When you use one of these in the rain, deploy the legs, and then guy it down using the point between each leg and the water drains very well. I spent a night being rained on by the remnants of Francine (8" of rain overnight) and my 270 awning did great keeping us dry. Mine is getting a bit old, and it's not an XL, like this Topoak, so I"ll be buying this one here in a bit. I also run the Topoak tent and it did great in that same rainstorm. Had a lot of condensation, but that's mainly because it was so freakin wet. I just had a microfiber towel up in the tent and wiped down the inside. I've had my tent for two years now and it's holding up great.

Looks great, Casey. Indeed it’s no need to lower the supporting pole in mild weather, the frame of it is strong enough.

The 'spoiler' on the gate is suppose to help keep dust and dirt off the rear window. Common on older Square body Suburbans (owned 5) and early boxy style wagons. They make one for my XJ and considering getting one.

We were fortunate enough to have the other brackets arrive now as well. Unfortunately though my existing tent doesn't have rails on the side to mount them...stay tuned!
@TomwithaDream11 күн бұрын
Spacers under the brackets.... Hockey pucks. Corrosion proof, reasonably solid and firm but just enough give when torquing the bolts, 1 additional inch. Depending on the bolt hole arrangement you might need 2 for each bracket. Can get a 12 pack for a few bucks. I've used them as feet under "heavy duty cabinets" that are bolted since there is no water damage under the cabinet and mounting tongue boxes on my trailers. Very useful items. ('13 Limited Not-Jeep, we don't need to take his hater grief.)

Edit: they sent me a replacement cover. It feels like if it wasn't for this comment and the exposure that I wouldn't have received the replacement. Now that it is repaired, I like it. I received one two months ago in September for my Jeep. It was shipped with factory damage that was a large metal aluminum burr about 3/8" long and 1/8" thick sticking out at a 90° angle. It was big enough that it cut into the cover and had made several punctures in the fabric. Their customer support agreed to ship me a new cover for the trouble of me cutting, filing, and painting the metal repair as that was easier for all concerned and less money for them than a full return shipment and sending a new unit. I repaired the burr where it is hardly noticed; sent them pictures of the repair process. Now they have put me on ignore. I have a damaged cover that leaks water inside the cover when stored and after about 8 emails and two months, I have received no response nor a new cover. There manufacturing, assembly, packaging, and followup customer service is a failure. I may edit this comment if they ever send me a new cover as agreed to?

@@TopoakOverland01 Wow! I've had the exact opposite experience. They actually replaced my entire tent because the very first one I bought, the skylight plastic cracked after using it only once. I think it was defective. There's no real easy way to "repair" it, so they shipped me a whole new tent. You do have to stay on top of them and follow up (not saying you haven't) but they've been very receptive. Sorry for your experience.

I’d use the pocket for a pocket size battery bank. I have the Naturnest. This one looks 95% identical. This one has better poles and straps, but I didn’t notice if it had the upright tension bars that help with channeling water and tightening up the awning.

you have to make gutters each time you leave camp or you are going to go into sleep and you know it will rain. Thats speakers for all the 270 style awnings.
@Mickale-Moranis11 күн бұрын
If the rear door opening is an issue, look to use the passenger side and have that 90* end swing over the windshield area. But all this depends on the planning of using combined separate components, ie a 270* awning, RTT access for ladder placement, rear/side door vehicle access, etc. Does this have the capability to add wind breaker walls along the legs? As for the water collection, look to lower the legs a little and use the guide wires to secure the legs into the ground.

Very similar to my OVS Nomadic HD 270. But cheaper. Outer case seems a bit looser (easier to zip up maybe, but possibly more wind noise?). I actually like the twist locks on the support poles better than the ones on the Topoak. But overall, it looks like a heckuva deal.

I would love to see a comparison with the Overland Vehicle Systems Nomad 270, which I'm considering as my first 270° awning for a JL Rubicon. Double the price of this one, but it seems highly regarded and has been on the market for a while. The report of Topoak ghosting a customer who received a damaged product is setting off some red flags and tingling my spidey sense, to be quite honest. Even if it's a great product, with poor customer service that's not something great for long-term survival in a small market like ours.
