@@bighands69 Peggy was offered 19k as Copy Chief at CGC. That's ~150k in today's money, which happens to be the average salary Amazon was reported to offer at it's new HQ. Not for high positions like Peggy's, the average. Now if you're comparing 1960's office workers to Amazon's shipping team, that's unfair, but even still those low paid workers often have far nicer cars than the rich had back then. Would you really take the luxury standards of Peggy's Plymouth Belvedere over what an average person drives today? We have it so much nicer and it's so sad to me that people can't appreciate it.

Series spoilers: You even see how it’s the bottom dollar that matters to these guys. It’s an inspiring speech, but by the end of the series most of the people in this room are gone: either laid off in the merger (suggested by Don with little oversight by the other partners and NO warning to the staff) or eventually fired in the McCann buyout. To say nothing if the first two times this happened: when they allowed themselves to be bought by PPL, and then when they fled SC to get away from PPL and left most of their staff behind on the sinking ship. For how nice this speech is, ultimately these workers are mere pawns to Don and the partners. They might like to think they care about their employees, but at the end of the day they WILL abandon them if there’s money to be made.

Working weekends? I suppose Don's speech is more motivating than Bill Lumberg saying...hi everyone...what's happening...yeah.....I need you to go ahead and come in on Saturday.....that'll be great....and oh...Sunday, too.

Good luck with that bud. See how well those employees respond when you tell them they lose all their weekends to make you richer, while they get zero compensation. I don't think a free pizza party is going to cut it. There's a reason this show is fiction.

To anybody who thinks the workers have the right attitude here, let me remind you what happens next; They give up their weekends and win Jaguar, yes, but the work was enough to impress the big-wigs at corporate, but not the head of the dealers' association. Herb demanded to have Joan sleep with him, and the partners sent her over. Then after a short while, Don cut ties with Jaguar. Fast-forward one workplace suicide, layoffs, Don getting fired, and getting eaten by McAnn, and how well do you think any of these people fared? They swam the English Channel, but who got the Champagne? Ginzo? Joan? No. Roger Sterling and the heirs to the Burt Cooper estate.

Hit all of the basics of a pep talk. Here's the carrot at the end of the road. Here's the steps and work we need to take to get the carrot. Promise that if the steps are followed you will get the carrot. And promise that if you get the carrot it will be everything and more than expected.
