool with the AC during the summer and walk/run her in the early morning before I go to work and then walk her late at night when I get back. About two or three hours each session (but only because we love to explore and play) In between we play in our medium sized yard and I dump some ice cubes in her little pool which she loves btw. Keeping yourself and your dog cool in the winter isn't even rocket science. rofl

+CopyWheelEye 0 I'm happy that you care well for your dog, but you have to admit that very few people have the resources, time, or inclination to put that much work into their pet. If you're so able to care for it that you won't get discouraged, that's great.

It really pisses me off when the vets in this series just say "I maybe wouldn't recommend an arctic dog to tropical conditions..." Yeah bitch of course not, it will kill the dog! Overheating is a serious problem when people don't know how to take care of their cold-climate dogs in hot weather. Why can't they just say that absolutely do not get a husky if you live in LA etc. You'd have to shave the dog for it to be even remotely comfortable in the heat... Yeah sure it might accustom to it at some point, but why not just get a dog that would do well with heat in the first place? Sometimes it just seems these people are more concerned with people's emotions and if they are offended than the well-being of the dog.
@babanlava9 жыл бұрын
KaregoAt Pisses me off too. I live in country with extremely hot climate and huskies and malamutes have become the most popular breeds in the past few years. And whenever someone suggests that arctic dogs shouldn't live in this climate, they argue, 'oh, they will adapt. Dogs are good adapters.' So ridiculous!
@KaregoAt9 жыл бұрын
Lava Bakir Too many people these days get dogs based solely on their appearance. Dogs have become accessories more than companions, and it's so sad. There are many good breeds that would do great in hot climates but people choose to get huskies because they look cool. I hope they would have the sense to put on a winter coat and go for a run, see how it feels then.
@babanlava9 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. I know someone who has a pet husky, he barely takes him for a run, leaves him in their basement "because he will wreck the house if he is let in" without any air conditioning, and he is lucky if he gets a little walk every day. It is horrible.
@KaregoAt9 жыл бұрын
Lava Bakir Yeah, that's another good example of a person that doesn't bother to find out about the breed before buying, and then tries to correct unwanted behavior by creating more stress. If the dog got plenty of exercise, he probably wouldn't pour his energy into wrecking his house. I really wish there was some sort of education, an evaluation or a test required before you can own a pet.

I've grown up around huskies and they are amazing and beautiful dogs. They are very stubborn and really hard to train. Shedding is probably the worst problem with these dogs, that and if you don't train them they will destroy your yard and dig numerous holes. A high fence is a must if you don't want to keep them on a leash. A normal chain fence they will jump over in a heartbeat if they get the chance. Extending the fence and/or putting concrete in the ground under the fence is a good idea too. They will do good in just about any climate if grooming is done often and right. Helping it get rid of its winter coat when it starts to shed will help it tremendously in the spring and summer. They do have a tendency to run off if they aren't talking on walks/jogs/runs. They are a awesome breed if you have experience with them or other dogs who are stubborn and hard to train, but every dog is different even if it's the same breed do its hit or miss no matter what dog you pick.

I wouldn't recomend this dog to anyone unless the live in Siberia or Alaska. I had a husky he died last week bcuz he got hit by a car. Everyday, no matter what, he would get! loose NO MATTER WHAT!! Me and my dad tried everything, chain in the ground didn't work, he would either pull it out or chew threw it. Pen didn't work, he would break down the door and chew it apart, chew right threw the wire, or hurdle the 6 feet. We had 4 acres for him to run around on and all the woods and land he needed and he would always get loose and come back but on his way back this time he got hit. He would always go to the neighbors to play with their Australian Shepard bcuz he was the only dog he wasn't afraid of, other dogs he literally peed himself when he saw (literally) he was not brave, scared of everything! Loved him to death, least agressive dog ever!! Very very eager to run and run and run. Loved being around people, he could keep a pace of 30mph for 3 miles probably even longer. I took him on runs with me when he was two months old no problem at all for him to keep up! A husky has the potential of being one of the greatest dogs, but I still don't recomend them to anyone who can't give them atleast a minimum of 8 miles of fast running a day. They do not tire out I promise, and eventually they will pay the price!!!!! :( he was a year old this month! Have any questions feel free to ask, I know everything their is to know about dogs! U want the best dog in the world, get a German Shepard no doubt in my mind.
