@rumking13913 жыл бұрын
@@David-iv6je well, for me it’s the third/outro solo that is amazing… the whole song is played 1 step lower for all string instruments, but when Gilmour went into the booth to record that last one, the guitar he had was in regular tuning. You can hear him scrambling all over the fret board trying to figure out WTF is going on here. So he goes up and down, bends here, super bend there, till it clicks and he figures it out as he goes that he needs to play 1 step(2frets) lower to be « in key ». And thats the result, one of his finest!
@David-iv6je3 жыл бұрын
@@rumking1391 Not sure which part you are talking about. My favorite is the 3 part harmony solos, which I think of as "Set pieces" (the second starts at 16:50 here). They also have a fourth guitar echo the first phrase of the theme way up high. very intelligent composition, and something relatively new to DG with this degree of expression. (He was doing it in Shine On, but not as pronounced). I always knew he used DGCFAD (one step down) al tuning so he could play open string chord forms in Dmin instead of Emin. Didn't know if that affected any of his solos. Surely The Man knew he was in D and simply soloed two frets down? For a solo on upper frets it is elementary, and independent of tuning as long as the relative tuning of each string is the same.

Animals is more spare, dark and heavy than WYWH, DSotM or earlier albums. The Wall went even more spare, with less complex orchestration. The "Trial" stuff in The Wall also turns some rock fans off. Nice that you did "Pigs On the Wing" as the intro.. "Dogs" is the first chapter in this conceptual masterpiece. You must continue with " Pigs(Three Different Ones)", and then "Sheep ", closing with "Pigs On the Wing, Pt. 2" to complete the experience.. Thanks, guys..

Back in the early 80's, this song was a godsend for my 4am radio show when I was the only person in the station and needed to use the bathroom. 😆 It had the perfect sound for the wee hours of the morning, and the perfect length of time to let me go wee.

You really don't have to have read "Animal Farm" to listen to this album, to be honest. The only concepts from that book are the three archetypes of Dogs, Pigs and Sheep. Roger frames those ideas in his own way.

Agreed. I bought this CD in high school not knowing in a few months we would be reading Orwell's book. Because of Pink Floyd I was thoroughly engaged.

The songs "Raving and Drooling" and "You've Got to Be Crazy," two songs previously performed live and considered for the Wish You Were Here album, were reworked and appeared as "Sheep" and "Dogs," respectively, on the Animals album. Long ago, my friend let me borrow a bootleg CD of a Pink Floyd concert where they performed the original, non-reworked songs.

I didn’t give my due diligence to this album until about five years ago, and I’ve been a fan of Pink Floyd since they released Dark side of the Moon, once I took the deep dive I was hooked, and one of my favorite PF lyrics is from this song “You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to” people like that are truly Dogs

The first concert I ever went to was to see Pink Floyd on this tour when they played at Madison Square Garden on July 4, 1977. I was 12 and it blew my mind. The cloud of pot smoke might have clouded my judgement a little, but it was aurally and visually beyond belief. I still have the concert booklet they were selling inside the Garden, as well as my ticket. In a way it was like having a classic Ferrari Daytona for your first car when you turned 16: I didn’t know it at the time, but there wouldn’t be that many other concerts that I would go to that would be as great as that show was. I got to see Roger Waters on September 11, 2017 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and it was also mind blowing. My parents were about 30 feet from the stage when Jimi Hendrix played at Woodstock, and I would’ve loved to have seen that, thankfully it’s on film.

I saw them in the Boston Garden June 27,1977. It was also my first concert and I was 16. Blew my mind. I have been to some amazing concerts in my life since then but nothing any better than the Floyd. They did all of Animals and Wish You Were Here and Money and Us and Them for encores. How about the MSG show? I wore this record, cassette and CD out.
