Perfectly explains my extremely curious 1 year old BC. We have been working very hard with reactivity towards people and properly greeting people. He doesn't seem to understand people don't enjoy being barked at (with his tail wagging 90 miles per hour)

I just watched my very old DVD copy of Crate Games. We are expecting a new puppy in January. I have been scouring the internet for dog training help and it seems no one else is giving such precise information. We are very excited to get him started out in life using these lessons, and will probably sign up for Home School the Dog a bit later on. Thank you for your generosity with all the free information you post online.

As soon as my dogs come into our main living space they go straight on the scrounge. I've tried so many things. Your explanation of them being curious then reinforced for this makes perfect sense and so obvious now you say it 😂. Time to go back to basics and work on the dogs value for hot zone and me rather than getting frustrated at there 'Naughty' behaviour. Thank you for me and the dogs 😍

Great pod cast as usual! I love to listen, because I always learn something that I can use in my journey with my short poodle. The only reason he hasn't counter surfed is he is too short. The other day I saw him stand up on his back feet and walk to the counter to see what was on it. I will make a hot zone closed to the counter and then gradually move it away from the cabinet. (musical notes)I'm dreaming of a white poodle who doesn't beg when I'm cooking for Christmas(end of song). P.S. That would be a dog with a smarter trainer.

Another insightful video, Susan! I got a lot of information from this about what I need to be doing regarding IYC, kitchen floor and HZ! I made a mistake right off. my dog was searching the kitchen floor for crumbs. I took him by the collar to his HZ (should have let go sooner) then promptly reinforced the behavior by giving him a treat!🤪 Lesson learned! I’ll never repeat that error. Thank you once again for the clarity! Love the new space❤

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is so helpful! My Lab puppy turned a year old yesterday. Her curiosity got her getting up on surfaces months ago and grabbing whatever… rarely food, but anything she gets is reinforcing. Gloves, books, fabric, whatever! If only it were just food it would be a lot easier! She’s got a good IYC and RZ. Working on Hot zones… my kitchen is too small for dog beds. Definitely going to start working on lots of DOs. I think she’ll love all the DO reinforcement!

My sister-in-law calls it counterintelligence. It is common for all of our dogs to have all four feet on the ground, but the nose is up high in the air. They then run the circumference of the kitchen counters. They are a joy to train. It can be done. This is a good place for training.

I need to work with my new rescue to not bark incessantly and charge at the door when someone comes over. He’s friendly but too enthusiastic with visitors. This also happens when he sees other dogs in the park; he wants to charge at them to play. Since he’s a Dane, this can be a problem to say the least. But I’ve had him for less than a month and he’s coming along nicely with other things we’ve been working on. I’ll start applying these training methods with him and scan through your other videos too. I’ve been a subscriber for a while, love your training style and mindset.

I chopped up some fresh little cubes of my dog and puppy's favourite meat to prepare for a new training session in h360, and left the bowl on the kitchen bench. My dogs are only little - 7 kilos each. I went outside to get some training toys, and when I came back, all of the meat was gone! At first I thought it was my cat, but my cats don't eat that much, and certainly not that fast. It was then I realised, that my athletic older dog (she's five), had jumped up on to the cat table, leapt on to the stove, and walked across the counter to get to the food. She sat there looking at me licking her lips, I stood there looking at her with my jaw on the floor lol - oh man, I haven't done enough work with IYC! my puppy (15 months) is not food driven, so it's not an issue with him. Love the new space :) Also love the podcasts done in your house :)

There's a playlist of 'project togetherness' on here too (in case you haven't seen it). I had to work intensely on that when I got my puppy with my adopted adult dog. For sure you don't want them rehearsing fighting with each other, not even once (if it gets serious they could grow to hate each other, and that is not fun for anyone in the house). You are right, you need to put in the time so I am sure you have got this! It was an intense couple of months with my two but it really paid off and they are great now. Wishing you all the very best :)

I am trying to figure out how to do this for screeching with excitement in the car when we drive to the park. (Or if he sees something outside the car that looks like fun). Mine won’t stop barking. Drives me crazy barks at the TV, when people come in or leave.Walking him, if he sees another person walking their dog, delivery people tries to wiggle out of my arms. Barks like he’s going to bite or tear into them as soon as I let him go. Doesn’t harm anyone,has only ever bit me when he was a puppy. Very gental playing now. Even if he knows the people coming in he barks like he’s mean and aggressive, but he isn’t.

I am working on managing the barking in his crate at agility classes. Is moving his crate farther from other dogs part of managing the don't? I am reinforcing at home lying on his mat on raised dog bed and plan to put the mat in his crate at class. I reinforce him when he stops barking with a high value treat, but have to be very fast.
@bluiz77e14 күн бұрын
Oh no, I just had that, aha, oh no moment, when my girl, puts her paws up on bench, I do tell her off, and then I will ask a sit or down, and give a treat, so I believe I have been reinforcing this behavior, is that correct? I must just grab her collar and guide her to a bed? When she was a puppy around 3-8 months maybe , I did do some training in kit😢, such as collar grab, and few others, at the time it was the only room I could block us in so our other boy didn't distract so I assume this will take me a little longer now to change that behavior?

So, I have a unique situation. My 2 year old GSPxEnglish setter actually needs to put his feet up on things, independently of my cueing. Since sometimes it's any time for a dog, this can cause some problems. He's a search dog and if we are searching anything (building, cars, woods, water) , I need him to search high and low. I also won't be close enough to him in a lot of situations to keep cueing him to "check high". I'm in Recallers Alumni, but have yet to make it all the way through the games. It's hard to determine how much control I need to have since he has to work and make decisions in his job that are very independent from me. Any suggestions?

How would this look for barking at mealtimes? Moving the dog out of the kitchen isn't an issue- she understands to be outside the kitchen and sitting, but she sits behind the gate whining. How do you get them to understand not to vocalize? I don't give her the bowl 'til she's quiet, but I still get lots of barking and whining in the 5 minutes while I'm prepping the food. This is definitely an emotional issue of over excitement, but I don't want to kill her enthusiasm for food either. I'm not sure where to start.
