Porter and Ruth actually separated just before Xmas 1965! He went to live on his own in an apartment which you actually see on the cover of his 1967 album Cold Hard Facts Of Life. He promised his parents he would never divorce whilst they were both still alive. He kept his word which he always did.

That's when country music changed when the old Stars got to there is nothing like the old Porter Wagoner shows now they Yankee and Robin everything on stage don't make no sense no balance and they think it is country music I don't even watch the Country Music Awards anymore because it is a bunch of bull

Grew up with Porter and Dolly and Breeze Detergent! Breeze Detergent had a towel in each box with some kind of flower on it and my granny made curtains from them.

You know what to me was so obvious never gets said. He was in love with her for God's sake! He tried every way not to let her go I know and it was never going to work out. You only have to watch how he looks at her - like a teenage kid! They were and remain the very best male/female duetists in Country Music and fortunately made up long before he passed on. In fact she was with his family at the hospice when he went. So it had a nice end really.

I know the man is gone now, and I was a big fan at one time, but the more I heard about him and from reading between the lines on his smart behaviour towards dolly, the more I began to understand Dolly's problems with him. I think Porter had too big an ego. and Dolly is the opposite. There was only one dumb blonde in their working relationship and it wasn't Dolly..
