Hey Greg...Since the logs are full of beetles I wouldn't tend to store the cut wood either IN or TOO NEAR the house.

For the woodshed i would choose one of the „highest“ points of your property where the moisture/water always stays away of the wood, where good ventilation is possible and where the sun can dry it.

get a box blade for road grading. it's what I use on our gravel road. it'll scrape off the high spots and fill in the low spots.

Just dropping a line to say I love the growth you two have achieved! Both on the homestead and the growth of your channel. I remember commenting not too long ago about Greg doing construction work in his sandals back when this channel was tiny. I liked you guys from the beginning and knew you would do well! Keep on truckin'!

I noticed you used the ABS pipe for vents. With a metal roof and a lot of frozen snow slipping when it starts thawing it will snap those off. I had to make some diverters after mine snapped off. 😏🙂

I don’t know if you read comments from older videos but if you do research a timber hitch. Easy to tie and easy to undo, it’s intended for this kind of work.

Operating saw with one hand is not the best idea. Also on your big saw i would run a much shorter bar unless you have giant trees. You will have lots more power with a shorter bar and will be easier to handle! Stay safe!

To fix the road I suggest to fill it with dirt and compact it firmly. Then reclaim old carpets and set them on the road. Once done, pour your gravel on the carpets and compact it down. This way, the mud wont go anywhere and your gravel wont sink.

would you like some advice?. when u get your saw pinched like that u can do two things. ur first option witch is to pop a wedge in their and open your cut up. or ur second option is to do what's known as a relief cut witch is to put a second cut beside ur first one witch then releases the compression in the log and should free up ur saw

Great work. I would build the wood shed where the blue tarp is. You also need something nearer the house , then that area gets filled daily . Gosh thinking of winter… yup needs doing , even in the UK one does , especially with the rise of gas! Hope to get extra wood this year, Ihave plenty of soft wood for lighting with . Let’s enjoy the warmth from the sun and longer days now….

I think you coulf check out something called a "log hauling arc" they sell them online or you can make your own I saw them before but didnt know what they were called in your case where you need to haul fallen trees in ur forrest fairly easily with a tractor or atv pretty useful looking tool. N yes I know ur on a budget but its a good idea to check this out as in "work smarter not harder". As well as a "log lifter made from a farm jack" oh ya pretty slick tool I think you will agree and the light will go off in your head? as in we should HAVE DONE THIS A LONG TIME AGO. Its perfect when your working by yourself in difficult situations come up.

First.......my wife and I love your channel. Never miss an episode. I have to think with the rain you get this time of year that at least augmenting your water supply from water catchment would help. Your RO removes 99.996% of anything foreign in your water, it should not be a problem catching the water off your roof or at least off your barn for your animals. I get that summer is super dry and it won't do anything for you that time of year but I think you would surprised how much you get off your building roofs. Any chance of finding any IBC totes to store water? Just a thought.

You could build your woodshed far enough away from the house so when it snows it's ten times harder to get your wood and you'll have something to complain about for all of winter, and won't that just be so special. Or you could build much closer and not have to walk through as much snow to get you logs. I figure the less you have to complain about the better. Right?

I would suggest proper saw usage. I was cringing because I was afraid of the kickback you could receive. Start with the blade on top closer to the saw and go down. Never the tip with one hand. The hand on top will help not having kick back in your face. My grandfather and uncles and father worked Forestry. My husband and sons and DIL are foresters.

@jdram58
@jdram58 Жыл бұрын
Well a "log hauling arc" would be perfect fore cutting in manageable size n moving the logs to where you need them fairly cleanly this job is what they are designed for either so you can mill them or cut them for firewood or whatever. You can buy them or build your own n after you see them how simple they are you may wonder at how slick they. I guess Im kind of a tool guy for the little guy always trying to think of easier ways to accomplish difficult tasks that can seem daunting sometimes. I been there as a truck driver wondering how the hell am I gonna unload large heavy objects in the middle of no where for companies like menards or home depot in the oil fields of North Dakota they actually make a powered stair climbing cart for moving appliances but by the time I learned about it I just quit my job as their delivery driver.
