You should build a multiple open ended shed for your tractors and equipment. It won't keep them warm, but it will keep the snow and rain off of them. Also protection from the sun when not using them.

Good day to you all, the barn extension looks awesome, but to be honest you really need to think about putting some water resistant covering eg 52”-58” high because a code brown can get that high. Also unless you protect the exposed wood it can and will need to be replaced even the baseplate for the wall. I only know this from working on a dairy farm. Also you could do with at least using a latex based paint in the pig run because pig manure can be rot the wood eg that’s why most pig farmers use wood shavings as a base also the bacteria in pig manure is great at breaking down carbon (eg wood) & killing of harmful bacteria.

I know its already been mentioned but hopefully one day it will be in the budget to maybe build pole barn with sides on it at least and since its going to be for equipment and everything from the biggest tractor to the compactor you dont need to pour concrete it would be better to just put down large stone gravel. With the opening being in the middle, I thought it does not give the cows much of an area to shelter in if the wind is blowing from the door direction.

Watching you work on the barn reminds me of the different projects we worked on as a family… one time around 10 of us worked together to build a deck for our new house.. we used a red wax pencil (carpenter’s pencil) to mark where to cut the wood and where the rails were to go. We called it the family “Deck Raising “ 😂🇨🇦🫶🏼

Al, I see another building in your future. A shelter for your rolling equipment to keep them from the windchill and snow and rain and also for maintenance in the better weather. What do think? Your weather is the same as ours here in Ontario

Windchill temperatures don't affect machines. Only us humans with pores on our skin get affected by windchill. It's the evaporation of water off our skin that causes the "bite" of the wind. That's why you have to cover all your skin to prevent the windchill from hurting you. Have a great rest of your week!

I'm in Florida, but I've been curious to know what the internal temperature of your compost pile is when it is covered with snow now that you've had deeper snow fall. Does the cold stop all the bacteria/fungal breakdown?
