Today in addition to the 4 parenting styles: Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive, and Uninvolved we have two new and interesting parenting styles: The Helicopter and the Snowplow.
Helicopter parents take charge of the child's time and over-schedule their kids in an effort to give them a competitive edge in everything from school to sports to music. They may even try to manage their child's friendships and social standing. The goal is to create every opportunity for their kids that they can succeed.
The snowplow parent is the parent who constantly forces challenges and obstacles out of their kids’ paths. They have their eye on the future success of their child, and anyone or anything that stands in their way has to be removed. They want to remove any pain or difficulties from their children’s paths so that their kids can succeed. These are the parents who blame the teacher or coach if their child is not performing.
