I hiked 60,000 miles over my American foxhounds life with him. These dogs do not get tired, cold, or sore..they just go. Best dog I ever had, I’ll never forget him. I still cry when I’m reminded of him. Rip duney

We rescued a foxhound pup. She was supposed to be a beagle mix but no beagle in this one. All foxhound. This is the most loving breed I’ve ever known. So loving and gentle.

My once-in-a-lifetime Dog was a Foxhound. I was lucky to enjoy a relationship with him. 17 years of companionship and love. His name was Manning. Old age finally got him. I was with him at the end. When my time comes, I hope to see him. I don't know how things work, I would just like to be with Manning again in Heaven. I loved him the first time I met him. He loved me. We both knew it immediately. It was love at first sight.

He was incredibly fast. Manning was the fastest beast I have ever seen. He was a great Dog. We still have pictures of him on our walls along with other family members that have passed away. I guess that's just the way it is. Love never dies. Manning is in my heart, and will remain there until my time comes. I hope to see him again. My late Parents both thought he was the coolest dog ever, and Manning loved them. I am throwing around the word "Love" loosely, but I mean it. I miss my Parents, and I miss my Dog.

Does your American Foxhound have an independent and stubborn nature that's common to all the other hounds? Let us know in the comments!

We have an American foxhound that’s a little over one and this is spot on. Exercise is huge. Training is also super important as they get very excited when company is around and may boy act appropriately in those situations without proper training.

I have an American fox hound. He's definitely a people dog. He's the most passive dog I've ever known, definitely not a gaurd dog. 😂😂 If we get robbed, he'll want the robbers to pet him.

Thank you for this video. We've been searching for what our "Beagle" was mixed with. *BINGO!* Those beautiful long legs and narrower snout sealed the deal. I'm guessing she was 1/4th American Fox Hound, maybe less. She was rescued from a horrible place at age 5-6 years and passed at 20-21 years. Rest in peace, our dear Lilly-Pie.

We thought we were getting a rescue Beagle from the SPCA and our Bryson is purebred American Foxhound. He is funny and has lots of personality but a lot of work. He’s 6 months old and very stubborn. We walk him 3-4x a day in 20-30 minute slots at a minimum. We did not plan for such a large and active dog. We love him and are still in training.

Omg this happened to me and my wife. I thought we picked up a beagle and he turned out to be a 100 pound foxhound. Biggest blessing was that I let him off leash at the very beginning when he was too afraid to leave my side. He would run full out, 20 feet in front of me, then turn and sprint back, over and over on the trails until he was tired out. I think this made him loyal and realIze when he hunted later on to follow his scent back to me. On leash walks feel like it takes a lifetime to do the trick with this bread, it also becomes a burdensome task for you. Depending on how loyal he is, my advice is to find some trails and let him loose. One hour in the woods and that dog will sleep most of the day, but even if he wakes up, he won’t tear the house up, or pace at night. We got lucky with duney, he always came back. Sometimes he came back with a deer head in his mouth, or a dead rat, but he came back. Best dog I ever had, and a best friend too. I will never forget him. Their noses are magical, you gotta let them use that sniffer or they will go crazy.

Something I’ve found that helps is making them think and tiring their brain out. They’re very smart and so can get bored more easily than other dogs. My girl refuses to eat unless her kibble is in a puzzle toy. The only time she’ll touch her bowl is when she’s physically exhausted, but that’s rare. Foxhounds were bred to run alongside horses when hunting, so they have energy to burn

I have owned 4 fox hounds all adoptees from fox hunting packs so 2 dogs that had been rejected from the pack after bring them in for new blood. And the other 2 were from a pack that retired. They are such sweet dogs they have the most loving demeanor. Hounds love a nice safe space to snooze. My hounds all took a little re training after living in kennels till they came home with me. Their brains are 90% nose and the nose goes love to get out and smell new things. I you live in a rural area they will wander and come back not thinking they just found the most lovely thing to roll in. Ranging for gut piles from a deer, cow poo, horse poo, deer poo or just good ol regular mud!

I have an american foxhound and she is right on trend with the "people dog" statement, but I had her in an apartment since she was a puppy and never had an issue (granted she is a rescue and may have trauma from previous owners disciplining her for baying).

My vet decided at this last appointment to inform me to stop calling my puppy a “beagle mix” because she was clearly a foxhound 😂 she certainly fits this. She came on board because I thought she would be good for our very lazy golden retriever mix brother who…needed a buddy. Not what we expected but she’s hilarious. It’s quite funny because she barks at people because they haven’t come close enough to pet her but then her brother is right beside her barking because he sees them close to the yard. I’m like guys 🤦♀️

Hi, great video! I adopted my first foxhound, Levi, in Colorado 4 years ago and recently lost him due to mast cell disease. He was 4.5 yrs when he went to doggy heaven. This breed is spectacular and I now know this is the breed for me! We were both very adventurous and active and I know that this breed is what I desire. They appear very difficult to find but I’ve read that they can be easily adopted in shelters in the Virginia states. Do you know if this is true? Do you have any tips on how to locate them? I am willing to travel to find a new foxy companion!

Any other foxhound families know how to deal with my girls constant need to “pet” people? She ends up punching people in the face, scratching faces, eyes and skin. She’s not being mean AT ALL. She’s being over affectionate which is why she lays between the toilet and my feet every time I use the bathroom. Lol. Super sweet and affectionate but needy to the point that I no longer have company over. Everyone loves her but she’s too much for an easy night of drinks and movies.

Does anyone know the difference between American foxhounds and treeing walker coonhounds. I cant tell if my dog is an American foxhound or TWC
@cdmac4028 Жыл бұрын
I know the bark is different.
@nathansheperd256228 күн бұрын
Treeing Walker will paw and climb up the tree and go on its high legs and bark when it finds a coon hence the name tree Walker fox hounds will not do this there colors are pretty much the same almost identical but their builds are different I think a tree Walker is more taller and skinnier and lankier while a foxhound is a lil bit shorter with broader shoulders stockier build and a thicker coat but I could be wrong

n Virginia…trapped foxes are dumped into Fenced in enclosures where dogs(foxhounds) are allowed to rip them apart alive. NONE make out alive:( They are being trained to kill small animals. Why? For money earned to rent the pen out to "train" the dogs to be killers and then used in betting competitions. My friend just had her Shih Tzu shaken to death by one of these foxhounds with a number 20 painted on it's body in front of her house. She lives in the middle of 30 acres and never had a problem letting her pet go outside.**** owns one of these pens. Ironically...a State Farm Agent...Clarksville VA and Chase City VA...."Like a good neighbor"...not! He allows a continuation of cruelty to wildlife on his personal property 7 days a week. What else can one call it except malicious and cruel...abusive. horrific with no good end To innocent wildlife animals? Wild foxes are baited and trapped into these fenced in enclosures ...they howl during the day to try and locate their mothers..fathers...and siblings.none are alive after being shredded apart by foxhounds being trained to kill small animals.
