@@GoldenSunAlex They're too harsh on kids and exhaust them. The way kids are introduced to books makes them naturally dislike them. Everyone reads the same book, one person reads aloud, and the rest follow along, for faster readers, this is boring, for slower readers, this is confusing. They don't encourage a love for reading, kids only ever read when they HAVE to. The kids are wrongfully led to feel that reading is just a chore that they have to get out of the way because the schools just don't do enough to make them feel otherwise.

She's said in an interview recently that if she takes of her wig, wears more "conservative" aka plain clothes and minimal makeup she looks so unlike what we think of as "Dolly Parton" that she is able to go around mostly unrecognized. Since I first heard Dolly sing this song on the radio, I've always felt that the minor key made her song sound like Irish "cottage singing". It made me think of a sad woman sitting by the window at sunset. I love the guitar accompanying Dolly! I was never beautiful, but by the grace of God, a man chose me to live his life with instead of a "Jolene" who had her eyes on him. My husband and I had a joyful marriage for 35 years before he passed.

Well, she begs and can't compete. It is deep and very saddening. But the story is more amazing when you learn that the song was written after Dolly met the "prettiest little girl I'd ever seen" at a show one time. In 1974 one of my neighbors asked me to help run a spotlight at a country western show. I was a rocking and rolling teenager and country western shows weren't high on my list of things to do on a Friday night but I needed the $20 they offered me. It was the Porter Wagoner Show and the stage crew met briefly with Porter before the show started. Porter was a task master and he pretty much rubbed me the wrong way but there was this beautiful, very friendly blond singer that I immediately fell in love with. Needless to say her name was Dolly. That night, to Porters dismay I kept my spotlight on Dolly. He had to crowd her on stage to stay in the spotlight. I was transfixed and mesmerized watching and listening to Dolly perform. What an Angel. After the show I managed to avoid bumping into Porter backstage but Dolly took the time to thank each of the stage crew. When she shook my hand I almost melted. What a Goddess. Beautiful, talented, kind and friendly. In the next couple of years Dolly Parton became a headliner and she lost Porter and the rest is history.

Nashville is such an amazing place. I’m not even a huge country music fan. But I went there with a girlfriend a while back, she wasn’t huge into country music either, we both appreciate, but not totally our style. We had so much fun. On the main strip, clubs all over, nice restaurants too for the most part. And the music. All clubs had amazing music. And every other place was a bar with live music, it was amazing. One night I swear the guitarist was almost as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan Tennessee is a beautiful state too, I’d love to live there. But I’m a Jersey boy, I’d miss the shore.

I wasn't a big country listener (I'm not even American lol) but the first time ever I heard this song played, I was just suddenly and magically transfixed. The lyrics! I couldn't stop listening to it! Without asking its listeners before hand it just started telling this dark and rather devastating story, with sharp choices of words that immediately painted a vivid imagery in my mind of Jolene, of Dolly, of her sleeping husband calling out Jolene, and of the sharp feeling in Dolly's gut right after. I fell in love with it. It's poetry.
