This disc is an absolute work of art. Everybody is at their very top. The musicanship is amazing and the songs are well-written, crafted and arranged. This record should have got a lot more recognition.

The same thing with Lynch Mob’s Wicked Sensation, which was released 2 days after Don’s Up from the Ashes. MTV played their videos, but I don’t believe they were in heavy rotation, which they should have been. Both albums are great, and it’s a travesty they didn’t receive much record company support. . Of course, only a few months later record companies decided to abandon this genre, and instead shove Nirvana and Pearl Jam down our throats.

Mick brown retired from drumming because he had arthritis to the point of where if he played drums he would feel like he was stabbed In all of his joints for a week. George did some shows with Don last year. Jeff is committed to working with foreigner. All the guys have basically moved on. Don still makes music but with a completely different lineup now. You should check out their album heaven comes down. One of the most kickass 80s rock albums to come out in years. Sounds like it could’ve came out in 90-91 and been a huge success.

I heard this tour live (Syracuse) and met Don and Mikkey. Don's voice was never better and he was very dedicated to this album. Sadly, it never got promoted correctly (for a number of reasons) and reached the success it should have. Don signed some photos I had of him racing cars at Lime Rock Park (CT) for a celebrity event. It was a very powerful night. The band sounded superb. I used to play the album all the way through for at least a year after it came out.

Don doesn’t possess the prototypical “metal” voice like Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, Klaus Meine, Rob Halford or Geoff Tate. Yet Dokken’s songs have always had a real accessibility in large part because of his singing. I have long felt that Don Dokken has been under appreciated when great metal vocalists are discussed. There is a real warmth to his voice, and a real expressiveness to his singing. His phrasing is supreme. Dokken was the perfect band for its time. Don’s impassioned vocal performances, George Lynch’s muscular riffs and blistering leads, Jeff Pilson’s pounding bass line and outstanding backing vocals, and “Wild” Mick Brown’s driving drums serving as the beating heart of the band.

I think this album is scientific evidence that proves that Dokken is Don Dokken. The classic lineup is still tops but it's more for emotional reasons. Don is the driving force in songs like this that are unmistakingly Dokken and yet everybody is MIA except Don. And nothing suffers. Nobody and nothing is missed.
@lrn_news91719 жыл бұрын
Why doesn't anybody consider the fact that Dokken had success with Lynch's playing style Ava riffs and after the breakup he simply knew he had to create a similar sound, why else would the guitarists try to copy Lynch's style? Lol
@spartansquid59314 жыл бұрын
@@lrn_news9171 Because that style is Don's style, not Lynch's, why else would George not play like he did in Dokken the moment he is no longer part of Dokken, but Dokken's guitar players consistently sound somewhat like Lynch. That hard yet melodic drive is just the sound that Don likes, and wants in his music.
@Explorer7663 жыл бұрын
@@lrn_news9171 Not only did Don solely write Into the Fire, George hates that song. Try to fit that fact into your hypothesis. Forget about leads that’s George of course. Don is the guy writing the riffs in Dokken that everybody thinks is Lynch. This is why Lynch Mob and all of George’s non-Dokken material has no Dokken sounding riffs. It was Don!
@lrn_news91713 жыл бұрын
@@Explorer766 Oh sure, guess wrote Dream Warriors? One of the most Dokken sounding songs ever, their biggest hit single. Lynch and Pilsen. Lynch wrote most of the riffs in Dokken, he had a very distinct style of writing riffs and it's clearly mostly him.
