I was never much a fan but I met Dominick at Bellator (Chael vs Tito) which was shortly after his loss to Cody. We spoke for a couple minutes and concluded with me telling him how much I respected his talk at the post-fight press conference. He said, very sincerely; "Thank you, man. I appreciate that." We took a picture, shook hands and went back to our seats. Really glad to have met him. Respect.

That has to be the best post-fight speech I have ever heard come from a fighter that lost. If anyone ever feels the need to listen to an uplifting speech, that speech is it. And the last thing he said after he was asked why he wasn't sitting down was perfection.

Does it make you feel good to call others casual? I never understood this type of insult. Everyday there is a new fan coming into the sport.
@Silverspy975 жыл бұрын
@@workeveryday8737 It has nothing to do with how he feels. He's calling them casuals because there are a ton of "fans" that have no clue what his legacy is and what his struggle has been. They are the first to call him frail and weak and that he should retire...because they have no idea what this guy is made of both in heart and mind. Dismissing him because of his injury is exactly why they are casuals.

@stephenmonash82455 жыл бұрын
Ricardo... you call them negative thoughts.. Not at all.. it is about reality... the same way Chuck laddel should never fight again. We are not questioning his intelligence.. but rather showing we care. When you see someone falling apart before your eyes.. you hope that they at least consider another path.. rather than continue to implode. Sometimes... like Ortega .. the doctor retired him as he was too tough for his own good. Lastly, Dom said himself that there are other things he can do... just as Rogan advised Brendan Schaub ...There is life after the UFC. No one is forcing anyone to retire ... but we ought to be able to express our concerns for obvious reasons. And I am sure Dom has thought about it.. but framed it as a positive option. Choose your own path.. but listen to others along the way...nobody exists in a vacuum. We all need to weigh up the pros and cons of anything..and seek advice...it is called critical thinking. Your analyses that people are picking on him is not accurate .. .it is mere opinion.
@SOLE_II_SOUL5 жыл бұрын
@@stephenmonash8245 But Dominick Cruz is no where near Liddell as far retirement is concerned. Plus it may appear as if he's falling apart, but each time Dom has had a setback, his track record has proven that he can win his comeback fight. So I can see why someone would be concerned, but as I said, Dom is totally different. Dom would feel more regret not trying, than trying and failing

Dominick is the man. Waaaayyy back in the day.... when his rivalry w/ Uriah was young (before their 2nd fight)... I didn't like Dom or connect w/ him as a WEC/UFC fighter. But... ever since his first major injury set back that robbed him of the belt for a time, I have followed his interviews and fight camps and commentating and fights, and I gotta say. I respect Dominick Cruz as one of the all-time greatest champions in the sport of MMA. #FoReal #RESPECT Over the years, seeing and hearing about his journey is a blessing. I relate to Dom on many levels, and love him as a champion. Honestly, I put him right up there w/ Anderson, GSP, Jon Jones, Demetrius Johnson, Alistair Overeem, DC, TJ, Stipe, Hendo, Fedor, Uriah, Max Halloway, and Rampage as one of my favorite fighters. What Dom has gone thru publicly in his sports career, I have gone thru on a much more private life level. So, I respect his champion mentality and faith to keep fighting everyday to move forward and overcome. #FightForward #Champion The belts never made Dominick a champion, clearly he is a champion with or without the belt.

a real piece of wisdom explained in context so we actually understand the point. without the context it's like telling your child "you must have good grades at school" - he or she doesn't understand what you mean and WHY is all this effort, all this sacrifice. very sad to hear about these news but it's truly amazing how Dominick reframed the situation, making it bigger than himself, about making an example and helping others. Inspirational. But the question arises is he not pushing his body beyond its limits. I have had severe health problems and what I learned is that I need to accept there are limitations to what my body can endure and if I am not listening there will be more severe consequences. Like 5 years later I can say that me listening and accepting was the wisest thing I have done maybe. I learned that "it's only in your head" is BS, because there are physical constraints. But as Cruz said, he is a man of his own judgment so I wish him a quick recovery (as if one year can be called quick) and I would be very happy to see him back in the ring in full health as soon as possible!
