Thanks for the jigsaw jigsaw review Karen! Great to see it completed! I think your jigsaw criticisms and jigsaw suggestions are totally fair. This is the first jigsaw I've ever designed and the joke of the jigsaw jigsaw was definitely a priority over the puzzle aspect, but it was only when I started trying to complete the jigsaw jigsaw myself that I saw how frustrating the design actually was to solve beyond the central recursive boxes. That said, in the year since I first made this I've had maybe a dozen people tell me that they, or their (now estranged?) friends and family have completed it :) I like the ideas of adding colour or a pattern to the box, they make a lot of sense, although tbh I do quite like the black and white aesthetic! As for the quality of the production itself, I really appreciate your insights. That has been quite hard to control from my end and has occasionally been disappointing on some units, but it's certainly something I want to improve with the next print run. Thanks for taking the time to make a video video about it!

Good for you for finishing Jigsaw’s jigsaw jigsaw puzzle. No way would I have finished the jigsaw jigsaw puzzle. It is my biggest jigsaw puzzle annoyance, when a jigsaw puzzle piece fits into a million different places within the jigsaw puzzle. I love your videos so much. I’ve done jigsaw puzzles for years, but since I found your channel a few months ago, you’ve inspired me to expand my jigsaw puzzle horizon. I’ve finally ventured away from 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles and have now done a 1500 piece and a few 2000 piece jigsaw puzzles. I love the challenge and I like that it’s a bit more of a project that takes a little longer to complete. Take care and please keep the videos coming!

fun fact: the image on this jigsaw follows a recursive pattern known as the "Droste effect", named after a Dutch cocoa company, Droste, that would use this type of repeating image on their tins! I have a few Droste tins and cups at home and it's fascinating to see the image on the tin repeat itself on the tin the person in the image is holding, repeat ad infinitum until the image becomes too small.

I would look at that jigsaw on the shelf at the store, say to myself "That's interesting" and keep walking to the next shelf of jigsaw puzzles to add to my jigsaw collection. I hate jigsaws where you can't tell if the jigsaw pieces are in the correct place in the jigsaw. But, I love your detailed reviews of all the jigsaw puzzles. Thanks and please keep up the good work!

this puzzle makes my mathy side of me happy. It reminds me of the concept of a mandelbrot sequence. Where the same repeats but smaller to create and infinite edge :) It's such a shame a lot of the black isn't actually black though. Or maybe a kindof Taylor series where the jigsaw in the jigsaw is the 'derivative' of the jigsaw box. lol

I wouldn’t even attempt to do this jigsaw jigsaw jigsaw jigsaw puzzle. I don’t mind a challenge in a puzzle if I love the image but I know for this one I would get the puzzle sorted and decide to bag it up right away to out be put back in the box. I absolutely adore jigsaw puzzles and I once did a jigsaw puzzle of someone putting together a jigsaw puzzle which was cool... but this takes jigsaw inception to a whole new jigsaw level. I think I would have completed this jigsaw of a jigsaw puzzle but only because I'm a completionist and really DNF anything. I'm not gonna pretend it wouldn't have taken me a year or more... but I would have persevered... that's what puzzle storage caddies are for, right? For those puzzles that need to go into timeout or are only done well in daylight. I kind of hope they'll consider doing more jigsaw puzzles because there's a lot of cool stuff in math that could create some really cool patterns for jigsaw puzzle images or even shapes! Imagine a jigsaw puzzle of tessellating geometric shapes and the jigsaw puzzle pieces are cut into tesselating shapes themselves! It would feel like one of those IQ quizzes where you're supposed to say the written word and not the color its written in or vice versa.

Came here from the Stand-up Maths video. I really liked this video; I honestly wouldn't have thought that watching someone solve a puzzle could be so entertaining :) I think it's fascinating how you sorted the pieces beforehand and were super methodical. When I solve a jigsaw puzzle, I always start out super chaotic and just randomly put stuff together at first. Only when I hit a bit of a dead end, I start solving it more methodical. Also, I kinda wanted to buy and solve this puzzle myself, but your review kinda put me off of it a bit, haha :)

Kind of jealous you finished this puzzle! My husband got it for me for Christmas last year and while the middle section was pretty easy/ fun to put together, the lack of different shapes and the fact they didn't all fit together well made me go crazy! I finally gave up when we couldn't get the boarder to work! We also have 4 black pieces that were different black! I thought I was crazy!

Omg! Definitely one of my pet peeves is having pieces that can fit anywhere in a puzzle (which, unfortunately, is very common in Brazil). That's why I stay way from puzzles with no distinguished information on its image. Great video!

Holy Smokes ! What a jigsaw puzzle of a jigsaw box . You keep finding the most unusual jigsaw puzzles. Could I do this jigsaw ? That’s a No. I’m not a Jigsaw Expert and get easily discouraged by difficult jigsaws. I like doing jigsaws and have been doing jigsaws for ……ahem…a long time , but this jigsaw looks too difficult for me. When I was a kid, I did jigsaws that were pictures of barns , lakes, mountains, goats , and other boring jigsaws , but when I was a kid, they didn’t have the selection in jigsaws as they do now . Now you can buy such an assortment of jigsaws. Colorful jigsaws, all one color jigsaws, jigsaws that are round, huge jigsaws, tiny jigsaws …. Great jigsaw video, as always. You always make me chuckle, Karen , when I watch your jigsaw puzzle videos. Ok, I used jigsaw 20 times . 😁

I'd eventually finish the jigsaw puzzle, but it'd take me a long time! I've done a couple similar Jigsaws that are very monochromatic and have finished those Jigsaw puzzles. There's a Haunted Mansion jigsaw puzzle that is 3 colors, green, black and grey, with huge sections of one color only. Took me a month, but I did finish the jigsaw puzzle!

Someone should make an actual recursive jigsaw puzzle, where the outer rows of pieces surround a smaller rectangle with a scaled-down set of the same pieces, then an even smaller rectangle with a scaled-down set of the same pieces, then... (Obviously they'd have to stop after a few iterations.)

Wow, who knew that the Jigsaw's Jigsaws jigsaw jigsaw puzzle would be so intense! That loose fit coupled with the large, single colour sections would drive me absolutely batty. On another topic, your current background reminds me that it's you I need to thank/blame for my Cloudberries obsession. I just finished their Crossroads jigsaw (a Christmas present from my jigsaw-addiction enabling family), and I think it was my favourite Cloudberries jigsaw I've done so far! If you haven't done that design yet, I can highly recommend it for all of the tiny, cute, colourful details (including teeny little sheep!). It's basically the jigsaw antidote to jigsaw jigsaw frustration.

Hey Karen, love the video! Nearly a year ago I was given the jigsaw jigsaw jigsaw as a birthday present - in fact, it was the one that Matt Parker sold on eBay - so it's a signed copy. Watching your video makes me feel a lot better about how long it's taking my wife and me! Getting your professional opinion on it being a bit wobbly in places makes me feel better, and I will confess to using screenshots of your video in a few places to try and get the inner frame done. Not finished yet, but nice to know about the rotation on the cut, and that it is *possible* to finish it!

I'm coming from Matt's youttube channel, nice to meet you! I have tried the "new york workers lunch" puzzle a while ago and finally give up. So for sure I know this one is also not a jigsaw for me. Well done by you and thank you for sharing your thoughts about the jigsaw. If you like these kind of jigsaw, I remember "Apfelmann im Wunderland" ("The Elusive Beauty of Fractals") from Spektrum in the late 90s. I haven't done it, but somehow it is on my todo list since then.

I appreciate all your attention to detail regarding jigsaw puzzles and the expectations you have about jigsaw puzzles. A jigsaw puzzle like this would really drive me crazy. Unfortunately once I start a jigsaw puzzle I have to finish the jigsaw puzzle no matter how much the jigsaw puzzle drives me crazy. So yes, I would have finished this jigsaw jigsaw puzzle from Jigsaw, but it would have taken me much much much longer than you.

As a (somewhat) avid jigsaw puzzler myself and a bit of a completionist, I definitely would have completed this jigsaw jigsaw puzzle. This was the first jigsaw puzzle video I've seen of yours coming from a math channel talking about the same jigsaw puzzle. I really appreciate your comments on the quality and practicality of this jigsaw puzzle, including why the jigsaw puzzle makers would have repeated a pattern (to reduce the size of their jigsaw). This jigsaw is the crossover between Matt Parkers Mathsgear and Karen jigsaws that I did not know I needed. Too bad the pattern makes it a Parker square of a jigsaw.

This Jigsaw puzzle seems to be harder than it looks. I used to do Jigsaw puzzles all the time but really haven't done a Jigsaw puzzle in about a decade. I'm glad I found your channel and am thinking about doing Jigsaw Puzzles again. I just got my mom a Mystery Jigsaw puzzle on Kickstarter (it just arrived right after Christmas). Actually, I got her all 3 Jigsaw puzzles that were available but only gave her one Jigsaw puzzle so far.
