It wasn’t always multi-platinum sales and stadium gigs for Dokken. There was a first-phase and there were early days, and it is those bold first steps to stardom which are celebrated comprehensively on Dokken’s The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 album, out on August 28th 2020 through Silver Lining Music.
Featuring spectacular sleeve art by renowned US artist Tokyo Hiro (Motörhead, Motley Crüe), The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 show the crackle and craft of a hungry young Don Dokken as he embarked upon a journey which started in Southern California and Northern Germany. It is a trek which is testimony to the sheer endeavor and perseverance Don Dokken showed in those few years between 1978 and 1981, starting from when he spent time at a guitar store called Drake’s Music, owned by Drake Levin in Manhattan Beach, California.
A fair selection of the treasure on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are from these early European days. “Felony” carries a thuggish fuzz-coated riff think early Van Halen in really greasy embroidered denims while “Day After Day” showed that Don could pen a radio-slaying ballad.
The writing and creation of The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are further tribute to enduring early days of struggle in both Germany and LA., Don would return to LA for a spell after those brief European gigs, and he worked with Croucier on material, including perhaps the truest view of Dokken’s then-future “Hit and Run”, which incredibly did not end up on the eventual Breaking The Chains release. From the sunbaked SoCal hook of “Step Into The Light” to the furious, fledgling, late-Sunset Strip sound of “Back In The Streets,” The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 shows Don in his unfettered early days of balls-out attitude, qualities doubtless forged in the sheer nature of the adventures undertaken in writing, recording and deciding Europe was the place to keep cutting his teeth.
The Lost Songs: 1979-1981 not only shares that magic with the fans, it gives them the final, vital and undeniably missing (until now) early album in the Dokken collection.

OMF'G! I CAN HELP YOU DON! !!!!!! HOLEY CRAP MAN! I had neck surgery in 2014 . c5/6 right and c 6/7 right . i was DOKKENS BIGGEST FAN ! ive played guitar since 1979 and whe the first album w George came out , i resonated wit it. can play all of it.or i could once . my neck was seriously bad and the pain in my hands and arm and shoulder were unbearable. (30 years of hard labor)i never took pain meds untill it got so bad i thought of ending it. even then only gabapentin was the only effective thing on that nerve pain .i was ignorant of what im gonna tell you about then. i ended up needing 2 surgeries to get any relief. it came with it's own consequences. 6 years after surgery and i found Moringa! omg it changed my fuckin whole life! .i grow trees of it in my yard now and consume it everyday. i gave up on riding my custom suzuki i built myself and couldnt play " MR SCARY " ANYMORE .I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER PLAY OR RIDE AGAIN ! much less fix a meal or work on bikes /cars / boats or any other number of tiny tasks we all take for granted till your stuff doesn't work anymore. it's been 2 1/2 years now since i started using Moringa and still have some issues but am riding again and am playing Dokken songs again as well as stuff i wrote. i wrote an entire album worth of cool stuff before i got hurt then gave up finishing the recording .still have rough drafts on old tascam. i think ill revisit that and send you some of my music. look up Moringa man ! im telling you it will improve your problems. i had serious neuropathy and couldn't even hold a coffe cup or write. it's all back and my nice hand writing too. it also cleared up a serious skin infection that i saw dr's for over 8 months with nothing but bad results it got worse. i stared using the liquid extract on the skin infection and it is COMPLETELY GONE ! .i was on 5 different antibiotics from med dr and none worked and all had terrible side effects .i just can't say enough about how this simple unregulated plant had given me my life back! please look it up my freind .it's cheap and easy to get and easy to grow if your not in snowy territory .im in Tampa Florida . they grow perfect here with no help from me.if you just want to buy the powder , easy to get .it's very inexpensive but i prefer to grow my own. i started on powder i bought at a local farmers market. Good luck my old friend ! i grew up on your music and im 49 years old now . hate to see you hurtin , especially since i know the cure. or atleast something to help . i still have issues on my left and occaisional numbness but im not doing any more drs or surgery. this was a god sent gift to me .

I am so sorry Don and I am in the same boat my right hand is paralyzed as well and I'm right-handed mine was due to being shot I got shot at point-blank range with a 38 caliber with hollow points so now I have to do everything with my left hand but I want you to know I've been a big fan of your music since the early eighties.
