tbh this is the first ever song i memorized and sang (i was like 7) and i sang it for karaoke, never in my life did i receive THAT many compliments (mostly from older folks). But, ig looking back i would also be super impressed if a 7 year old got up and sang a 9 minute song basically from memory

Yeah, one of the songs you can really underestimate at first, but are quite challenging. I'm a bass, but usually can make most songs work (high tenor or sopran pieces often work a octave below; most songs for baritons occasionaly get a bit high, but i can manage) but not this song... First half kind of OK, second gets really exhausting

I actually can’t stand that version. And that was actually the first one I’d ever heard. I was a kid when that version came out. To me, I think it is a musical atrocity compared to Don McLean. Of course, I’m not a Madonna fan anyway. I also don’t like how she condensed the song down so much. But I guess some people love it, and that’s cool. To me, you can’t beat the original though.
