Our 3R issues are not exclusive to Malaysia. It is the politics in all democracies. Look no further than the US, UK and France. The same nonsense exists and in fact continues to thrive. Why? Because the system hasn't worked since even during the great philosophical period before Christ. Socrates said democracies created demagogues and suggested that only the educated be allowed to vote. This was a reason that got him in trouble and eventually sentenced to death. Has the western world learnt anything since? It's all to do with the system of governance. Likewise monarchies and autocracies have probably done worse since absolute power corrupts absolutely. However, communism with a certain balance of liberalism seems to have worked out well as in the case of China and Russia. They're not perfect and can never be but its probably the best option based on historical record. Communism is truly governance for the people (give - shared prosperity) unlike democracy that has its foundation built on dominance (take).

Hi to all, Malaysian living abroad for the last 25 years. Absolutely agree with Chandran that most Malaysians don’t realise that Malaysia is a wonderful country to live in minus sometimes the overwhelming heat 😂. Thank you to the host, Mr Khoo, for inviting Mr Nair for the third time. If I recall right, Mr Nair is an eloquent orator, who explains in simple language relating to political, social economic, environmental so forth matters, both at home and globally, which would otherwise sound like rocket science to a layman like me. Today’s podcast is no different, equally insightful and enlightening as two of his previous. Heartfelt thanks, again 🙏🏽

To start off excellent podcast Chuang. I genuinely appreciate you honest work. Thank you so much for all your good work. Chandran represents a non-western iteration of politics and economy. I sincerely appreciate his opinion its refreshing. I cognisant there is two sides to a coin. The both of you did an great job in providing a non western context to the geopolitical issues we are facing today. I am however quite offended with how he describes migrating Malaysians. As a Malaysian who has lived in the antipodes in the past decade, I would say the choice to live here is purely because finances and innately the rights that I enjoy. While I do agree with Chandran that I cannot run away from casual racism, I know all well that I’m protected from institutionalised racism. In my experience in both NZ and AUS, I’ve seen our Malaysian diaspora participate and hold important positions in these countries. In addition to politics, I see plenty professionals we are talking across all races not just the non-Malays thriving in these two countries. Im not saying there is no glass ceiling but the ceiling is definitely higher. I think national identity is defined differently in the antipodes and maybe the UK. Thats an appeal. To allow your children to think they can be the next Rishi Sunak or a Penny Wong is much better than have them told constantly by their fellow countrymen your can't. As such, I disagree with Chandran when he insinuate wanting to be white. Being involved in the education in the antipodes, I've seen young children from various different backgrounds who while are proud of their ethnic identity, identify Australian or Kiwi 1st. We Malaysian are still obsessed with our racial identity our national identity is a muddled mess. I mean we are only Malaysians abroad, in Malaysia our notion of identity still mirrors of that left to us by our colonial masters.

Mr. Chong, The talk with Mr. Chandra is interesting. In Malaysia the Malays have potential to compete in education and economic. Sad that because they are support than there is no reason to compete when things are been spoon fed, therefore no need to complete. This is just to create weakness on the son of the soil by some irresponsible leaders. There has been a strategy to stay in power. I have many Malay friends who are very intelligent and positive but sad to see the nation is going backwards. When you are always given why bother to work for it.

Chandran's insight to geopolitics is brilliant. But I wish to comment on his view of Malaysian race politics that he may fail to understand, which is : the psyche of the Malays minds being obsessed with the seiged mentality. Lets be frank, the fear of the dreaded lost of Malay political power is real to the Malays. If the race demographic is change in the distant future favouring the Chinese, which is plausible, that will be the lowest point of Malay political superiority. Hence, the Malay leaders' obsession with race politics. Malay "lordship" remains paramount importance to the Malays. Multi-racialism, far from being ideal, will be based on these terms.

In that is the failure to see the Malaysian project and Chinese as Malaysians distinct from non Malaysian Chinese. Getting rid of vernacular schools will be a step in the right direction to address this issue. And long as government takes steps to keep public schools secular. The problem too is, once and if the race problem is sorted, hypothetically, religion will be the next dividing line. 😅

Fair comment. From Non Malay (mainly Malaysians of Chinese and Indian heritage) perspective our numbers will continue to decline as a percentage. We cannot see how we can be a threat politically to the Malays when we are becoming less in numbers.

@vijaynair6161 Figures from Google shows Malay etnic group comprised of only 50.1%. Non Malays (Chinese, Indians and others) between 45% to 48%. It will not take much to tip the balance against the Malay numbers, give or take 30 to 40 yrs from now. Here's an excerp from Google : "The demographic composition in the country are as follows. 50.1% of the population are Malay, 22.6% are Chinese, 11.8% are indigenous Bumiputra groups other than the Malays, 6.7% are Indian, and other groups account for 0.7%."

He wanted only the Malays to rule the country and should have Islamic policies in all government undertaking. To shut him down, TM pulled him into UMNO with a good offer so that his barking would stop. Now that he is the PM, he is now implementing his plans visioned when he was in ABIM. He is blinded by his aims that he does not see Malaysia not going anywhere. Looks like we are at the end of the road. It is time we create a third force before GE16. Get a leader who can think of all races and not one particular race. Malaysia is not surviving on the energy of one race but by all Malaysians who are contributing to the development of the nation.

The problem is that the nation is damaged. Main reason is dominance of racist thinking, policies and institutions. Another is state capture by elitists. The sum result is embedded corruption and mediocrity. Attitude of we can import industries, talent cannot last. Corruption must be rooted out like root canal. Racist policies and practices and racial talk must end and not be tolerated. The rule of law must prevail, even while the legal system is reformed. Malaysia does not need to copy Singapore or China. They have serious problems.

Potentially, a trigger event that causes unrest is not so much a gap in food security (which is an issue) where there's inadequate supply but one where people lose their means to sustain themselves. Inflation is perhaps a bigger risk compared to supply shocks that also drive prices up. Inflation faced in Malaysia and almost everywhere else in the world today is attributed to US monetary policy which is not within our control. All efforts must be to stabilise the RM and strengthen it through economic activities moving forward. This I believe is being addressed and more can certainly be done if greater resources are available.

Regarding honesty , good governance , strong anti -corruption. policy is nothing new as the Brilliant Lee Kuan Yew already explained in the 1980s . India - Lee visited India n told Indian leaders , to bring in intelligent people as ministers On how to solve the political ,racial , ethnic religious ,caste , bureacratic issues . Lee also said that India wasted 50 years of misopportunities . Wasting times on politics ,etc Indian did not pay attention . Deng Xiaoping visited Singapore in 1978, Deng saw the progress ,and asked Lee to teach Deng on industrial zone , foreign investnent , cleanliness , housing policy education systens ,civil service etc So Deng went back to China n started in 5 regions in China . Deng changed China governing systems ! Deng had foresight followed pragmatism- So Lee Kuan yew ,a teacher for Singapore , Lee a teacher for Deng n Deng a teacher for China.Rest is history . All Chinese base countries - China , Taiwan , Singapore progress within 30 years (1980-2010) , All became econmic powers . Why did Lee Kuan Yew visited China 32 times - you ask the Malay , Indian - leaders for the answer ?

LKY was brilliant. That’s irrefutable. It’s also irrefutable that he ran a population that was and is still very small that’s made up predominantly of Chinese, making for easier political navigation than a country where the racial breakdown were more dispersed. Furthermore, considering all that Deng had gone through and against the backdrop of the unforgiving history of China of the day, do you seriously believe Deng needed lessons from Lee? Popular pulp and especially Singaporeans love to and robotically perpetuate that myth just because Deng publicly urged his officials to study other economic systems, including Singapore’s .This self-congratulatory and oft-repeated fantasy about Deng learning from LKY is quite a tiresome trope that only embarrasses people who profer this drivel.

DSAI perhaps but the latest Sg Bakap election is not encouraging. I think it is due to the lowering of election rights to those of 18years and above. Those people are still in their nutshell. We still have a long way to go. We must never give up.

One of the biggest scandal known in the world is 1MDB... Thanks to Tony Pua among others risking their life to ensure scandal exposure, yet the general Malays don't seem to be bothered with, maybe because they prefer Jiban and loathe rocket at the same time. As if his contribution doesn't add any credit to him at all. If the scandal wasn't exposed to the world, KJ might still close a blind eye. Hadi will say ntg happen as usual.
