Don Gibson and Marty Robins are out of the same mould ... brilliant singer/songwriters/storytellers.

I love Don Gibson songs. I've got just about every song he ever did. My favorite songs are "Don't Tell Me Your Troubles" and "Oh, Lonesome Me". Another fantastic but underrated song is "Is This the Best I'm Gonna Feel Today". Roy Orbison once dedicated an entire album to Gibson songs.

This version was released in 1961. Don Gibson was a major country artist at the time. As famous as he was as a singer/performer, he was more famous as a songwriter. He actually wrote "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Oh Lonesome Me" on the same day. When he was older, he often referred to his songs as his children and said he had 6 big ones that were still out there making money for dear old dad. You should also check out a version of this song done by Kenny Price in 1972. It's also very good.

This is pure American music like no other! The heart of American. America was the ones who defined popular music in modern times. Not just the great song, great voice, excellent band, it all gloriously comes together magically. Just remember it happened only in AMERICA!

Great choice to listen to. I've always loved his music. I remember hearing years ago that Don Gibson's songs were covered by a lot of blues artists because they basically considered him a country-blues artist. He did write "I Can't Stop Loving You" - a song that Ray Charles turned into a massive hit. Somebody in an interview said, when that song was a hit for Ray you could walk down a street on a summer day when the windows in all the houses were open and hear that song playing all the way down the street.

I just sampled a bit of I Can't Stop Loving You by Don Gibson and yes it is the same song that was covered by Ray Charles. It was Ray that had the definitive hit with it but Don Gibson wrote it (I never knew that before).
@charlesvaughn21922 жыл бұрын
I Can't Stop Loving You is the song Ray Charles recorded-was a Monster hit for him in 1962, and it helped give birth to Ray's "Modern Sounds in Country & Western"volume 1 and 2.

Loved your "sea" reference Harri! Going to a private Catholic H.S., one of the perks was that our Senior Class Trip was a 3-day Cruise to Paradise Island, Nassau, The Bahamas. I was sick as a dog !! We earned the money to charter the bus to Miami thru car washes, selling donuts, etc...parents paid the rest. On top of being seasick, that was bad enough. But when we walked off the ship, it was like walking into a blast furnace..LOL! Some of the guys that were drinking were dropping like flies!! Great song Harri ! Those were the good 'ole days.🤣✌👍

I'm thinking that the bass singer is Ray Walker of the Jordanaires, who sometimes backed Don Gibson. That also explains how it is reminiscent of Elvis, becase the Jordanaires were his backup group for years and years.
