In this video, we will look at the Dometic CT Single Zone RV Thermostat that comes in many RVs. It has several features that are fairly easy to understand and a few features that need more explanation. The thermostat is prone to have issues if you don’t understand an important feature of the unit. We will walk through each of the main features to give you a solid understanding of how your thermostat works. We’ll also talk in detail about a problematic design issue with the thermostat.

Great rundown. I'm currently on the hunt to get the controller to stop flashing E4. I cleaned the filters, cleaned the evaporator and condensor. And I've performed a reset at the control. Next step, turn off the 50-amp and see if that resets the unit on the roof. We appreciate what you do John.

I had the problem with the touch sensitivity of the thermostat from when I first got my new Rpod. The RV tech showed me how to fix it by pulling out the foam blocks slightly to decompress them with a tweezer being careful not to tear them. Once he did that I've been careful not to push the buttons and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks John for the great video. Have you had any issues of the unit cycling on and off and the coils freezing. Curious if you had any suggestions for that on hot humid days.
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes if it is really hot and humid, the coils can ice up if the unit is running a long time. Basically you may need to let it thaw out before turning it back on. You can run the fan a while and keep the compressor off to expedite the melt. If the unit is older or you have been in areas with lots of debris in the air, you may need to clean the coils (which should be done regularly) and this can improve performance. I had a bunch of milkweed in my coils recently from a trip in Michigan in June that junked up my coils. Makes a difference in performance if you keep them clean. Thanks!

I am assuming that you are plugged into shore power (30 amp) and that all your wall outlets are working fine in the RV? If so, check your fuse box to see if something tripped the A/C fuse. Also, can you get the fan to run on low or high from the thermostat? If you can, then the A/C unit is likely getting power, since the fan that runs is in the A/C unit. Let me know.

Hey John, I've already watched this video. It's different than the set up I have. Wish I could send you a picture of what I have. My thermostat resembles the old style in home type with control setting lever on top that you move left or right. My question also is. Does it operate the overhead AC unit that has the on off control knobs on unit. I fail to see how the thermostat controls the overhead. ugggh. Thanks again for any insight. Jody

I am not sure of your set up. It seems like your thermostat only controls your furnace. So the video does not apply. Likely your A/C has controls on it to adjust fan speed and cooler temps. You will have to play with it to see how it works. Thanks!

Cliff, sounds like the thermostat isn't calibrated well as 10 degrees is a pretty big delta. Mine usually kicks on when it gets about the temps set and sometimes stays on pretty long after it gets below the required cooling temp (3-4 degrees). I believe there is a two-year warranty on the thermostat and would think you could call Dometic (or your dealer) to get a replacement if it is not working properly. Thanks.

@JohnMarucci 2 жыл бұрын
With a dual A/C unit, you may have a separate breaker for each unit. First thing I would do is to check the fuse box in the RV to ensure nothing has been tripped. This can happen if you are drawing too much juice from being plugged in, especially if you need 50-Amp to run both A/Cs and are plugged into 30-Amp service at a campground. Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Most main door dead-bolt locks are unique to a degree, but I think you are correct on the cargo locks, that they are less unique. I almost always camp at state parks and feel pretty safe with many other campers around. If I boon-docked regularly or camped more isolated, I likely would make this issue a priority. When my RVs are in public storage I first clear out my cargo holds. I also store at reputable places with security gate and camera. So to it depends on your camping style and where you plan to camp. If you are certain you have power to the A/C (your RV must be plugged into shore power via your 30 or 50 amp cord) and 12 volt battery power, and it isn't working, first check you fuse box at the converter to see if the A/C for some reason has tripped the fuse off.
