Only issues I've experienced in these is they don't know the difference in trailer heights and only lock onto a select height

If there is no tractor hooked up a jack stand should be placed under the front of the trailer.

Correct, however in the event of trailer upending or landing gear failure, an individual could be in harms way. Sort of how one might opt for a gladlock over a kingpin lock

We use a forklift to hold it down with a fabricated piece of equpiment a local fabrication shop built for us. All it is is two thick pieces of metal the forks slide into with a flat spot at the end for the trailer connection.

Dok Locks can be lowered manually in an emergency/loss of power. The engineering of the hook keeps the truck locked up- not power.
