Was an assistant manager there for 3 years. Left on December 1st just before the holiday rush cause they werent gonna appreciate our short staff dealing with uptake in customers. They lied to us on conference call 6 months ago saying January first they were raising our wages to $16 and hour, welp it's February 1st and managers in my state of Michigan start at $11 an hour..complete joke

on top of that its already stressful enough with staffing shortages and supply change shortages, dealing with the public has never been worse than during this pandemic...i was ready to break. Corporate still had the same exact expectations during the pandemic with 5 workers and hundreds and hundreds of customers because of the holidays as they did 3 years ago when we had a staff of 15 and it wasn't that busy because the economy wasn't in the shitter, people weren't budgeting as much as they are now, they were still sending us 1500 box trucks and expecting us to get it out, even though as i mentioned we had like 5 people on payroll and were crazy busy, everyone on shift had to run register. No time to stock or clean...terrible

I've never worked at a Dollar Tree but I've shopped at plenty of them and I see the way the employees are treated. Only 4 - 5 in the store that I've ever seen at once, one or two registers open, even when there are lines. And this - raising the prices, promising pay increases, and then not delivering? I've cut back shopping there a lot since I mainly go for the craft section and shampoos anymore, but now I wonder if that's even worth it. And, for the record, just about every employee I've ever dealt with has been pleasant, if not downright friendly. Awesome people, they deserve better.

I used to work for Dollar Tree for 6 months, so I can vouch for for some the stuff at Dollar Tree. Including the changing in prices and being short staffed 99% of the time. Including them over stocking the back with weekly trucks and nowhere to put everything and they would make us leave them in the aisles wether they were on the floor or not. And let's say one of the new guy's at the time said some messed up stuff against certain people south of the border and I would be the only one to call him out on it. I reported it to the manager and he got promoted right afterwards and after he was there for a month too. Then during the holidays I was on vacation and my sister and me got hit Covid and I told my boss and after a couple weeks I finally got cleared and I showed my boss proof. She got mad about that I gone for 2 weeks while I was hit with Covid and wrote me up for it. Me and her got into it and I told her I had enough of the crap and handed in my name tag and said that she and everyone who backed her up and go screws themselves.

yup, i remember when covid hit and they made it mandatory for people to wear masks upon entering the store and had maybe 2 staff members, you were almost guaranteed an arguement every hour with someone while doing 3 things at once from being understaffed. On truck day, everyone shows up to unload it and leave, leaving you to put things away for the rest of the week. cashiers cant be customer service, security guards, and stockers at the same time. Not for a salary less than McDonald's.

I worked at Kmart for 10 years before the Bankruptcy of 2018, got hired at Family Dollar 2 months later and its obvious they are making the same mistakes Sears and Kmart were making from a staffing and logistics prospective. Sears and Kmart at least had the advantage of prime real estate that made them worth more closed, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar only advantage is how they can take advantage of their employees. I think when the mass closings start it will be over quick for Dollar Tree and Family Dollar these stock numbers make their outlook very bleak.

As a former Dollar Tree employee (wasted 4 years there). I can tell you. None of us running their stores believe that the Dollar Tree CEO cares about their employees. So this isn't shocking at all. And we got a yearly wage increase (or did I'm not sure now I haven't been there for 5 years) of only 10 cents EVERY YEAR. After about 2 years my manager came to me and wanted me to be an assistant manager (I was a cashier). I gladly accepted her offer. And even got a phone call from my district manager (who also liked me) and asking me as well. I said yes. But he goes Oh by the way you have to take assessment test online. I did and failed it. EVERYONE in our store failed that test to become assistant manager. Only 1 person passed it and she was way less qualified to be a manager of any kind. And nobody liked her (not even as a cashier). I did over half of her office work once she became assistant manager. Because she couldn't remember any of it. So I helped her with payday and all that. Because I learned how to do it by watching my managers every night (I was always a closing cashier). So I ended up doing not only payday (which I wasn't supposed to touch at all). But also her management duties because she couldn't handle it (as she would tell me). She would also on the rare occasion I was an opening cashier make me take the deposit down to the bank every morning. Because and I quote "I don't have a car and I don't want to walk down there" though it was a short 1 minute walk down the street. That's how much Dollar Tree cares about it's people. They don't. They promote people that can't handle the work. And the people that want to climb up the corporate ladder, don't. Managers know who would work as an assistant manager in their stores. Not corporate with that dumb ass test.

I worked at Dollar Tree for 3 years before I quit a couple months before the pandemic hit. Yeah, its THAT BAD, especially with pay raises. that has always, I mean always been a thing where you only get a couple cent raises. The bag check thing only happened here and there with the manager being present. Also, if the manager is there, you have to also check the backroom (ex: freezer, refrigerator, bathrooms) before you left the store. I think there was an incident a couple years before I worked there where their was a customer that got to the backroom, and nobody checked into the morning of. I don't know if that was an actual thing but, that is what I heard. Sorry for the long rant, but Dollar Tree was pretty awful place to work. The only thing that I like was my coworkers there. Oh! And input inventory move tickets from the assembly line into a broken inventory management software system and go and hunt for the materials so that the line can assemble parts for items ready to ship. And usually that was all in one day. I wasn’t even making $15 an hour. They gave me a quarter raise and I threw a fit. I was at around 12.75 per hour before I found a new job making $17 and that was at management level over the same type of work. So even that pay was still under what I was performing at my newer job! That was in 2020 at the pandemic height. I will never let an employer run my life ever again or tell me what I’m worth. This wasn’t at Dollar Tree but I’m just using an example that relates.

I don't have too much of an issue with Dollar Tree raising their prices to $1.25. The name of the store means nothing when you go to any other "dollar store" and are buying things for 10 bucks. Then you have the "99 Cents ONLY Stores" selling a shit ton of items for more than 99 cents. It's usually 1.99 or 2.99 or even 3.99 for staple items like milk, eggs, or bread. Frozen foods are usually 1.99 or more as well.

I put up waiting on the one register that was open with 10 people in line, but no more. And I hate when someone has to buy 5 helium balloons when there is only one cashier. Its a shame the workers didnt get any of that 25 cent increase. The 99 cent store also had most items still at 99 cents, but now they are following dollartree and have increase prices too. If you look at the stock market in general, a lot of major corporations have had a drop since mid-November. Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, etc. Dollar Tree's stocks have not dipped because of this announcement. Also, Dollar Tree is king in rural communities along with Walmart. They've gotten so big, they can't fail in those small areas. This is what happens when we, the customer, allow something to become so big to fail. It's not to say that Dollar Tree or Walmart will never collapse. Amazon has been in competition with Walmart for a while. At the end of the day, don't work for major corporations. You'll be better off and not be treated as a number.

I worked at a Family Dollar store for 8 years. 5 in which I was an assistant. Summer of 2020 my boss left after 15 years with the company. 5 weeks later the other assistant left and I quit 5 weeks after that. The 3 of us were only gone a year and a half before they ended up shutting down that location. Crazy.

Guess I'm making my own birthday cards and paying more for gift bags because those are the only two things I go to these stores for, and that stops now

The 10-count mailing envelop pack went down to a 6-count envelop pack in the last few months. That was already a price increase.

those prices are already at the 1.25 here in California and its stupid keeping their name and might as well change the name of the 99cent store to

A slight devil's advocate. They are probably preparing for the logistics to get much worse on top of the supply. So instead of being forced to sell stocks and get yelled at when rebuying their stocks they are preparing a warchest.

Do any big retail chains ever give actual fair raises to their employees? I feel like even if they did they would just give you less hours until you quit and they could hire someone else on for minimum. That doesn't make much sense right now with the worker shortage but I'm not surprised they would continue business as usual. The fact is nobody isn't replaceable to them, it doesn't matter how well you do a job, they're perfectly happy to replace you with someone who has no idea what they're doing.

Dollar Tree actually can have so killer deals compared to other stores.

I went to Dollar Tree about a week ago and everything except canned vegetables is $1.25. I used to spend quite a bit of Moolah there....No More!! I'll go to the brand new Dollar General down the street. They have lots of dollar products still.

Minimum wage here in Brooklyn is $15/hr, which isnt terrible. So i always wondered why their employees look soo miserable, because ive had a lot harder jobs for half their pay. And yeah the extra .25 cents is annoying, but theyre still a great deal for certain items.

And they haven’t raised their prices since 1989

I was making a dollar above minimum wage then it increased by $1.50 leaving me back making minimum wage again after 3 years of work. While prices on everything increased leaving me with less money than ever before.

Dollar tree doesnt care i work next to one and the Manager at the time came into my work asking if she could use one of the phones due to her locking everything in the office and she had just started that week. She called her stores GM and ASM and was told by both of them Not our problem and to call a lock smith and pay for it out of pocket. I told her not to do that and to quit there and go anyplace other then that and i broke the office door down so she could get her things and she locked the sotre door and tossed the key under the door.

So this never getting above minimum wage stuff has been going on for decades and the minimum wage can't be raised in Washington DC.

i worked for Family Dollar for 4 years till dollar tree bought them and changed things. I was pushing sales on overstock monster energy drinks to the elderly, selling frozen food from broken freezers, force employees to listen to a pregenerated radio station with 8 songs all year long, and only got a 30¢ raise after 3 years working there because they are cheap. Worst job ever. Prison has a better atmosphere than working at dollar tree.
