Before the late 60's, early 70's, his type of comedy couldn't be on tv. Before that he played clubs and no one filmed in clubs unless they were making a movie. So all the footage we have of Don is from later in his career. He was in a few movies earlier on but they were pretty tame compared to his stage act.

He was a professional comedian. And when I say professional I mean it. He wasn't a guy who tells a couple of jokes and that's it, he worked to make every joke good. He worked hard to do what he did and he was damn good at it.

As of 1st September 2024 Bob Newhart died in July aged 94 , Ruth buzzi is 88 but not in the best of health and Angie Dickinson is 93. (Just the one's that I could see in the clip probably a couple more)

I think it was Richard Pryor who claimed that Don Rickles was a pretty big deal with Black comics because he got away with shit they always wanted to get away with. I know Eddie Murphy took a lot of inspiration from Don Rickles.

That bit with Will Chamberlain at that Roast is my favourite bit. "...but if he's not laughing, it's not funny." On point what Rickles is about. Not a bit of hate in him. I strongly suggest the "One Night Only" Tribute and a few episodes from CPO Sharkey. There was one bit where Rickles is bossing around some actors like they were little kids, getting them together for a small western performance as cowboys and indians. Great Job putting it together.
