I’ve got just over 194,000 on my 2007 530xi wagon and it’s running super smooth, no chain noise. I’m third owner, previous owner was super meticulous, changed oil every 7500 miles. First owner had vehicle serviced at dealer until 71,000 miles, no known history until 155,000. I plan to change the oil every 5000 due to higher mileage.

Just last week replaced timing chain(s) tensioner's, top & bottom pulleys, water pump & belt on my N47 with 110K onboard. One could be forgiven for thinking its a petrol engine, not cheap but seriously relieved its done & the difference in engine noise confirmed it very much needed doing.

203k miles or 326 km on my 2008 e91 n52. Change oil between 3-5k and just switched last week to 5w-40 liquid Molly and holy smokes. It quited right down and the lifter tick almost disappeared. Engine feels a lot smoother now. Thanks!

I know it’s not N52 But I have 2012 F10 with N55 engine and currently it has 315000 thousand miles , yes you read it correct 😎 I am the second owner and no issues whatsoever, car runs like new .. only thing I did was lots of preventative maintenance.. I change my oil every 3000 k might be overkill, but oil is cheap engines are not ! Lol And yes timing chain is original!

Chain went on my 730d M57 at 138K I purchased 6 years ago when it had 120K but service history not great. Since engine rebuild oil is changed every 5K-6K, Speedo shows 212K

Brilliant video, question if you get a chance to reply, I’ve got a 2017 B37 engine in a 1 series with 80k miles. I change the oil every 6k and use Mannol oil which meets the LL-03 standards that BMW set for the car, is this okay being a much, much cheaper alternative? And is 6,000 miles okay? Or should I make it 5,000?

Buy quality oil and filter... Do it yourself.. It will then cost you £60 or so.. Every 6000km for me.. And the mantra is - oil not too expensive, engine repairs much more so..

I changed my N20 chain at 95K because everybody scared me. The new and old chain were within 1mm length and the guides were perfect, with coloration. Same with the oil pump chain. I changed everything anyway, and now I figure it's good forever.

My rules of maintenance: 1. Change oil and all filters every 5-6k miles and no longer than 1 year between two services; 2. Usr only OEM/original parts, no Chinese or other cheap substitutes; 3. Do a general mechanical inspection of tbe vehicle once a year; 4. Make sure you do all preventative maintenance depending on the specific model of your car and its engine; 5. Maintain the car at a specialist for that particular car brand, as opposed to so-called "universal" mechanics

2011 F10 528i with 216,000 miles on my N52 engine here in California.. Always change the oil well ahead of schedule and the engine runs absolutely great!! I haven’t had a chance to install my new check valves but I’ve done everything else to this motor. Most importantly no Chinese parts😜😜😜 Starter motor was replaced with OEM part at 153k miles, valve cover was replaced at 189k miles, coolant hoses and drive belt replaced preemptively at 199k miles. Plugs and Ignition coils changed every 30k miles, Oil changed every 6-7k miles with Mobile 1 Full Synthetic.

Hey Dr. Dean, yet another very helpful and insightful video. I'm sticking with my intention of owning an N52 down the road (probably a late model E83). For now I'm just soaking in all this goodness. Luckily a good deal of the knowledge you impart here translates over to my '09 N54 E82 (coupe), currently with ~84K miles on the odo; almost 50K of which are my own. I've kept it rigorously maintained all these years, especially with oil changes either annually, or every 5K - 7.5K miles. I've got absolutely no errors on scanning and the engine sounds good as new. Relating to the timing chain, I'm not so much worried about the chain itself so much as I'm very worried about them damn plastic chain guides. Despite one's best efforts, won't the guides need to be replaced, at least preventatively, especially after 14+ years?
