Years ago I visited a 'poor soul' in Bang Kwang Prison Bangkok. It was a real shock of an experience! I was happy to know I was only visiting! So happy to get out of that place! Many foreigners inside in appalling conditions! Don't even think about doing the wrong things here! These prisons are designed to make a very strong point!

You are not given access to the main prisoner holding areas--too dangerous! I toured the hospital ward, a place where Farangs tried to jump off the roof to kill themselves. Not a pleasant visit!

Being a Diabetic, when I moved over to Thailand to live I brought a rucksack full of insulin with me. I declared it at the Red Gate and the Customs officials requested a Doctor to inspect the insulin. It added a couple of hours waiting for the Doctor to arrive but he was the Man from Del Monte and they allowed me through with my meds. No gratuity was asked for or offered. It was a normal day at the office.

Tip is if you are purchasing duty free ,and yes this happened to me, got stopped outside the airport the police man asked to see inside my duity free bag to find two bottles one for me one for the wife but remember guys you have to have two separate receipts ,if you purchase them on your credit card in your name then technically you bought two bottles, the look on his face said it all when I provided the receipts in separate names ,great vlog as always 😻😻

For the Dutch people, you can go to your pharmacy that gives out your medication and ask for a international medicine passport. They will give that free of charge and it is a official document in english that states your medicine use and what it is for. This is accpepted world wide and is a official document. It is completly free and accepted by thai customs. (use it myself)

Good Video, my last visit last year I had to bring vital medication during my holiday. First step was to print out a drug list that is restricted or banned to your doctor. Sure enough I did not have any on the list. Step two ask your doctor to itemized your drug list and proper dosage. Step three is very important if you are on a 2 week holiday bring only a 2 week supply in original pharmacy container with proper label with your name on it along with proper dosage and it has to match your doctor's list. Step 4 declare your drugs at customs. I got lucky did not have to show anything and was asked this is for my only personal used. Be honest about it it goes long ways. Upon my research you are also allowed to bring certain narcotics like some pain medication you have to fill out a special form in advance and send it to Thailand to have it approved and you are only allow to bring 30 day supply only. If you are not really sure be sure you check the Thailand custom websites and also you can find a Thai lawyer who can sort you out. I always do my research before any travels.

Mee too, gotta have my med every day, having it taken from me is a TRIP HARD STOP 180 turn & back on the plane. I prefer hooking up with locals up in the triangle once its safe & find it from locals. No problems & happy to pay I just have to have the same medicine. Otherwise I gotta go home and split.

I always go through the final gates at the airports after first searching for a very specific group of travellers. We all know the ones, those that live a few countries north of Thailand. They always pack food and other stuff you can't bring and therefore get taken out of the lines for checks. They call it random checks and we all know it's always the same people on the receiving end of the 'random" checks. I try to insert myself into those groups when walking through the exit and so far almost every time me and the group got picked out. The customs officers eventually look at me (clearly European) and then I get told to leave the group and move along. Probably not 100% fool proof and takes a few more minutes, but it has worked for me for nearly 15 years of travelling.

Back in 1991 on one of my 3 trips to Thailand that year I was standing inline waiting to board a plane in Detroit Michigan when I found some dude staring at me. I'm thinking to myself "what's he looking at?" A minute later he walks up and flips a badge on me and asked me to follow him to a back area. He asked me how much money I had on me, and I told him. He then did an inspection on my carry-on bags. I was clean and I knew it. Once he was done I was then told to go ahead and board the plane.

If you pick up anything that is not yours in Thailand it’s classed as theft, so for example a mobile phone left on a bench! Leave it alone. Money on the floor, leave it don’t pick it up and do not put your foot on it. If it’s not yours then leave it alone.

I remember my paperwork going through Singapore being stamped in red - “Penalty for transporting drugs is DEATH”. I’m sure there are other countries that are as strict. Be careful. Thank you. Everything you said is correct. The one particular item is that people are attached to their vitamins. Leave them at home. You will be surprised by the selection at the big stores like Tesco. Not everything is cheaper in Thailand (imported beef is expensive and I am surprised by how expensive coffee can be) however, for the most part, you will be ahead if you buy in Thailand.

Good info Trevor. Playing cards, though not illegal, are a touchy item for bar owners. They are subject to stiff penalties if authorities see any form of gambling on the premises. If you bring cards they should stay in your room. Have been visiting Thailand for three decades. A good rule of thumb is not to bring anything with you that would be devastating if stolen. Watches, cell phones, jewelry being good examples. I have a separate low end mobile I use for travel only. Ditto wristwatch. Your visit to Thailand should be about having a fun time, not displaying your possessions.

Another point when going to buy cigs and alcohol as a couple. "Do not" put two bottles in the same bag and that also goes for tobacco allowance. If you do then the person carrying the two of whatever was bought in duty free will be deemed as having double the allowed amount even though there are two persons traveling together!

A mate a few years ago got arrested at the airport and taken to a police station because he had one bottle of spirits too much. They wouldn't let him go till he paid the £800 fine and even took him to an ATM to get the money out. Needless to say, he has never been back to Thailand.

In regards to medication, you only need to wory about stuff that contains any of the Thai Class 3 psychoactives, like Xanax. For that you need a prescription from your doctor with full description of dosage and the medical condition you suffer from and you are only allowed to bring in one month supply of the drug. Thai Class 4 narcotics, like some opioid painkillers, obviously cannot be carried under any circumstances. All other substances that are not listed on Class 3 or Class 4 registry of Thai Health Ministry can be brought into the country without any additional paperwork.

Unless it’s changed recently, the 1L alcohol rule is not just spirits, it is any alcohol. I once took 3 litre bottles of cider through customs and got stopped, they were going to fine me until i got my wife and child to start crying, soon sent me on my way with the booze!!

Until the two girls I was traveling with told me about it and INSISTED on going. I was the one who actually found it a huge turnoff, as I was never prepared or expecting women to grope and fondle me. We did the ping pong shows etc.. However, the city grew on me and been going ever since (on my own!)

In NYS a pack of cigarettes is like $18.00 a pack. For Rx prescription drugs example my blood pressure and cholesterol most time it is free or less than $1.00. except Viagra or Cialis I get 90 pills for about $30

Good summary, but the same rules apply basically to all countries, including the UK. Paid £65 for 200 Silk Cut in Heathrow duty free, which I thought a rip off. Perfumes etc are dearer than in Boots/online. On Thai prices, local cigarettes are from 70 (£2), local whisky from 300 a bottle (£7.50). E cigarettes also from 300. Any imported goods e.g. wine are usually expensive, as they get taxed at up to 200% as luxuries.

Yes, E cigarettes and vapes currently are not allowed. But per parliament the directive to the police is they are not confiscate or issue any fines for the use or possession. They are only supposed to report the use to keep track of quantity. Recently in Phuket several police officers were reprimand for confiscating several E-cigarette from tourists. The parliament And yes the problem is they don't know how to tax the juice and to regulate it.

You can bring up to 3 months worth of prescription medication into Thailand with a copy of the prescription. In the UK you normally get a copy with the medication. You don't need a letter from your doctor as your prescription has your name on it.

On the e-cig rule its not a taxation issue. I read an article on the subject and it turns out there is some minister in the government that has this irrational thing about them. It doesn't matter if its more healthy, he hates them and that's why they are illegal. Its a tune that's too familiar in the states. We did the same thing with weed in the US.

I was in phuket and vaped and even bought vapes off the street. as long as you aren't being a jerk in front of the police. What they DO flip out about is battery chargers and and sharp instrument. I had a TINY pocket knife on me and they made me sign a confession and were talking about arresting me. It was in my CHECKED BAG. Still illegal. They REALLY flip s'it over the battery packs tho, just let your phone die and don't bring a battery pack.

You talking about drugs, I know an Aussie guy that was pulled to one side for a spot check and they found a sack of pills on him , he was protesting his innocence until he was blue in the face, he was arrested and jailed facing a very severe penalty. The Aussie Embassy sent their representative to assist him and basically on the strength of his testimony they asked Thai authorities for the CCTV footage of when this guy arrived, cost an arm and a leg but they got it a week later, it clearly shows that the bag was tampered with by a guy at customs and put the bag of pills in his bag. When the Thai police caught up with the customs guy they found he had the itinerary of the Aussie passenger as well as copy of passport etc, then the cops showed up at the prison they just opened his cell door and pushed him onto the street, no apologises, nothing etc he later found out that the cell he was sharing with a lot of other dubious characters was their version of death row. So as Trev said be really vigilant.

Oddly besides the e cigarettes also because batteries could be a fire hazard while flying, and 200.000 bot in cost items so far. 200 cigarettes and 1L alcohol I think also is standard anywhere travel. All are the same everywhere you travel. Especially when travelling to a third world country is 99% chance being cheaper, if you don't bring and buy in Thailand. Travelling with drugs not a good idea anywhere, even if the country your going to they are legal. Travelling to the Philippines is the same. Smokes cost about 6 to 7 times cheaper in Philippines than in Canada $16 to $17 per pack of 25 8 packs being 200 in Canada. For one example. alcohol would be about the same way less Philippines, depending what get. Any imports not so much less to local brands way less. Just think anywhere your going imports higher cost local foods or products cheaper.

I've never had an issue with customs wanting to look at my prescriptions. That said, I always bring them in their original containers and have a letter from my doc just in case. Not worth the hassle if they do decide to check my bag. The one thing I'd mention is that certain prescription meds (Xanax, ADHD drugs, etc.) require getting approval ahead of time from the Thai government in addition to the usual precautions.

Importing seeds of any plant are band in most Countries in the world as well as plant cuttings due to disease. Regarding E, cigarettes last year a french woman, tourist was caught smoking an E, cigarette in the street arrested in Pattaya jailed a short time then deported. The odd thing is E, cigarettes are sold openly every where in Thailand.

Very helpful video I have a lot of prescription medication, so I buy a prepayment certificate each year, it saves me a fortune. I always keep my medication in a clear bag in their boxes and with an actual prescription, I've never had any problems . I must admit, I put paracetamol, immodium and vitamins etc in my main hold luggage, never had a problem with that either, buy didn't realise I wad t allowed them. My last visit in January I bought my drone with me, I never got asked about it and it was in my hand luggage, I never used it though because I knew I'd get caught, it's crazy that the paperwork to fly it, takes 2 weeks to come through and you can't apply until you get there.

@@aaronthebom1 Can't believe your pharmacist hasn't told you about pre-payment cert's, they've been around for decades. If your're on more than three items in three months or, 11 items in a year, it's a hell of a lot cheaper. You apply for a pre-payment cert for either three months or a year'. It covers everything, even stuff you might not be on regularly. It's all on-line but you should go and talk to your Pharmacy ASAP. It even tells you about it on the back of every script... Have you never read them? 4th paragraph down headed Can I Get Help To PAY.

Prescription medication. In Australia, you have to see a Dr to get a prescription. That’ll cost you around $75 just for the visit. Then the actual medication could cost you up to $$$$ mega. As a pensioner, I pay approx $6 per each item. So if I have 4 different medications the cost could be; $75 for the Dr appt $24 for the 4 lots of tablets

I don't pay for doctor visits in Aus, it's bulk billed to Medicare. Scripts for blood pressure tabs cost me $11 per month (I'm not on the pension). You need to change your doctor.

Mike McNeil, you might not pay. But that’s about the price the Dr charges Medicare - remember you pay for Medicare through your taxes!! Personally, I have never paid to see my Dr either. DVA pays for my visits. But I know the Dr charges Medicare ( bulk billed) plus the Dr also charges DVA as well for the consultation.

On the medicine my wife was on metformin she was a Thai national her doctor in the US wanted her blood sugar under 100 when her prescription ran out she went to the hospital to get it refilled they wouldn't do it because Thai doctors won't do anything unless it is over 126

Thai Gov have a website for checking prescription medicines. I had to register some diabetes meds on my last trip.

Which is what I did. Oh and to only bring enough for my holiday. Before that my doctors letter & prescription sufficed.
