17 months now. Holy cow, i dont know why but i cant even imagine it. I saw 18months and i thought "no she isnt, she's like 10 months old, right?" how the heck is my sense of time so crazy?! I knew she was born last year but this year has gone by so fast, it feels like it's march still and Tilly's first babies were born in like june or something!

Al, I'm so glad you weren't hurt when that piece of wood flew at you, you need to think about wearing more protection on your face. It's the mom in me, but after seeing that, it is a must!

LOL I was going to recommend Blue Cactus Dairy and I see someone already did. I love watching Crystal from the Cactus Ranch... she is amazing as well as her husband and her lovely kids... but Crystal knows a lot about goats and has been showing them in shows and breeding them and caring for them for years. She can help you out for sure. Just reach out to her... one thing I learned from Crystal from Blue Cactus Ranch is that if a female does not get pregnant she is going to require a more aggressive male to actually get her pregnant??

A bonus with Crystal's kids is that her does (and buck's bloodlines) are selected for udder and teat size and attachment, and most of them have milk stars already... and while Al does not show or test his stock, such items still can translate to easier milking and higher yield.

@jtdamomma4 жыл бұрын
@Lumnah Acres You might want to keep the doe and buck together for 21-30 days, so there's a better chance of breeding, since they'll go into heat more than once, and her heat only lasts 3 days. Once she acts like she no longer likes him, chances are, she's bred. You can also get some powder paint that livestock owners use. You spray about a 2" spot on her rump, and if it smears, that means the buck mounted her. I hope it helps!

Funny, as I yell to the wife all excited I’m saying” babies honey, the babies are on their way yaaaaaay!” My younger son (23) looks at the wife and says “really mom, aren’t you like 51 already? You’ll be 69 to 70 when that baby graduates high school! Wow did you guys plan on this?!” Meanwhile the wife and I are turning purple trying not to laugh! Hey Al, where is the first aid kit going to go? Wouldn't a Goat Journal be helpful along with ear tags or tattoos so you can keep it all straight (less confusing)? It's easy now with just a few pregnant but later it can get muddled. So if you choose to register or show them you will have the records.

If I understand what you were saying, Caleb is Willows buck and Zeke is Buttercups buck. Which says both are able to impregnate. If that's the case I would move Blossom back over in the front barn with the bucks and see if they bring her into heat. Then, you can chose who you want to be the buck. That way your spacing out birthing over the season and milk production will be more constant. Because after Blossom gets bred you will have Hope following her. More likely than not you will get some males this season and you may be able to trade one of the bucks for another buck to add another blood line to the herd. I would not castrate any right away until you know what your future breeding plan is.

A face shield is overkill for table saw work. I say this as a professional woodworker of 25+ years. What happened there was not that common and only as a result of working with knotty pine. A riving knife on the saw would be of more benefit and should be installed.
