I love how Akane brings a different dynamic to Kitri. We all know Kitri to be a vibrant, fierce and bold character. Akane has brought a more calmer, softer and almost teasing Kitri. I love the usual portrayal of Kitri but I also actually enjoy the softer side that Akane has brought.

Although I think Akane is an amazing dancer I have to disagree. Kitri is, and always will be a fiery, out-of-control teenager and although I think Akane's technique is a 10/10 I also think she needs to work on character

Huh, I actually really like her in that role, it's a bit of a refreshing change from the usual casting of Kitri. And Akane Takada's technique is flawless. I personally also really enjoy her cheeky smile and the outstanding pointe work ♥️

She's got such talent as a ballerina. I am amazed at her skills. My mother was a ballerina herself a long time ago, and she's in awe at how great of a dancer Akane is. I have never watched a performance with her, but I hope to one day. I think that the Royal Ballet films their performances and sells them as a DVD, maybe I can find one of her performances that way.

Akane Takada is a joy to watch live at the ROH; she may not conform to the stereotype of the role, but her artistry is breathtaking and my family seeks out performances that include her. I am flying back early from a business trip in the USA ,so that I will not miss her performing this role.

how is no one talking about her roll-through? and those flying saut de chats? that's what makes her performance so special and satisfying to watch! you don't see any other ballerina roll through her shoes so satisfyingly, smoothly, and with no wobble like akane does. and how she seems to freeze midair in her saut de chats is absolutely gorgeous; to me, it's much more pretty to have that freeze moment in the leaps than to have a wobbly oversplit saut de chat. akane is wonderful!

I’d love to see Akane perform this with Marianela Núñez. They both are excellent dancers and bring so many amazing, yet different, things to the Kitri role and both are beautiful! This is by far my favorite variation in general and that each of them perform! Much love to both💛💛

I honestly don't know how some people commenting can be so negative! I went to the cinema screening last week and I thought the entire production was outstanding. My 82 year old grandmother (an ex- ballet dancer) told me she thought it was one of the most beautiful ballets she has ever watched. (High praise as she has seen countless!). This is supposed to be a ballet of pure fun and enjoyment and some of you critics need to lighten up!

I personally really love her Kitri. Usually, Kitri gives me the impression of a young, bubbly, extroverted girl who doesn't quite know what's happening and just enjoys wherever life takes her. Akane's Kitri, on the other hand, is much more mature, she knows about the difficulties of life. However, she also knows about her appeal to men and she decides to actively have fun with this, flirting and enjoying her youth and freedom. I think that both interpretations of Kitri fit the choreography, the music etc. equally well and I love both of them.

Her technique and lines gorgeous, but she needs to work more on character. Her acting is more suited to the very innocent ingenue than the fiery Kitri. The choice to put her in a white costume instead of red also doesn't express the character so well.

Just because Akane is Japanese doesn't make her any less pretty in white, and she certainly shouldn't be dressed differently to other dancers just because of her race! Please consider what you're saying before you generalize millions of girls and women who definitely look beautiful in whatever color they might be wearing. :) (also "Asian girls" include people of all different skin tones and nationalities, not just paler skinned East/Southeast Asian ppl, thx)

I believe Kitri always wears white in her wedding scene when the whole ballet is being staged, and dresses in red when the pas or variation in being performed outside of the story context, like in a gala or a competition

But there is no one way to play Kitri. Akane's take on the character subtly combines cheeky, passionate, and tender qualities, as opposed to the more full-on exuberance and fun displayed by Nunez, for example. It is good to allow different interpretations from different casts. And as pointed out by others the white costume in Act 3 represents her wedding dress and she suits it perfectly in my view.
