Thank you. I’ve taken a 13 year break but I’m getting back into it. I feel like others are as well. I was about to buy a dye rize czr but I spent $100 more and I got a vicious ego 10 because of your advice. I always wanted an ego. I watched this video, did some research, found a great deal. It should be arriving today. Can’t wait to get back on the field. Subbed!

Totally agree with 98% of what you said in the video. What wasn't said is the cost of keeping the older guns up and running or getting them to run when you buy a used one online.

Realistically though. Some of these older guns aren't new player friendly. I agree with don't buy an Axe as your first speedball marker. Or a mini. Or anything empire at this point as I've been running into a lot of issues with quality from newer empire markers. But some used midrange guns like a gtek (not 160 or 170r), dye dsr, iv core geos, or old egos are some of the most solid and reliable guns out there. Not to mention so user friendly and at a point where the designing for markers at this point have already topped out. You get everything you would on your high end gun for a fraction of the cost, and still make players wear it.

Scotty thank you again for your knowledge and input on that. I'm glad someone came out and said that about that axe. I couldn't agree more. I also have to agree that you hit EVERY angle to the T in my opinion about buying an older high end marker that can still be used in tournaments still today. Than, a more newer mid level marker. I went that route that you explained and honestly that's one of the best choices I have ever made. I purchased a dye dm12 for $250 3 years ago and a 2008 eclipse ago for $200. Both flawless and both still do just as much if not MORE damage than current mid to high level and markers today. They still turn heads. They always ask what I use and as soon as I tell that. They always laugh give me a fist pump and say you that old school. They shoot like butter ( or something along those lines). Honestly the other view I have which you may or may not agree. But this is just my view. If you remember brass eagle back in the day they made guns at first nothing tournament savvy but ok solid. Toward the end of brass eagles run they started selling to Walmart and making there guns more cheaply made. I believe that is what's happening to the mid and low end empire markets in my opinion. But I just wanted to say thank you again for an awesome video. Please keep them coming I always enjoy watching and learning as well as getting different views and onsite from your videos. Thanks again Scotty your awesome

I mean, you're comparing buying a brand new gun that's in the mid range to a used gun that was once top of the line. I'd agree that the Vanquish 1.5, DM9-11, and Geo 3-3.5 are better than the counterparts presented in this video, but a brand new player may 1. Want their own brand new gun, 2. Want the peace of mind in a warranty, or 3. Be uncomfortable buying used. This advice may be better for someone who was once in the sport, took a hiatus, and then came back because they know how to tech, and have probably bought used or sold their old gear in the past.

At one time I had a 1of1 luxe ice and luxe x, a tokyo cs1, twister lv1, dragon g6r, a wgp karnivor, and a modded trilogy. Sold everything and of course lost my ass in sales. Fast forward to recent. Picked up another trilogy for cheap (have a soft spor for them) and picked up a dm13 for $150 that just needed new Orings and reg seats. Picked up a new tank and a dye ltr. Have maybe $400 in the whole setup and run with the best of em on 3 man days. You don't have to spend thousands on setups to have fun.

thank you for the video ball this is great recommendation, I've been picking up older paintball guns from pawn shops and local paintball shops and getting the ones that had issues to work again. i got a mint Angel SB pewter and modded 2003 pro-stock cocker for 240$... an Etha 2 with an HK UL 68/4500 for 260$... Etek 3 with Dye Rotor and v force mask for 170$... steals.. simple fixes like leaking on/off o-ring or the macro line fitting was screwed into the on/off too far so it was preventing air from flowing fast enough through the gun, i took it off and put more tape on the threads and the gun shoots flawlessly 25bps.. the Etek 3 had a bad cup seal in the LPR piston and i just punched out a silicone circle from a dab container lid with an antenna tube and replaced the broken seal with that silicone and it works flawlessly... the detents were melted from the last owner leaving paint inside the chamber for years but simple maintenance got it going. they just forget about it because they want money to get other things then get out of the hobby in total. the dude got his cocker fixed for 200$ and he didn't answer when they gave him that price.. i got a deal.. look out and ask your local shops for paintball gun used.. they will have shit laying around...

Man the Angel 1 was one of the guns I wish I could get working when I had it as a kiddo. A sponsored player sold me his $400 under retail the same year they came out. Brand new. Dust olive. Sadly it just never shot right and no local techs could troubleshoot it. I think one of the issues was the breach kept flapping open! I avoid angels today just because I never learned how to tech them
@shane_world2033
@shane_world2033 3 жыл бұрын
@@WillBallForSoup i looked into the angels and seems like they were quite flawed with that rotobreach seal swelling and bolt stick, and the over complications that lead to the demise of the brand, when the last gun they developed eliminated that issue and they went out of business before more people could get their hands on this SB version and the true Angel went down with the rest of the ship..its even got a self cleaning eye system where the eyes turn themselves off and the bolt actually blows air at them and cleans them off and turns them back on.. was this the first marker to accomplish this or was this no new technology in 2007-2009? anyways i just need detents for the future, but if anything went wrong with it it would become obsolete instantly lol.

I will never buy a marker new tbh. The fact that you can find high end markers that have less than 20k shots on them for a couple hundred less just makes more sense to me. DSR's/170r's for example you can find for $500-$600 barely used but new they are ab $900.

The newer guns are really cool though. Personally, I don't see the point (and never did) of buying the latest and greatest thing. Usually, there is a few rich kids at every field that buy a marker use it for a month, and sell it for way less than what they paid for it.

The most important thing a newer / budget player needs. Is reliability. If your already on a budget. Nothing is worse then your stuff not working / working horribly. You make some good points. Overly simplified interface with electronics is annoying for sure. So is getting a used gun. Only to find out it was being sold for cheap for a reason. Old O rings that might be hard to find replacements for. Not having the right lube for that older gun. Guns that have a lot of tuning options. Letting the players, in their ignorance; make adjustments that make the whole gun perform much worse. It is easy to make bad adjustments because you don't really understand the pros and cons and overall synergy of the adjustments. As annoying as it can be to use blinking lights. Players messing up their own guns is more annoying and harder to figure out. Players is understand that their gun is not working that well. But won't know which adjustments are causing the problems. If an older gun uses a rechargeable battery. That battery will eventually not work very well. As far as the feel of plastic. I get what you are saying. I would ask. Are you seeing the plastic parts breaking more then the metal parts? While the plastic parts won't feel as good. It does not mean they are inherently bad. In my journey. I bought 3 high end guns over several years. Each one shot amazing for several months. But all of them became unreliable over the course of about 6 months. The gun I got the most work done with. The one I shot out the most people with. Was a cheaper backup gun that just worked. I would occasionally upgrade parts in it. Changing out lesser performing parts for better more reliable parts. It had a lot of plastic. It didn't have a cool screen. It had very few adjustments I could do to it. But in the end. My backup gun. Being reliable. Won me more tournaments and shot out more players then any of my expensive guns. Some people would laugh at it. Some where elitist and dismissive. It is said, there are 2 sides to every story. I'm giving out the other side of your advice. Not disagreeing with you. Only showing the other side.
@WillBallForSoup
@WillBallForSoup 3 жыл бұрын
Woah! What a well thought out reply. I think older guns are already tuned and broken in. Especially if you are purchasing them from an in person gun deal when you can demo them. Orings are easy to find and the only OG guns that take non traditional lubricant are the OG bob longs. Which aren't really recommended unless you're an enthusiast who grew up with them Take the Vanquish 1.5 tons of availability on parts, easy to tune and easy to program DM9-11 are a little more complex. Especially with the LPR And geo3.... Well I kinda ruined the market that gun is $525 now lel

@@WillBallForSoup Thank you for the reply. For all the players and parents that will have similar concerns. Now that I think about it. If your buying a used high end marker. Probably want to go through the settings and make sure they are close to factory default before messing with them further. The most common situation I've seen is when people try to make their guns shoot to fast or too soft. Then they don't work very well in cold weather.

The Axe 2.0 is definitely worth the hype if only because the settings on the aftermarket red line board are just insane. You can program all the way down to the "dwell" setting which is about as customizable as a marker can get. I will say that interpreting the blinks can get tiresome, but if you're too lazy to simply open a manual and figure it out or (God forbid) just memorize what the blinks mean I don't know what to tell you. I paid the extra money for the 2.0 because disassembly is incredibly easy and allows you to keep your gun alive longer. Still, if you're coming at this from the argument that most paintballers are younger guys with little money, I can agree that nearly $500 is daunting for that demographic. If you have an adult job, house, etc that's really not alot. A with everything, ask yourself what level you'll actually be competing at and buy accordingly. Playing a ton of rec ball as I do, the Axe 2.0 dominates the field (unless some richy rich with a CSR comes strolling along) and is great for all around play.

@@crash86ed Ask any non tournament player to even pronounce those two words and you'll ascertain pretty quickly the level of competence you're looking at. ;) Solenoid adjustment is one of the most finicky things with paintball guns and if done incorrectly can render your marker inoperable.
