Here in the Netherlands our normal petrol is Euro 95 but with an ethanol amount of 10%. This fuel is bad for a lot of vehicles, so i always put V-Power or BP Ultimate (great additives) Octane 98 in my 1.4 TSI (& other vehicles). What I also recommend for these engines, especially the 1.4 TSI CAVD (Turbo Compressor) : - Change the bobines every 120.000 km's (75.000 miles). - Check & Change sparkplugs every 30-40.000 km's (25.000 miles). - Change the airfilter (only for stock airfilters) every 30-40000km's (25.000 miles) - Change the fuelfilter every 80000 km's (75.000 miles) - If you fuel up your car with Euro 95, then add additives every 10 fuel ups. - Sometimes drive the car in the high rev zone for 10 minutes, (if the engine is on operating temperature), this causes the engine to clean carbonite on the pistons and clean the katalysator.

I bought one of these in June last year. Bought with 42,000 miles and now up to 73,000. No issues with it what so ever. Regularly serviced with VW the most I’ve had to change is a set of tyres. Not the greatest of fuel that’s my only complaint more suited to city driving. Comfortable, nippy and dependable.

@@Fizzy.g I just find it a bit heavy on fuel, maybe because I’ve changed from a line of Diesel engines. It’s a 2012 this one so one of the later ones. My driving is mainly motorway, perhaps it is the petrol I’ve used but during the winter I struggled to average about 35 mpg but now that the good weather is in seem to have got it up to 40+. I’ve found that to get the higher Mpg on motorway nearly need to be staying at a constant 65-70 mph, any big acceleration seems to just make it eat it. Have always used BP filling station from I bought it and have done regularly cleaning with RedX I was thinking it was a decent quality fuel. But I definitely get you about the cold thing, definitely would not work it hard when it’s cold and just ease it in. Some of the family have a mixture of diesel and TSI VW engines, I’ve found the 1.2TSI in both Golf and Polo seems to be dodgy with timing chain, well in our experience anyway and that was even with regular servicing.
@Fizzy.g
@Fizzy.g 3 жыл бұрын
Oh on the motorway you should be getting 45 ish and possibly higher because that's what I get so maybe get your car scanner because sometimes a broken sensor can actually effect your mpg alot and yeah the 1.2 TSI had the same issue aswell as it's the same generation engine and they're very similar
@calumirvine6697
@calumirvine6697 3 жыл бұрын
@@Fizzy.g yeah starting to get round about that 42ish mark. Also forgot to mention that when I did originally get it last year when it was in the around the 42,000 miles I got it with, after motorway journeys, turbo actuator would stick all the time so sometimes after coming off motorway it would do this massive bounced in like 2nd gear as if you’d had like a really rough gear change or stalled. I put that down to it being pretty low mileage to start off with and probably wasn’t used much, but found when I hit around the 60,000 mark problem seems have gone away don’t know if that’s to do with the actuator flexing more and getting more used not sure but just noticed that. Was originally planning to pull it apart some day and put on some high temperature grease but doesn’t seem to need it anymore, but yeah in the round good engine provided serviced regularly and not abused. Noticed a 1.4TSI Caxa on Auto Trader yesterday with 182,000 miles on it so they can go on well providing they’re looked after.
@Fizzy.g
@Fizzy.g 3 жыл бұрын
Oh ok I get that same thing with the gear change and I was trying to work out what it was because it doesn't always happen so I'll take a look at the turbo actuator and yeah from what I know if these engines are maintained well they can easily go to 200k miles and higher without any major work

Some very good pointers there. I found little to zero issues with my golfV STI 1.4 GT DSG . Second owner starting from 45000km and I am now on 80000km. Alwaýs use high quality oil. I would advize getting the chain replaced on 90000km or on 100000km in order to get another 150000km without running into a surplus of faults. One crucial thing I would of mentioned is that one should also get the gearbox oil (DSG/Auto/manual)serviced too as that can also have an effect on the chain. Generally overlooked but thank me later.

i had a 2010 Golf Mk6 1.4 TSI (twin charger 160 bhp) for almost 10 years and it was a terrible sweet nightmare. I 100% spent more money on repairing the car than what it originally cost me + selling it. It's a very very sensitive engine that feels like it was put together with every piece of it just barely on the edge of breaking down. I did 160,000km on the car during which I replaced the turbo 2x times, water pump/magnetic clutch 3x times, DSG dual clutches 3x times, DSG Mechatronic 1x.... not to mention the weeks and mOnths it spent at the garage and dealership waiting for parts or getting troubleshooted for insanely complicated repairs. It genuinely love the car, but i hated the guts of it at the same time. 10/10 would not recommend unless you're a masochistic f*k like me.

All of the issues you've had with the car sounds like it just needed a bit more maintenance to prevent them. The dsg gearbox is also known to have issues but the manual is fine and the turbo issues shouldn't of happened as it has quite a strong turbo. Also as you do oil changes with good quality oil such as Castrol edge or something even better like millers nanodrive and then always cold started it and always run it on 99 octane fuel and the car should run great

Pretty sure the fuel type used is not to do with the purity of it as you say but the octane level. These engines have a higher compression ratio from typical say Japanese hatchbacks in the same class, as such you need to put 95 octane or higher in them or the fuel will not detonate under the right conditions in the cylinder and essentially cause damage over time (along with reduced perfomance and mpg). Essentially, higher octane fuel wont detonate as easily as lower octane stuff, as such it will ignite at the right time when the spark plug fires in these engines; as opposed to partially igniting too early in random parts of the cylinder. My mechanic has recommended rotating the octane of the fuel too if you cant always afford to use higher stuff, but I will generally put in a tank of 98+ every fourth fill or so and the rest of the time 95+.

Id recommend also waiting for your oil to get up to temp because the viscosity changes and allows the tensioner to function properly, the gauge pointed out in the video is the coolant gauge which is very different, oil usually takes much longer to warm up than coolant, if you can, wait til its above 70C

Great video for promoting general care of your car but please do more research on the octane rating. You mention this is how much oxygen in the fuel and that if you put the wrong one your car won't know what to do with it. Actually octane rating is to do with octane funnily enough and the car knows what to do with it as in, it will advance or retard the timing to maximise power or efficiency without knock/predetonation depending on the octane rating, with a higher octane fuel you can get more power and mileage but it costs more so may or may not be worthwhile depending on what fuel Costa and your priorities, the issue as far as I understand is that the cheaper fuels are of a lower quality and have less of the additives etc that keep the engine and injectors cleaner.
@Fizzy.g
@Fizzy.g 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 💯. And oh with the higher octane fuels doesn't your ECU need a remap so it knows how to use it to it's full potential because the stick tune is usually set for 95 octane on most cars

@@Fizzy.g probably cos it's not true. Petrol is made up of hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbon - the higher the octane number the less volatile it is. Race cars burn very hot and need higher octane levels to stop pre ignition and detonation aka engine knock in the cylinders. A standard car won't see any difference in octane levels, but may have a difference due to different additives in the more premium fuels, which also happen to be higher octane.

Only a good engine if it's 100% been completely completely thoroughly been looked after so it had to be cold started every time, never pushed while cold, always been given shell v power or Tesco momentum fuel and always been serviced every 10k miles with good quality oil. If this wasn't done at one point this engine will fail. If you don't know the exact past of the engine I would say avoid it at all costs. The 1.4 TSI 122 bhp is better in terms of reliability

1. Just start and drive, no need to wait until it idles at under 900rpm. 2. I'm driving around with the 1.4TSI (CAXA), it runs perfect with ANY 95 E10 (10% Ethanol) 3. High octane fuels make the car run a tiny bit more efficient, but the high price of these fuels completely makes it useless. Also the car doesn't run better on the E5. 4. Direct injection engines benefit from having the head cleaned from carbon every 50.000-100.000 km. 5. Coils (called bobines above) only need to be changed when broken. Mine still drives fine with the factory coils (almost 160.000km).
@Fizzy.g
@Fizzy.g 4 ай бұрын
Best to wait until idles under 900rpm as the chain tensioner run off oil pressure so you'd want some pressure to build up. Yes for non twincharged E10 95 Ron is ok. Carbon clean isn't 100% needed aslong as you properly drive the car and rev it out regularly. And yeah coils don't really tend to go but spark plugs need doing every roughly 40k miles

you idiot. it's a procedure the car does when it's under a specific temperature. it's not about a cold day it's about the engine cooling down thoroughly and then when you turn it on it'll start that procedure where it'll cold start so all you do is turn it on let it run and finish its cold start then you drive it.

Yh but the simple version that most people will understand is basically don't put in the low octane fuel as it will damage the engine and I've checked many places and I've seen that liqui Moly and Castrol edge are both really good oil and professionals say to use 5w40 as it is thicker on engines that have over around 80k miles and cars that are remapped

1. Only need to warm the engine up for a normal cold start. Wait around 2 minutes before driving ( if your chain is rattling wait until the rattle is gone) 2. Use 98 or higher octane fuel 3. Change the timing chain every 60k or when it rattles 4. fuel pump shouldn't need changing until it has issues but it'll last really long 5. Oil change every 8000km with 5w40 fully synthetic oil 6. Change filters every 8000km 7. Spark plugs every 25000km 8. If the gearbox oil hasn't been getting change in the past the. I've got a few companies in mind and yeah I'm going to have the Dyno results of before and after and I've already got a 0-60 video out. I'm gonna keep doing updates as the build goes on to show the progression because I'm also planning to possibly go stage 3 with this car aswell.

They can last for 200k+. Easily you just need to run 98+ octane fuel and always do oil changes on time

i am about to buy a 1.4 TFSI GOLF 2010. is it the same motor as the 1.4 TSI 2010? Would you recommend buying this car? Thanks 🙂

There are 2 types. One is the same as mine and the other one is the twincharged. All twincharged models are GT spec

@@Fizzy.g thanks! So the TFSI IS TWIN CHARGED? I am thinking of buying a 2010 1.4 TFSI GOLF with only 8000km..do you think it is a good buy?
@Fizzy.g

The tfsi is for Audi it's the same engine but different branding. The way you can tell between twincharged and the smaller one with just a turbo is the twincharged has a much bigger engine cover and on the golfs they only come in GT spec

It's a good car honestly. Just needs some good maintenance and they last forever. So just do oil changes on time with good quality oil, always cold start it and use good quality fuel e.g v power or momentum and it'll last forever

Hello i have golf 7 1.4 gt tsi 2013 122 hp and it consumes a loooot of oil - 500 km 1l oil I use castrol 5w30 LL what could be the problem?
@Fizzy.g
@Fizzy.g 11 ай бұрын
I'd suggest switching to 5w 40 oil also take off the undertray and check under the car. If it's consuming a huge amount there's possibly a leak somewhere you might need to change a gasket somewhere

@@Fizzy.g i checked under car after after night in the morning, no leakage under ,i tried the smoke test giving gas in idle position , smoke was completely white. They told me engine revisie and costs 1500€.. But I feel they want to take an advantage that Im not so aknowledged and want to take my money.
@Fizzy.g
@Fizzy.g 11 ай бұрын
Hmm I guess you could check it again. Clean the underneath first so then if oil does come out somewhere you'll see fresh oil. Also check the engine breather pipe and also ontop of the engine and the side to see if there is any oil. You basically need to find where this oil is going. Is it leaking out or is it burning it all

@@Fizzy.g Yes , once I saw on top of the engine between some place right on the top a small liquid of oil and I was wondering how can this occur there if the oil is under the engine. And it was so small that you can even wipe it good enough to check if it is oil or just water.
