This is a sad song, but the Dolly/Porter version sounds happy. The best version is by Neil Diamond; next, the original by the composer of the song, Tom Paxton. Dolly and Porter resemble Guy Mitchell 'crooning' the great Marty Robbins hit, 'Singing The Blues.' Same as Pat Boone trying to sing Fats Domino.....now, 'Ain't That a Shame.?
