Check the ground strap on the frame in the driver fender well had to replace harness on a 6.7 Cummins that blew a tcase and obliterated the trans tcase drive shafts and the wiring harness it ended up being 22 feet from the fuse box to the ecm on the side of the motor all the way back to the secondary fuel filter but I had the same issue and it was the ground that was loose since it’s tied into the ecm every time you hit a bump or decelerate and it move it cut intermittence and trips everything out and kills the truck

15:54 That's what my mechanic did when he replaced my rack and pinon. Then he refused to pay to get it fixed at the dealer after I already gave him $2k for the rack and pinon and other maintenance items. The dealer said some mechanics take the steering wheel off after replacing the rack and pinion because it's easier to do the alignment but of course he denies doing that. I couldn't justify putting another $700 into the car to fix the clock spring after already dropping $2k on a 16 year old car with 140k miles. The trans was also starting to slip on cold mornings so it was time. Ended up getting a 2017 Camry CPO last month to replace it.

Talking about fuses, check the mega fuse, its not in the fuse box. It is also on the firewall it will be a small black box thats just the cover it just pops on and off. If its still good you can easily clear up the contacts with sand paper. Here's a tip for the steering wheel that you will eventually replace, use a marker and make a line on the shaft and in the steering wheel.

For surre change the cabin filter. Otherwise any dust trapped in it will blow back through the truck. Its right where the glove box came out. Cheap and easy to do and will keep your ac and heat smelling fresh and not blowing dirt and dust and debris around the clean interior

If you do use aerosol vinyl paint make sure you do your prep right. Did the interior of my s10 11 years ago with a can or 2 and the doors have chipped out pretty bad because I didn't clean them properly, just wiped them down with a rag and some water. Other than that it's been tits on the non contact surfaces and I've seen good results with other people

Should look into Cerakote for a durable long lasting finish for future projects. Its used on firearms, automotive, instruments, watches, aerospace. Just about anything that can fit into a oven and survive 150°F (minimum) for 2 hours can take Cerakote . They even make high temp Cerakote for militarty full auto rated suppressors capable of withstanding 2000°F that been used on engine blocks, turbos you name it

Definitely give the vinyl paint a try. I was skeptical before I first used it as well but I was shocked at how well it works. I recommend VHT, Colorbond, and Duplicolor. Colorbond makes OEM colors but since you're doing black then that might not matter. My OBS Fords door panels were in perfect shape physically (no cracks, scratches, etc.) but had some fading/discoloration and I got Colorbonds matching Ford Light Graphite paint and it turned out great. They don't even look like they were painted, they just look like they're brand new.

I don't remember if you did or not.

Every time I tell someone I'm gonna pull a dash they all say how much of a PITA it's gonna be, it's gonna rattle after I'm done, panels aren't going fit right, it will never be the same, etc. Yet I have pulled many dashboards all the way to the firewall to do A/C evaporator, or the heater core. I even pulled the dash out on my car to do a complete wire harness swap. It's a big project but a piece of cake IMO.

"I see" said the blind man, who picked up his hammer and saw. Check your alternator too (for the power issue). I replaced my alternator and battery and I was still having power issues. 3 different shops were stumped. I ended up finding a burnt winding in the "new" alternator. If I figure it correctly the winding being burnt actually caused it to output AC current, ripple, and that caused chaos to the electronics. Changed alternator and it hasn't happened again since. It left its mark though. My radio screen only has flickering back light so nav, bluetooth, and backup camera don't work and I have to control my radio with the steering wheel. It's a 2014 All Terrain Sierra with the bose system so it has the bigger screen and IO6 hmi module, making it more expensive and difficult to find parts. Unless I want to drop a few grand at the stealership.

Dan don't apologize, or feel bad for wanting to go the extra mile by taking the dash out. You gotta dash your t's and dot your i's, if that means removing a dash and cleaning everything by all means go and do it. After all that work it should help keep some peace of mind knowing its clean and its been gone over to check for anything wrong. just like removing the fuse box and cleaning all the contacts replacing all the fuses and relays. do it and get it out of the way so it isn't a problem for future dan. if you plan on doing a whole black suede headliner with the lights again. maybe try flocking those pieces of the dash, I've heard some bad things about those vinyl paints for dashboards, like peeling and cracking. If you plan on buying a black version if the one solution dont work its always worth trying a DIY mod to see if you like it before going balls deep into new parts. worst case you list the old stuff you messed up on craigslist and some dude might want that for their project truck never know.
