Hey friends! I haven't done a Dollar Tree video in a while and I wanted to do something that would be fun for me. I always love a homemade pasta, so I decided to do pasta, meatballs, and sauce from Dollar Tree ingredients!
The Dollar Tree isn't always the best value compared to places like Walmart or Aldi, but these videos are more about accessibility, food access, and getting creative with a limited grocery selection.

I love how down to earth and resourceful you are. Truth be told, I mostly watch your videos to relax, but I'm going to give this recipe a try! I truly believe our country (and world) is heading towards some really challenging times and we all need to learn how to stretch our dollars and food items. You are going to help soften the blow for many people, including me. Thanks, Lisa Dawn!

You are a breath of fresh air in so many ways! 1) You are down-to-earth and approachable while not pandering. Shopping for groceries at Dollar Tree is not a badge of shame. 2) You season your food appropriately! Omg! Thank you! 😭 3) You actually make homemade meals out of the products. I have not seen that before, especially pasta (What?!! That’s crazy awesome!). 4) You have some great cooking advice and tips. It’s neat to learn something new. I found you while watching stuff on someone else’s YT account. Rushed over to my account to Like and Subscribe. Looking forward to watching the rest of your work. Thank you.

My cooking hack for you! Here's a tip for you Lisa. Try this the next time you make home made pasta. Instead of putting sugar in the tomato sauce to cut the acidity, try just a pinch of BAKING SODA. That will cut the acid and bring out the natural sweetness of the tomatoes. I swear by this. Just a pinch, not too much, maybe an 8th of a teaspoon. Love your videos!

Thank you for your efforts. Never let the "nay sayers" get to you. I've witnesses people buying pre-sliced peppers and onions at the grocery store for FAR more than $1.25 and not getting much more volume. Yes, fresh is better, BUT, sometimes the budget dictates otherwise and even fresh, 3 peppers and and onion is going to cost more than the $1.25. Naturally one would get more and be able to prep and freeze it but some weeks, the $ just isn't there. I think it's great that you offer alternatives/ideas for the items to make larger meals with limited budget and availability and show how you accomplish it using basis skills. One thing I would like to see you add is the cost comparison of making vs buying frozen/prepared for your meals. Perhaps the info combined with your instructions would encourage others to at least try to actually cook, rather than reheat. I personally cook mostly from scratch, prep and freeze a lot and primarily watch your videos because I enjoy your outlook and over all message. Keep doing what you do! BTW, while you're happy it didn't reach 100 degrees today, up here in New England tonight, we're going to be down around 45 degrees! It's New England, tank tops yesterday and hoodies tonight. Be well and thanks again!

The pasta was purchased last year from Shaws when they had it as a loss leader $.39 / box, Alfredo was on clearance from Walmart $2.16 , Peas were free and the Broccoli and chicken were on sale. So not homemade but still inexpensive. I like your Dollar Tree videos my Coffee comes from there , shelf stable Soy Milk etc it is a great option for folks 😀

With gas prices, especially, saving 3 cents on one item vs. other items doesn't save any more money or time. If someone is only able to get to the Dollar Tree to get their ingredients, they are still coming out way ahead in saving money rather than driving to three different stores spending $$ in gas to save a dime. Good for you. These meals are very good, very frugal, and time saving---again going to three different stores costs money and time---and people have very little of both. Well done.

So fun! I love a good penne which these remind me of so I think I’m going to try to make these. I like to use a combination of a 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes and a can of tomato paste with garlic powder, onion (even dried minced onion can work if sautéed with oil) Italian seasoning (or fresh basil from the garden yum!) and salt and pepper. I like to keep it simple, my sauce to be both thick, and smooth yet have chunks of tomato and the pasta al dente. It seems the combination of those two canned goods work perfectly for me. Still, I’ve enjoyed the canned Hunts pasta sauces for a quick marinara sauce and so inexpensive and very yummy. The only homemade pasta I’ve ever made was noodles for chicken noodle soup. I’m excited to try more shapes and options! I love fettuccine and linguine too. Now I wish I knew how to make elbow pasta at home. That would be cool. 😊 Thanks for making this video. Very inspiring and informative. I’m seriously binge watching them all!

Lisa Dawn you are inspiring me every day. As I'm watching this video it hit me....I love meatballs & mashed potatoes & also croquettes. I've seen your videos on black bean burgers that turned out amazing so I'm thinking....blk bean meatballs/croquettes?!? Hmm. I actually made some croquettes from canned beef using only onion, 1egg, flour. They were delicious! The struggle is real!

To form even sized balls, you can also use two teaspoons. I use this method to make falaffel.

I love your videos, Lisa! I jumped on as soon as your notification came! What a wonderful way of making meatballs. We have our own lean hamburger from our dairy, otherwise I would sure go that route. I'll have to try making pasta again. You've inspired me! We have Dollar General, which is the closest, and they do have a lot of similarities. 😃

Hi Lisa 👋 you make the fresh pasta making look so easy that I definitely want to give it a try. I am beyond excited that you have found the time to make more videos, so much closer together. You are so helpful when it comes to money saving ideas and ways to make things on a budget. Thank you! I truly hope you are able to continue on your channel a few times a week. I hope you and your family enjoy the rest of your weekend and Sunday moves nice n slow , as not to bring on the chaotic start to another Manic Monday lol. 💕✌🏻

Hey cutie, they sell mashers in DT now too. They're not as high grade as your splurge one is, but it does the job.

Love your videos. 💕 I am a big fan of Dollar Tree parchment paper. Not always easy to find but I put it on my Dollar Tree cookie baking sheets and clean up is easy. The paper does not stick to what you bake. 😊
