We agree that the prices are over inflated. Another useful solution that we have found is that if you use the IP Webcam application on Android with no additional downloads on desktop. Once you start the apps cam server it will give you and IP Address for your local network eg. 10.0.0.200:8080 Append /jsfs.html to the IP address for the cam on your local network (10.0.0.200:8080/jsfs.html). Then you can use place that URL into your OBS, XSpliter, or Browser and have a network IP cam. Hope this helps someone as well. We use Galaxy S10 which has a good quality camera anyway. We have no affiliation with this application for the record.
@razemix4 жыл бұрын
IP Webcam is great, but on many phones with crappy Wi-Fi it can cause significant latency and also drop a lot. What you can do instead is use the USB tethering feature. First, activate the airplane mode on your phone. This will ensure that your PC won't use your cellular data and as a bonus you won't get interrupted by phone calls. Second, connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable and activate USB tethering. Now your PC should be connected to a second network (your phone) through the USB cable. Now start the IP Webcam app on your phone and in the desktop app ( ip-webcam.appspot.com/ ) set the IP adress to 192.168.42.129. Voila, you have a pretty solid connection.

I tried droidcam before finding this video, and I wasn't all that impressed. I refunded it almost immediately. I found an alternative called IP webcam, and it feels much more feature-complete even if you use the non-pro version (for instance, being able to swap whether it uses the front or rear camera gives you much more flexibility for placing your phone), and can do higher than 720p resolution. It requires similar set up, but I found it much more robust and versatile.

I was able to buy a Logitech C920, and a few days later a Logitech StreamCam, both for list price, $79.99 and $169.99, respectively, from Logitech directly. I was also able to buy an Elgato HD60S+ capture card from BestBuy at list price, $199.99 (this model is only sold at BestBuy). But you have to look every day to see when, or if, they are back in stock. So far, when they are back, they sell out again in hours. I won't pay the price the pandemic profiteers are asking. However, I would advise waiting until the hardware solution is available, especially on a Mac. In my experience, no software solution ever worked, particularly for Zoom. Thanks for making this video. I've been using EpocCam HD with an iPhone 11 Pro since March and the picture quality is great. I also tried it on my iPhone 7 and the quality was definitely not as good. I will say that if you want audio with EpocCam you have to upgrade to the paid version, but at $7 and a one time cost it wasn't too bad. Also, I can confirm that the audio sometimes gets out of sync as my co-worker has a hard time keeping a straight face when I turn into "kung-fu movie" mode. I find that exiting the app and coming back fixes it. The issue I'm finding with using the phone for a webcam is eye-line. I've tried propping the phone up on boxes while it sits in a stand but it never looks like I'm looking directly at the camera, and often I have to block a lot of my monitor so it's just awkward and not a great WFH solution. I recently bought a bunch of the cheap HD webcams off Amazon and I'm less than impressed. A lot of them, when brought into OBS, seem to default at 640x480 despite being "1080p" I have also noticed when comparing them in zoom they are aliased and not as clear as the cameras that do show up as true HD 1920x1080 in OBS, unfortunately, those tend to be far too red or blue in tone. I am suspicious that Zoom uses the default setting in this case 640x480 despite being set to HD, which is why they look so bad in Zoom. Thanks for this video!

I tried using webcam with zoom I get a mirror imaged and then when I tweak the settings it gets ok then after a while switches itself to mirrored
@reyhudson5634 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand... mirror image? is that because you hold the camera (phone) vertically. Horizontal videoing is the "recommended" format unless you're filming trees or waterfalls. Absolutely drives me CRAZY on newscasts when people have filmed stuff using the camera vertically and then the TV studio's software has filled in mirrors on both sides. (But maybe that's not what you mean, is it?) One thing is sure: though, technically, there are heaps of differences between old style photography and smart - cams, a basic understanding of photography such as the light source and camera settings and capabilities can make a big difference in the final outcome of the image. Like, for example, people video with the window and white curtains BEHIND them, so the camera automatically adjusts their face to be dark and rather grey, or they want to get their girlfriend and the sunset in the same shot so the camera tries to adjust the red sunset to be white and their girlfriend a grey silhouette. TV anchors used to invariable sweat 'cause they were under a mass of hot lights ON THEIR FACES!

ivcam works really good too, it's on android and iPhone, me and my brother have been using it for a while now and it works really good, the quality is great and there have been no issues. You just download the app and the thing on your computer and connect through wifi, doesnt even need to be plugged in.

I couldn't see how to block ripoff sellers in ebay. Anyone know how? I don't want to look at extortionate sellers now, and I certainly don't want to support them once this is all over. Ideally I want to just block sellers I specify from my search results for all time.

Capture cards are being price gouged way worse. I'd recommend a cheap cannon or Sony camera using their utilities and OBS

I agree, I would rather spend that money on a *real* camera, and have a lot more real world functionality. When I had made this video, capture cards had not hit gouging prices yet, and the Canon webcam utility had not been released yet...this crazy world we live in, a month old video now has outdated info, haha. IV cam for IOS is the best meathod I have seen. You connect by either a usb cable or wifi and you can use up to 4K resolution. There is a $10 fee to remove a watermark but it is on the side of the widow and you can drag it off screen in obs if you are streaming. It works great.

I am not sure what I am missing here. I recently, because my PC camera went bad, bought a webcam for $49. I just needed something for doing Zoom sessions. Not being real savvy on these things I guess he is talking about something way more high end than what I bought. What I bought certainly is filling my needs at this point.

Cell phones do a fairly good job, so check out Newtek's NDI apps. These use the phone's camera and transmits via wifi, it's free, and Newtek also has an array of tools to make it one of the most flexible solutions - and it's not that complicated to setup.

I ordered a logitech c922x on Amazon that ended up costing me $117 total ($104 list price). I ordered it April 9th even though it was out of stock (literally out of stock every where I looked.) because it was the cheapest I could find. I just received it on May 20th; AND I am an Amazon Prime member! Obviously, we know why it was delayed. I bought it because I did research and came to the conclusion that it was the best one to get. I already had a web cam but it is 720p and i wanted to upgrade for streaming purposes. Out of curiosity, I looked around for the same model to see other pricing and if I could get it sooner somehow. I even messaged a guy on Kijiji as to why he was selling one for $250 and that it should only be $100, but he said that's what they were going for on ebay and that a person had just bought it for that price. I was surprised!

I have a canon DSLR (EOS 600D) - I use that with Canons webcam beta software, and a portrait lens (50mm). Its amazing. Since I already had the camera, it was cheap, but you can get them second hand for a fairly low price. Just has to be one of the supported cameras, not even a newish model.

rzl smartphone overheats, reduced the longevity of the phone, out of sync, looks like shit and you just lost the function of your phone while streaming. Use GoPro or another type of camera.
@rzlb54 жыл бұрын
@@qigong1001 For sure there will be some tradeoff. But first, you have to know the right ways to mitigate the quality issues which you had mention before. Secondly, nowadays people, in general, take pictures using their smartphones and don't use or buy a camera anymore. Thirdly as I had said before not everybody has a GoPro. If they don't have or use a camera or a GoPro then they should buy a webcam instead.

LOL. Webcams stink. A used Sony HDR-CX handycam from 10-years ago (dozens of models) is abou7t $60 used. Stick that into the $1`5 capture card that you talk about in the future, and the result is superior to any webcam. I even switched out my Sony mirrorless cam for the HDR camcorder because it was superior at tracking a moving subject than the big bulky expensive camera. I think the pandemic has brought out a plot to get KZbinrs to push Mirrorless and DSLR cams when they aren't necessary LOL.

I cant believe people still buy webcams. I thought everyone moved over to digital slr or used the webcam built into the laptops.
@RoamGaming4 жыл бұрын
many laptops don't have built in webcams. side effect of small bezels. and if you are doing this to twitch stream games most laptops are not up to the task. A $1000 dslr plus capture card plus space to actually set the thing up is not a realistic option unless you are a professional streamer / content creator. other options are slowly becoming available for digital camera's (canon just released some software that should cut out the need for capture cards although there are still some serious limitations with their webcam utility) but the odds of a casual user figuring it all out are slim. a webcam is plug and play and dramatically cheaper (even at these inflated prices) than using a dslr. if you go with off-brand products the price for a webcam can drop under $30 pretty easily. a gopro starts at $200 and still requires the capture card and mounting hardware. it is also super wide angle and will distort your face pretty badly. Great for POV shots heliboarding but not so good for closeups. So, it is still cheaper, easier, and faster to use a webcam. I own 3 gopros, a canon dslr, a fuji digital rangefinder, as well as 3 digital video cameras (2 sony and cheap chinese brand). I use a logitech webcam almost exclusively for content creation if i need a live feed to the computer. I use the sony video cameras when i need video but can add it in later in Premier. If your purpose is an occasional zoom meeting than a cheap webcam is fine. If you want to stream, then a slightly better webcam is fine. after all, you only need a small video feed of you in one corner or the other. Huge resolution is not needed and can actually be a hinderance if it slows your computer down trying to process it while streaming. a gopro does not save you any money and only adds complexity to the system. if you already own a gopro or a suitable digital camera with a live output (or a canon with the proprietary canon software and use windows and live in the U.S.) than those options may be easier. but if you are starting from scratch than a $25-$200 webcam is probably still the best option. my 2 cents.
