It’s true and it’s very sad Don Rickles was in a class of his own. He never had a script. He always improvised. It was a badge of honor to have Don Rickles put you down. RIP Don I remember you from way back in the 60s and 70s making us laugh. You need to check out his roasts of Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, etc. Don Rickles truly one of the greats, but absolutely the greatest at what he did.

A different time. Unless you grew up in that time you can't imagine what it was truly like and how prevalent racism actually was compared to today. As shocking as he could be, he had the ability to get people of all races together to laugh at each other and themselves. To bring these prejudices out in the open, so that we could all see how stupid and ridiculous they were. And laugh...

Don Rickles is the father of insult comedy. It's good to see that young people can still appreciate his unrelenting attack on all our sensibilities. Strangely, his comedy did not divide us. It had the effect of bringing us all together into the one big dysfunctional mess of competing cultures that we are. His legacy lives on in the savage routines of many popular modern comedians. My favorite Rickles spawn is Lisa Lampanelli.

Don Rickles was in a class by himself. Everyone was a target for him, famous or not. Three friends and me saw Don’s show in Lake Tahoe in 1978. He was the opening act for Frank Sinatra. We sat near the front and he made fun of us a lot, calling us gay and of the way we looked. We laughed as hard as we’ve ever laughed in our lives. It’s too bad that this type of humor cannot be performed today. We could use it. Thanks for doing this Dee and Chod. ❤😊

I am so glad that y'all liked Don - you have a sense of humor. Back in the day, that's what we did ... we laughed at ourselves and each other. Laughter is so good for the soul and making fun of ourselves and our situations, keeps you grounded. That is one of the many reasons we are in trouble today ... somewhere along the line someone decided that we have some right to not be offended - hogwash! Maybe if all of us would start laughing at ourselves and the silly things going on in our world and show that we are not offended, we could turn ourselves around and put society right again. We must change hearts and minds. Thank you for doing this and showing that you have a true sense of humor! God bless you.

The reason Rickles was able to joke about every race was because there was no malice on his part. He made fun of the stereotypes, not the individuals. As others have pointed out, at the end of his act or the roast, he said very kind things about the target(s) and let them know how felt about them as an individual. In today's hypersensitive environment, he exactly the type of comedian that society needs.

To say that Don Rikols wouldn't cut it today with his humor is probably an understatement It is only a few years since he died and he insulted everything and everyone as long as he lived. His last insults were in 2018 when Hollywood stars cheered him on. You should see that program. Don's thank you speech at the end is funny with his insults. His humor was only humor where he insulted all races and nationalities of people. Everyone knew him as a good person.

The way he ripped into Sammy would set the modern black movement man on fire. It was never personal, always about stereotypes. The interesting thing about stereotypes is that every race has them and sees them in others. Some are true for a percentage of people of that race, and that is what makes it possible to make jokes about it. We can all laugh so long as we don't take it personally.

When I was a kid back in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s and Don Rickles was scheduled to be on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, I’d BEG my parents to let me stay up and watch him. Johnny helped give Don exposure on TV when he got Tonight, as they were friends from way back being up & coming comedians in NYC clubs in the late ‘50’s and early ‘60’s. They knew a lot of embarrassing things about each other that they would hint at, and it was outrageously funny. Don was about as savage as the censors would allow. If you want to react to other Rickles bits on KZbin, there are plenty of Tonight Show clips posted with him and Johnny.

Rickles. Mr. Warmth. He was an utter savage. Buddy Hackett told a story about Rickles, Rickles was up on a stage doing a bit in Las Vegas. You can see how he picks people in the audience and then he'll drill down on them, so he had spotted a man in the front whom he thought looked German and he started calling him a nazi, and going after him over and over and over again. Finally the man had enough and he stood up, and he was eye-to-eye with Rickles, when Rickles is on the stage.... Rickles realized the guy was really angry, and he was huge so he changed his tone and said "do you want to spit on a Jew?" And that got the man. He realized he was being ridiculous and broke out laughing. But he was a good two feet taller than Rickles.

He was a fantastic and gifted comedian that you'll remember for the rest of your life. You might seen him years ago for 5 minutes and just one look at this face brings back his performance clearly like it was yesterday. Laughing at his jokes on a screen at home still delivers a ton of entertainment, so I can only imagine how much better he was live. Decades of comedy shows created on a spot, each just for people watching him that day. Create joke that feels offensive and way to deliver it in a way that it's funny.

I love your guys' channel and your authentic reactions you are great together keep going guys.... I've watched you react to a lot of things but I'm so happy that you found Don rickles because he is an absolute American treasure and brought people together there is very "seemingly" racist comedy... But I do want to say one thing.. you said and I've heard other channels say this also but you said he wouldn't be able to do this kind of comedy today... I believe this kind of comedy is going to be what helps bring our country back together and it will come back... We're going through a shake-up right now in our and we will fix the things we need to fix but we will come back around... I'm seventy-eight years old and this kind of extreme change we're going through right will balance itself and we will be better for it... So don't worry keep supporting edgy comedy it's medicine and we need it right now
