Today we take a look at a simple, easy to assemble, budget friendly medical kit for the home. The idea for this video came from the Patriot Nurse series on KZbin. Feel free in the comments to share any additional items that you keep in your own home medical kit!

I would still throw in a few bandages... but also the "anti-itch" is more of a Benadryl cream. It is more useful in an allergic reaction but it is medicated so use with caution. Hydrocortisone works a little quicker, but wears off quicker, but you can apply it more often without issues. So I use each one in different situations, just fyi.

This is true! I also added an inexpensive tube of anti itch (hydrocortizone?} just in case.

Yeah, it does run out quite a bit at those stores. I made the video you watched a few years ago and I need to replace those items I used and are out dated.

I like the idea of a carry bag. When I was a Scout leader, we taught the kids how to make a basic first aid kit as part of their first aid badge along with the Red Cross teaching the B A T Basic Aid Training. With the younger kids it was just bandaids and a few alcohol swabs but the older kids were allow to have the square 2 in pads and 4 in pads as well as wrap bandage and tape; plus a triangle bandage with two to three large safety pins; with the band aids with antibiotics already on them; alcohol swabs and cotton balls; another Scout leader donated little bars of soap and washcloths for each Scout kit and one pair of gloves. Everything in their kits fit inside of a large peanut butter jars. My own Boy Scout and Girl Scout troop used the Kool aid canisters with the measuring lids that kept everything together. At Girl Scout day camp our Brownies used pill bottles to hold a few band aids and alcohol swaps. Today as a substitute teacher, I carry a small kit with band aids but send students to the school nurse for ice packs and other more serious injuries with an incident report of what happen that caused the injury. Great video.

Ameeli Pineda That is a good point, I usually keep a baggie of various sizes in there. I don't buy bandages at Dollar tree so that may be why I didn't put them in this video.

@@travisp11 As a former Fire Dept. Medic, I would also like to suggest you buy a slightly larger box, and have a section reserved for any PRESCRIPTION Meds your family may be using. With th exception of the Bandaids as Pineda pointed out, for a basic boo boo kit, you did an EXCELLENT JOB!

Peroxide is very beneficial especially for a puncture wound. ** Always dilute peroxide before putting it on a wound. It will damage (kill) the cells around the edges and they won’t be able to form a scab which impedes the healing time if you use it straight. You know how the skin turns bright white? That’s going to be dead tissue unable to heal. Always dilute peroxide.
