Saw him in person once. Even though this is a compilation, he was just as rapid fire as what you see here. Absolutely incredible how many one liners he could fire off without hesitation and it went on for two hours. And the audience was constantly shouting out just like here. Amazing talent.

Rodney Dangerfield was one of the most legendary stand-up comics in history. His peak years were the '70s and '80s when so many of his performances seen in this montage were recorded. His basic theme was "I don't get no respect," and most of his monologues included that phrase somewhere near the beginning. Everybody knew Rodney was the comic who "don't get any respect." All his jokes, and everything about his stand-up schtick, were built around that theme.

“Rodney Dangerfield” was born Jacob Coen, his is a story of perseverance he didn’t find success till he was almost fifty years old His voice, always the red tie Bulging eyes and sweating were part of his act along with not being able to stand still.Very funny man and his fast delivery, he bought jokes from other comedians he incorporated into his act but he was also a very giving man discovering comedians and giving them spots at his club in NY with the likes of Sam Kinison,Andrew Dice Clay,Roseanne Barr and many others along with Caddyshack,he also co starred with Joe Pesci in the movie “Easy Money” “back to School”,Ladybugs and others in his later years. Aw, I love you guys! This was so fun to watch! He was married (or with a girlfriend) at the end of his life, and he had been married at one point, but I think he wasn't always married throughout his career. His "wife" and kids and doctors and all that were all just characters, I think. I laughed a lot during this! I've seen different supercuts of Rodney's jokes and they're not always this good, usually I prefer just watching a particular performance. But this one gave you a good idea of his act: just rapid fire jokes!

He did have a rough childhood. And yes, his dad was a jerk - to put it nicely. It took him years to finally get his break. He sold aluminum siding while he wrote jokes in a big notebook he had. Finally, when he had enough material, he went to some clubs and did his act. His catchphrase was no respect. It started out as just part of a joke and then stuck. There's a bio on him and his second wife talks about him. It's really interesting.

Fun facts: His last public words were to a reporter before going in for heart surgery. They asked him how long he was going to be in the hospital and he said "If all goes well, about a week. If not, about an hour and a half." He never woke up from the anesthesia. Also, on the day he died, the randomized joke of the day on his website was "I tell ya I get no respect from anyone. I bought a cemetery plot. The guy said, 'There goes the neighborhood!'" His wife had them put "There goes the neighborhood" on his tombstone for his epitaph.

I'm 54 and Rodney Dangerfield was really more associated with my parents' generation. Yes - his career took him up into the 80s / 90's; but his biggest era was the 60's and 70's. I think he was so well liked by my parents' generation ( your grandparents?) because those decades were harder decades for the average working person - and since Dangerfield only made fun of himself and his own life - it kind of helped the average person feel better about their own struggles in life. By laughing at Dangerfield's jokes - the average person could quietly tell themself: my life isn't so bad. Anyway - thanks for your reaction - it was fun watching younger people react to an era that has since passed.
