It's my theory that Dolly Parton is the only person that everyone in America loves whether they're urban or rural, liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican, gay or straight.
@Gandhiji874 жыл бұрын
Change that to "everyone in the world" and you're right :-) She's loved all over the world. I've talked to people from Nigeria who says this song makes them think of their home town where they grew up :-)
@BonafideFaygo4 жыл бұрын
i know this comment is two months old, but if you havent listened to the podcast called Dolly Parton's America, you should; the entire 9 episodes are about the universal likability of Dolly, and a lot of it is direct interviewing with dolly.
@jefferydsmith99664 жыл бұрын
Porter was so damn jealous of Dolly! He knew her talent was light years ahead of his. Unfortunately he could never admit it publicly. Dolly stayed Classy, while Porter was an ass.

Rural, socialist queer here and she's the best damn thing to bless our nation. Dolly Parton is an American hero and a living goddess.

Seriously, she had the sweetest, most beautiful smile that there ever could be. Also, when she sings 'in my Tennessee mountain home', so much could go wrong there but she nails that high part every time.

The lyrics are pure poetry, to mention nothing of that beautiful soaring melody in the chorus. Nobody comes close to writing music with the innocence and honesty of Dolly Parton.

Sittin' on the front porch on a summer afternoon In a straightback chair on two legs, leans against the wall Watch the kids a' playin' with June bugs on a string And chase the glowin' fireflies when evenin' shadows fall In my Tennessee mountain home Life is as peaceful as a baby's sigh In my Tennessee mountain home Crickets sing in the fields near by Honeysuckle vine clings to the fence along the lane Their fragrance makes the summer wind so sweet And on a distant hilltop, an eagle spreads it's wings An' a songbird on a fence post sings a melody In my Tennessee mountain home Life is as peaceful as a baby's sigh In my Tennessee mountain home Crickets sing in the fields near by Walkin' home from church on a Sunday with the one ya' love Just laughin', talkin', making future plans And when the folks ain't lookin', you might steal a kiss or two Sittin' in the porch swing, holdin' hands In my Tennessee mountain home Life is as peaceful as a baby's sigh In my Tennessee mountain home Crickets sing in the fields near by
