I think they allowed it because he was turned into a solid. They probably observed him for awhile to make sure he truly wasn't able to shapeshift anymore, and then let him go. It's unlikely the Founders would do such a thing to any other changeling.

everyone is saying that "the moment section 31 won the war for the federation". this is not the sickness that almost killed the founders, this time the founders infected odo so he would return to the link for judgment. section 31 infects odo later, shortly before the federation abandons the station. then odo links with the other changling and the sickness is spread.

Nope. Section 31 infected odo with the virus in the Season 4 opener on Earth at Starfleet headquarters, Bashir and O'Brien discover that from Sloane. When Odo returns to the link in this episode to be judged, he unknowingly infects them too without them realising it. That's the irony. The female changeling was trapped in the Alpha quadrant when the minefield went up in the Season 5 finale, she says as much on the station to Odo in Season 6, that she's come to Odo cause she's alone and wants to be with her own kind. The female changeling never rejoins the great link when she arrives in the alpha quadrant at some point in Season 5 after Cardassia joins the Dominion and she states in Season 7 that her whole race is dying because of the virus/disease.

@garyhdngl86 I think you should watch again. The founders admitted that they infected odo. The sickness that almost destroyed the race section 31 infected odo with later and when he shared a link with the "head changling" for a lack of better ways to describe it, it became infected. Plus there were other changlings in the alpha quadrant that it would have linked with and one or more of them would have returned home and linked with everyone if the main one never returned ever after the minefield was brought down.

@@NitpickingNerd what happens to odo and the others is they start drying out, get crusty. here, odo is very very gooey. this is something the founders did. besides, even if section infected odo on earth, in this episode him becoming a solid would have rendered this virus ineffective. they infect him later after he becomes a changling again. sloan visits the station many times. before he stops by the docs quarters, he stops by odos room, probably sprays the entire room with the virus so when odo touchs anything in there, he's infected.
