This video is from 2002 when Dokken played in Budapest, Hungary in E-Klub (currently named Diesel Club). John Norum's guitar playing was amazing as always.

Norum is a beast! Very clean and accurate playing, every note is clearly distinguishable, great vibrato, and although he follows Lynch's melodies it's very much his own style shining through. The band is very tight as well.

to those who dont know who norum is, actually he never cloned lynch at all. that's why his solos where similar but different, his own way. Norum had and ( even more today) has his own style, which is what actually makes him well respected in the guitar world.
@CarloGuitardello5 жыл бұрын
Actually he copied a lot the style of Michael Schenker and Gary Moore.

The great john norum! He was a member of Dons solo band that released up from the ashes. The combination of norum and guitarist billy white (with additional guitar from don) made a formidable pair

This song is a beast! One of the best Dokken tunes, but over-looked. Great rhythm, lyrics, melody, and kickin' solo!

The band sounds tight as hell, but Don Dokken seems to have lost his voice. This lineup featuring John Norum ( guitars ), Barry Sparks ( bass ) and Mick Brown ( drums ) was awesome. Great guitar solo by Norum.

I saw Norum on the tour supporting the Don Dokken "up from the Ashes" solo album. Norum was outstanding and the other guitarist was good also Great show.

Fantastically well played by John Norum, and wonderful to watch too. It's much better than the Reb Beach version and indeed than the later Lynch versions, which are weak, too thin and quite silly, in that the solos go nowhere, do nothing interesting and waffle on.

Norum is a package. Phenomenal player

not even someone as good as John Norum can play with the same soul as GL. George is the master. He's really up the catagory of Eddie, Page, Angus etc.

+Bobby Wolfe are you sure ?? , I've watched severals Dokken's kiss of death Live version with G.L and He can't or maybe He doesn't want to play like in the album. In the other hand this version is much more tasteful playing , I mean that vibrato of John is way better than the G.L. anyway in music , colours .
@BAJARACER43X7 жыл бұрын
over all playing of J N is better than G L

Lynch is an amazing guitarist, a phenomenon even. But I actually think Norum outplayed him here. His vibrato is much better, and he has more controle over things compared to Lynch.
@kingofdragontown96805 жыл бұрын
I love him, but George can't replicate any of his solos live. However, Billy White, John Norum, Jon Levin can nail those solos perfectly. Listen to In My Dreams with George Lynch and then Billy White and tell which one sou ds more like the record.

@@MichaelHolmgaard I have a hard time admitting it, because I am a huge fan of 80's Lynch, but you are right. Norum's performance here is phenomenal. That lead is played with total conviction.

I play the guitar myself, and John Norum is one of the best guitarists ever. He has inspired me a long time and still does. He can do anything on a guitar,but his best feature is his touch whsh is unique. The only guitaris I can think of matching him was Gary Moore
@MrClassicmetal7 жыл бұрын
Moore was one of his marjor influences. Along with Michael Schenker.

Don Dokken has always been one of my favorite lead singers but lately he's gotten lazy in his singing. He don't even try to hit the high notes anymore. I'm really disappointed in his performance these days. I wonder if that's why George Lynch and him had a falling out. George was giving it his all and Don acts as if he has lost his passion for being a great singer? I'd tell it to his face too. I saw a video with Don and Mick and Don's attitude sucked. I've been a Dokken fanatic since Tooth and Nail. Who knows. I do agree that John Norum has always been awesome!

This guy who is the " fill in for Don's version is playing everything pretty much note for note and it sounds great thru a Les Paul and what a lot of people don't know is George Lynch is a strat player but loves Les pauls ! a guitar whch is made from Mahogony is is clearly " superior to any other no matter what ! there is the Maple top wich gives a " bite " Also but the Les Paul will always be king and its " clones ! Listen to that " tone and resonance " and amazing ! Mahogony , the " king of guitar woods" !
