Of all the episodes over 11 great seasons this one and this scene grabs me the most. Shelley Berman's hesitation in breaking the news is a sublime piece of acting. As a Jewish kid who grew up in Brooklyn I can testify that Larry has tapped into the Jewish meshuga mindset like no one before or since. Hail to thee LD!

It was an inside Jewish joke. When the mourners come back from the cemetery and sit "Shiva" (the 7 days of mourning) at the first meal they eat an egg. Since no one coordinates a bunch of people end up bringing to make sure there are eggs. So if you open the fridge at a Shiva house there are always plenty of eggs in there.
