It took me 35 years to realize that my family's lack of belief in me had nothing to do with my abilities and everything to do with their own self-imposed limitations. They couldn't envision more for themselves so how could they ever envision it for me. They would call me a dreamer and roll their eyes. I was a 6 and that message stuck for a long time, but I eventually followed my dreams and lived according to my own script. Now instead of being angry with them, I can be empathetic.

Your timing, this week, was perfect for me! Boy, did I NEED to hear this!...I was a stay at home mom of 4 children...As I have gotten older, and am at home, most of the time alone, I sometimes let the negative thoughts and feelings about getting older cloud my view. I am married to a wonderful man, who I love dearly, he is also 7 years younger than me and as I have "aged", I found that I was beginning to focus on that age difference more! The other night I had a "meltdown" about it all. My husband is the head of a large Human Resource Mental health Organization and has many employees under him...some of whom are female and younger than me. I am writing all of this just to say, that you are so right, that we NEED to spend time in self, positive talk! I am blessed, because my husband realized my struggle and said the most precious, beautiful words back to me...I think, for women, it is so IMPORTANT to have a safe community of other women, that we can depend on and share with! I just have to reiterate that your Channel, your Forum, is just that!.... A safe place to land!!! Thank You....

I love the idea of speaking to yourself with kindness, I’ve just turned 51 and was useless at school and was told age 11 by the Headmaster that due to my grade in Geography I wouldn’t amount to much in fact once he read my appalling grade out to the class, he proclaimed I wouldn’t truly get lost! This affected my confidence in the most awful way, I’ve been a cleaner in people’s homes for 37 years, so that I don’t have to face people that much. I’m not sure I can make a change overnight but this little chat, has acknowledged a topic that is long overdue, thank you for bringing it to the fore.

I know the grades you make in school does not reflect your intelligence . Some of the smartest people I know made bad grades in school . That just wasn’t their thing or that way to learn and I’ve known people that made straight A’s are good at memorization, but can’t use it in real life and appear to be not so smart . So put all that school trauma behind you if you can and be the new you .

One confidence booster I have found, is to keep my word to myself. If I write down To Dos/Goals, etc., I make it my purpose to get those things accomplished. This has fostered a greater sense of trust in myself and my determination. Professionally, I find it very empowering to speak out loud the many ways I am great at my job. It's especially helpful when I am in the car, alone, travelling to work when I am anticipating a meeting, attempting a new task, etc. Having spent countless hours in the preparation phase you mentioned, this practice of speaking out loud has been like icing on the cake. Thanks for opening this very important topic!

Oh my this brings back so much to me.. for years I spent living a life that I was put down, abused, I did not have any self confidence. I left that life moved away and started baby steps on where I wanted to be.. how I can achieve the goals I set... that was ten years ago! I went to college in my late fifties, little by little started gaining self confidence in all aspects of my life! I worked on me! I graduated top of my class! Each step I take I strive to look forward and succeed! It may not happen right away but if you want it you can do it! I left all drama! I live a life of grace with those around me that give me peace. I love helping others and try to do so in some way everyday! After all these years I have found the peace I so needed and I am still working on me but I am truly happy. Thank you for reaching out to those of us that truly needed to hear this! Love you lady and all you represent. Keep up the amazing work you do! ♥️ Kat from New York

I think this has been the best video that I've watched on your channel. (and so timely) I have been a stay at home mom for nearly 30 years. Just this last year, I took a temporary job to get my feet wet. A lot of people that I interacted with at my job somehow felt threatened by me or that I was somehow competition. I didn't in the least feel flattered by this as I'm so new going back into the work force and just trying to feel confident in my own skin and in what I'm doing. I'm not really sure why we do this to each other. It would have been so helpful for people to say, "wow you are really brave trying to do this at this point in your life." I really appreciate your kind words and encouragement that there are a few things I can do to boost how I'm feeling inside. I've always struggled with self confidence. I'm glad there are some nice teachers like you out there.

So glad I watched this video. I actually searched the words and saw familiar face I trust..after what can only be described as a pivotal lifte changing moment in December just gone , I decided I need to focus on my family not my job. 18 years in a job where I wasn’t appreciated and I took a leap of faith, with no self confidence. Got myself a new job , on a path where I want to be, helping people. I will have weekends off and most of all I have done myself proud and took on the advice my mother gave me a thousand times. Wish I had the courage to have done it before she suddenly passed. 2 months ago, but I can’t change that. Just look forward . Thanks again Dominique xx

I grew up in a very harsh environment but have learned to overcome the negative tape recorder my mother repeatedly instilled in us kids. Her favorite lines were, "you're not worth the salt in your tears" and "you'll never amount to a hill of beans". That's a horrible thing to say to your child...or anyone! I know now, I'm a child of the Most High God and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Thank you Dominique for helping so many overcome life's issues and pointing us in the right direction to gain confidence to become who we really are.

My dad cheated on my mom after 37 years of marriage. She suspects it wasn’t the first time. It took her about 5-6 years to bounce back. Now, 7 years later, she’s almost back to herself on a full-time basis. She was with him from age 16, so that also added to the pain and breakage of trust. Give yourself time, and remember, it wasn’t your fault!! You are worthy of loyalty and trust. Sending love and healing your way ❤

I am so glad I discovered your channel. This video really resonated with me. One year ago last April , I was done. The pain and hurt overcame me. I almost lost my family my job myself. I was diagnosed with borderline personally disorder. Divine intervention happened somehow I enrolled in intensive outpatient therapy and went hard core DBT or dialectical behavioral therapy. My life outlook relationships have been transformed I thought myself how to love myself from the inside out. Just as I love others from the inside out. It's been a tough lonely and scary journey but I won't quit. Thank you for your words of wisdom and great ideas to help me stay my course. God Bless

Your point about goals has really struck me. It has been very much on my mine lately, especially after this last year when I feel I have just been spinning my wheels. I will be 73 at the end of the month. Thoughts about what may lay ahead and what do I want for this time have been on my mind. Do I want to set specific goals? How long should the timeline for these goals be? Do I really want to make any major changes in my life at this point. My life is good - Thank God!

This video has (once again) come along at the most appropriate time. I am a 57 year old empty nester. I want to become a health coach (helping women through menopause and aging). I know that I need to start a web sight and blogging. This feels very overwhelming to me. I was discussing this with a good friend this morning. She suggested taking 15 minutes a day to write (anything the comes into my head). Also, possibly taking a writing course at the local junior college. Thank you again for this video...You look as gorgeous as ever.

There are so many coaches on KZbin but I dont see anyone who comes close to a natural poise and classiness that you possess.

I love this content Dominique . I find a lot is mind over matter . I had a job where I stood up and talked to large groups of people every week and it didnt mean I was super confident but I remember if I woke up lacking in confidence and not wanting to mix or put myself out there, I used to change my mind set saying to myself today I am going to be fantastic at work and love mixing with everyone and have a great day and it worked !! Also my tip to speak to a large group was to chat as though your having a conversation with a friend and your delivery will be relaxed and chilled , if your uptight it does not flow and people feel uncomfortable xxx

I LOVE this! Thank you! So many can benefit from this! (speaking as a certified confidence coach). Last year I had a professional CV(resume) prepared for myself for a board position I was applying for. It was so empowering. She interviewed me for 2 hours and put my 30+ years of achievements into a document. I would have never been able to do that myself (maybe in a journal but not for a public document!)

Every word you said hits me right on the nail; I was holding back tears as you spoke. Lacking self confidence is the one thing my husband and I talk about and express how it has hindered our lives and wish we could get a do over for the past 45 years. As much as we have worked to overcome these type of obstacles, it is still a daily challenge because of those negative voices we hear and our childhood. You are so correct in changing the people around you in order to grow and overcome familiar negative thoughts. I taught my daughter from an early age to make friends with people who are more intelligent and had a higher socioeconomic level than herself so she could grow and have more positive and far reaching life experiences, and she did., but all the while being friendly to everyone. Her childhood was the very opposite of mine and my husband's. Our friends and co-workers are such a blessing to us, as they lift us up and we lift them up. Thank you so much for this, there is such kindness and sincerity in your voice.

Dominique 🌺 I think this is lovely. Every day I speak to clients that feel so less than and have such low self esteem. I think social media and marketing,to women especially, plays a huge roll. Images that are filtered or not real and we think we must not be beautiful Because we have a grey hair or a beautiful wrinkle. Wabi Sabi embracing the imperfections of life in ourselves and in aging.. a gift! I know we teach beauty abbot differently, however we teach so much of the same … you can be everything you want to be and we are here to lift you up!! I was not raised in a loving home, however I am a very loving momma and wife and I am grateful for leaning what a child needs. I am who I am from where I come from. This was lovely. Thank you Danielle and blessings to everyone here. YOU ARE ENOUGH🙌🏻🧡🍑Lisa

Thank you Dominique, this was a great and informative video, I enjoyed it a lot.... words I try not to use are I can´t, I´m scared, I think fear plays a big role in how confident you are or not, I know as I have got into my middle years I have grown more self confident because I care less what people think about me, not that I don´t care about people because I do very much, I know I´m a kind loving caring human being who cares about others and I believe that God will always help me in my goals , I feel that if you take care of your self in all aspects of your life your confidence grows because you look better you feel better and so you do better, thank you again very nice video you are truly an inspiration to many of us xx

Because I do not have a 4 yrs degree, my confidence at work can waine a bit. However, I do my best to stay well informed regarding industry news & make it known to everyone my goal is to move up within the company. I fortunate to find many are willing to help. For those who are similar situations, just tell yourself what you would tell a best friend- "DON'T GIVE UP- YOU'VE GOT THIS!"

I so often read “a reason, a season, a lifetime. It truly puts into perspective when a situation with someone changes and we wonder why. Sometime someone is there for a reason, to help, or a season just to help us when we need it for a season and last of all a lifetime they are there for the long haul. I have turned to this many times when I ask why? If you look it up it will explain it in more detail. Thank you for this empowering talk. 😘

Each day for the last 3 days I have been given the message about the power of our words when I was reading something or listening to something. I begin each day with a list of powerful affirmations but I just added some declarations about a specific situation I am facing. I say those whenever the negative thoughts attack and believe in faith for the things I am hoping for. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

Dominique, this is my favorite of all. Spoken from the heart, genuine and, your eyes speak the truth. Wow! You are one good soul and sharing these tips, that I can draw and put in a frame, reminded me of what I do for myself, my family and others. All of what I do has given me the chance to live a happy life and to continue my purpose. I am happy and everyone around me is happy even through tough times, not all is dark and looking at things positively even if it is hard has made life so easier (we all have our problems). Thank you for this video and thank God I found you just a couple of months ago. You are a special human being. Bless you xx

I have to thank you and this community of women. I have asked myself this question in the last few weeks puzzled by why I don't. When you started talking especially giving the definition of self confidence, it hit home. I didn't realize that I don't trust myself in some aspects. Thank you for helping to break this down so I can look at this one piece at a time. I'm keeping this too to watch again. Working through these steps will help me where this may come from and how to change it with a goal. It's calming when you explain in your comforting and gentle way. The thoughts aspire better. Spending time with yourself as you talked about is really key to this too. When you look good, you feel good, and you perform better. This is a lightbulb moment for me. Thank you so much.

Loved this! Thank you. Point 5 that you talk about - ‘Do for others’ is actually compassion. Compassion is the next step on from showing empathy, compassion is actually empathy plus an action. Showing compassion for others and ourselves releases endorphins that make us feel good which has a lot of benefits.

I just went to get coffee and stood behind a lady that exuded confidence in her own unique way that I found amusing and admiring at the same time. This lady said what was on her mind, asked questions no matter how silly she sounded, and she did not seem to care who heard what she had to say. Would I take notes? Not really. Her way wouldn’t suit my personality, but I was inspired as I watched and listened to what some may perceive as weird, flighty, or unaware. But, as I observed her interactions it didn’t take long to realize she was none of those things. She clearly didn’t know how to order, but she knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to ask for it. She didn’t look around to see who was listening or looking at her, nor did she even glance my way as I stood 6 feet away behind her. The barista was the only person she needed to talk to and he gave her his attention as she commanded. She got her questions answered and a free splash of liquid sugar that she wasn’t sure she had to pay for! Lol I would have loved to tell her I learned something from her, but I don’t think I needed to, and it just made my day!

What a wonderful comment from you! Sometimes it is strange how we react to people around us who are different than what we think they might be such as an older lady having the confidence to get what she wants instead of being meek and scared. I always feel I look so old and shabby in my comfy jeans that I will get sent out of the store, haha I won't go! I am worth it.
