This had the best of everything in WoW. Vash'jir was freaking beautiful, had the best soundtrack, and there was nothing wrong with the combat. I don't know why everyone says there is. Vash'jir will always be the best zone to me.

DeVon Mohn Underwater content is generally hated in the WoW community. You might remember how often you had to swim around in old Vanilla content. When Cata hit, most underwater quests were either scrapped or made insanely easy.

The Leitmotiv of this piece is genius; ominous, vast, secretive, distant (deeps), yet beatiful and promising to discover for those eager to know, invites you to explore beyond limits, but no promise you ever can (or want to) back. Sorry my bad english, i hope you get the picture.

Absolutely love this track and this map. It gives new life and mystery to Azeroth. I was playing in a private server and I did all the quests, got the achievement. I never played retail during Cata but it seemed good.

Something about Vashj'ir always has me sitting at the edge of my chair, breathing heavily, not really eating at all, reading all the quest texts and giving me that feeling, that horrible feeling that makes me lonely when i'm surrounded by people, makes me feel like it's midnight at noon, and makes me ignore my hunger and carry on.

lol same. I remember that some time after Cata launched and i finished Vashjr i went to the sea for holidays and was diving near coral reefs it reminisced me this music and overall feeling of the zone so much. It still kind of does when i have oportunity to go diving. That just shows how great job they did. Vashjr is one of the best zones ( if not best).

One of the best zones in WoW IMO, it's such a shame that a lot of it got scrapped and unresolved. Who is the Battle Maiden and where did she go? What happened to Ozumat? What happened to the island that was so crucial for the Horde/Alliance to capture? What's the deal with the dragon skeletons in the abyssal depths? What about the obvious presence of N'Zoth and why was it so important for them to take control of Nespirah and the other shellfish thing whose name I can't remember? So many unanswered questions...
@jake06750
@jake06750 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, also, the fact that the Abyssal Maw raid was scrapped also sucked. There was never any sort of conclusion to the Throne of the Tides. Ozumat just grabs Neptulon and swims into the distance. That's it. Even thought it got scrapped, I wish Patch 4.1 could have been Abyssal Maw. I actually liked questing through Vash'jr too.
@Donnerbalken28
@Donnerbalken28 8 жыл бұрын
The gameplay in that Zone was awful! So awful in fact, that they scrapped abyssal maw just for this very reason. 4.1 was supposed to be the "fire and water patch" but, as someone stated at blizzcon, they just couldn't make the raid enjoyable with the 3D combat in Vash'jir. So it got scrapped.

Vashj'ir had great quests and a truly epic storyline testament to how difficult it was to bring an underwater to fruition. Although I'm not much a fan of vehicle-based quests (which admittedly Vashj'ir did have), I enjoyed it thoroughly nonetheless. My only regret is that they didn't pan out the Abyssal Maw with a raid, more dungeons, and more lore. It felt unfinished. I also thought the way they implemented Neptulon was a significant letdown, with him simply making a small cameo. In order to stimulate the prestige of dungeons and raids, zone quests should introduce the prospect of reaching the story's climax through instances. Vashj'ir could have easily done this for the Abyssal Maw considering how fantastic its quests were.
@blackayana66
@blackayana66 9 жыл бұрын
Joshua Tunis That's because it is unfinished, Not Vashj'ir itself but the lore, Vashj'ir was basically a view into what is to come, with N'Zoth the cause of the Naga and us yet defeating him we are going to see a whole lot more, I mean even legion is starting to look like it will teeter towards the naga once more, thus bringing us closer to N'zoth and the underwater lores that follow.

I'll never forget the first time I came here while playing my shaman on launch day. The way the kraken thing showed up and threw us into the sea was pretty cool, and the most memorable part about that initial experience was watching my unconscious shaman sink down to the dark depts of the ocean to his doom before being rescued. The tone of the whole zone was set right there for me. This was by far Cata's best zone (imo). I hope that one day we can finish this naga storyline completely and finally confront Azshara.

still hope they come up with some more amazing underwater zones. The soundtrack gives me chills, because it really gives you a feeling of the open and wide sea and all the mystery hidden in it. I dont know why so many people choose hijal over vashjr over and over again, hijal is basically just another 0815 zone and this is something special. I had absolutely no problem with moving aroung or targeting and i think people who do even fail at playing pong.

Hyjal has a lot going for it. As of now, it is a great zone lore-wise and back in Cata in the firelands patch, you needed Hyjal quests to do the firelands dailies...So there was that, too. ...But I'm a little odd in that regard. I just do Vashj'ir everytime one of my characters has the eligible level to go there. Something about the music, something about the atmosphere and holy crap - something about the really creative art design in general just amazes me. And then - the creative (and fun) quests. Remember the eel-killing quest w/o context? I laughed for a good 5 minutes at that stupidity and I loved every second of this zone in general. Such a great place. Underwater overall is WAY too underrated - it can be so beautiful!

I always thought the island they were fighting over was Tol Barad.
@nated5606
@nated5606 10 жыл бұрын
I did at first, but then you have to consider that the island is said to be brand new and Tol Barad, while it was a new zone in WoW, is not a new island in WoW lore, it's been there for quite a long time. Remember that there is a landmass in the middle of Vashj'ir, though really, all it is is just a mountainous peak next to a thin sand bar with just two flight masters and a bunch of wrecked siege equipment. Assumably, this little piece of crap that serves no purpose beyond being one of Vashj'ir's only flight paths with Gryphons/Wyverns IS that island they were fighting over. We already know that not everything went according to plan in the final production of Cataclysm, and that a lot of ideas ended up being scrapped. My guess is that they were toying with expanding Gilneas and turning this tiny island into a PvP zone, but they never went through with either idea, so they took parts of both scrapped ideas and combined them into Tol Barad.
@nated5606

***** In fairness, MoP didn't 'stop' Vashj'ir's completion. Vashj'ir was a procrastinated project that never got finished because it was going to be wrapped up in a raid in 4.1 along with the Firelands. But neither project was nearly ready by 4.1, so they were put off to 4.2. Then they realized that the "fire half" of 4.2 was looking WAY better than the "water half" so they just made it all about the Firelands. The "water raid" looked like crap and was far from completion (it is comparable to Tol Barad's raid - only 3 bosses with no new artwork), which justifies this cancellation, I think. However, the fact that they never did anything with it before 4.3 is what we should be mad about. The raid itself probably would've been garbage, but it's a real shame that the questing zones and their stories never received an ending. TL;DR: Vashj'ir was doomed well before 5.0, so we can't really blame the Pandaren for this one. We *should* be mad that Vashj'ir didn't get any battle pets though.

I feel like people completely ignored this zone because it was slightly inconvenient to be underwater the whole time. Such a shame. This music, and in fact the entire zone and storyline, were incredibly ominous. You felt like you were in danger the whole time. Then you saw a whale shark drift by and realized that hey, you really were.

I didn't know what to expect with Vashj'ir, I thought that like all of Azeroth's ocean scenes it would just be a blank ocean floor with the occasional rock or herb to break the monotony. For all of their flaws in game design and writing (especially in Cataclysm), Blizzard has a knack for creating an atmosphere. This is just one of several zones where the music is as much part of the landscape as the art assets, making you FEEL the depths of the cold waters, their mysteries and wonder with its exotic, playful quality. I've only ever had to stop and experience 2 zones in my time playing the game - Grizzly Hills and Vash'jir. Those who don't bother with this place are missing out.

Water is not an element. It’s a compound made up of 2 different types of elements: hydrogen and oxygen.

I loved how Vashj'ir played with the idea of 3 dimensional combat. As a mage, it was exceptionally fun.

In my opinion, the only zone that Cataclysm did truly well. Every other zone was either predictable in the WoW sense or had an uninspiring story line. While this one did seem less relevant in the scope of things, I agree with Pepitobenito that both the story and zone itself were quite ominous. If I were to resub, this would go on my list of zones to replay.

Vashj'ir did the same thing to me as the Storm Peaks in the expansion before it. All hopped up on energy drinks late at night soon after release, I was truly immerse in the quests. It just felt so surreal. Youre on a boat going to war, and the next thing you know youre riding a seahorse. Same as stormpeaks where youre saving some goblins, and then suddently youre in the lesbian-olympics. What a trip wow can be ^.^

This zone is epic, questing was great =). There were completely different physics for fighting than you would normally worry about. Let's look around....Up, Down, Left, WHALE SHARK!

Agreed. I couldn't believe how empty it always was, or how bloody cynical people were about it. Fantastic looking, good storyline, amazing soundtrack...to hell with the haters.

You`re right, everyone hated it, due to the backtracking, but i liked it and the one thing that amazed me most about it, is how Rareware connected all worlds through several pathways and made that a puzzle mechanic. It really felt like exploring isle o`hags as a whole.

This reminds me far too much about the release of Cataclysm. The night where I spent half my time doing these quests. :) Lovely memories after it and still enjoying the game.

Gosh, even know Cataclysm feels like yesterday, nevermind the previous expansions :D i remember at the start of Cata, logging on at midnight (after server dc's and loggin issues haha) :D but i remember waiting for the boat in SW and heading to this area, was so crazy! the amount of Alliance and Horde fighting was intense :p
