My 18-yr-old power window was starting to fail. Luckily, I had just seen your video the day before. Instead of tearing the door apart, I slammed the door twice and added some silicone. At first I thought I had broken it because it started squealing like a stuck pig! But after about 10 trips up and down, it worked and sounded just like new. Thank you!!

@@salvadorcastaneda3750 I don’t think brand matters all that much. Any brand spray is better than no spray. You can clean it with a folded up rag, kind of like when you make a pointy thing from TP when you’re trying to clean your nose 😂 and slide it up and down in there. Or use something that fits in the gap easily like a screwdriver, fold towel over tip and clean that way.

As an electro mechanical engineer I cant confirm this is a good idea. The theory is ( and from my testing ) that when you apply grease to anything it attracts dust dirt grime to stick. Eventually causing more wear over time then leaving it dry. Rant over

Well beam me up. Just seen this Scotty. Good advice. Fitted a new Driver's Door Window Regulator to my MG6 this week. I did precisely that to the side runner channels. First I cleaned them of all the filth and road crud which builds up in those channels which does grip the Glass more firmly. Thus stressing the poor Motor and the lifting mechanism components. Also whilst doing the job, I completely removed the Window Glass. The amount of filth accumulated on the glass UNSEEN below the lower window frame was epic. Now, my window glass runs smooth as silk silently up and down. Deep Joy and now operates like a new and not a ten year old car.

Finally my shop rigged it up some how so I could roll it down past 2 inches without losing it in the door. Manual is definitely better in that sense, but not 100% fail proof :)

What about the rubber seals that run horizontal along bottom of window? My car is 11 years old and all four windows, the seals appear to have dry rot and no longer seal anything. More like sags than seals. If it's something simple enough I can replace on my own, I'm all for it. Just unsure if it requires disassembly of the door or some complex procedure. It's a 2010 Corolla, if it makes much difference. Hasn't been run hard, but years of sitting in hot, direct sun took its toll on those parts.

Hi Scotty-- I recently found your channel and I can't get over how much I enjoy watching and learning from you-- I own at 1999 4runner (4x2) with 185,000 miles!! Pretty good eh? I had been considering a newer model, or possibly different SUV- but after watching you- I realized what I already knew (I love my 99 4runner!) My car and I are in CA so we haven't had to deal with rust or inclement conditions. So here's my question (to anyone who'd like to weigh-in)-- the SUV's A/C has not worked for 5 years. For a while I just lived with it, but I don't know if I can do another summer without it! Would or DOES Toyota repair A/C on older model cars? Is it even worth doing? THANK YOU again for being so fun to watch and SO informative.

Hi Scotty, maybe you or someone reading can answer this. I used the bike lube you recommended in my car door locks, which were becoming jammed up (a 2000 Toyota Camry). The lube helped but after a few weeks they were jamming again, making it hard to turn the key/enter/remove it. I sprayed more of the bike lube and now the driver's door key hole is jammed to where I can almost never unlock the car with it and have to unlock it from the passenger side, which itself is a little jammed up. I can lock it from the driver's door but that jams and takes a few tries sometimes as well. How can I fix this? I live in Los Angeles if the dry and hot climate makes any difference.
