Now I know the obvious choice, go pro if you want more power, but I just really prefer them sexy design and the lightness of the M2 Mac Air. My main concern is: Is overheat going to be a problem? RAM used with no apps opened is very high at 4.8GB. that leaves only 3 GB for the apps. This would slow down the multitasking due to swapping - and that too on a slow SSD. Docker desktop itself needs 5GB RAM. Also, M2 heats up a lot compared to M1.

I agree that 8GB should not be enough for your need, however, macOS consider free RAM as a waste so it always takes up so many RAM to ensure your mac runs fastest. When you open an app or do something that requires RAM, macOS will automatically re-organize the RAM system and that's why my mac usually only takes about 6.5 GB of ram despite it takes 5 Gs at the beginning

Kids don't get munipluated. He doesn't use heavy software like Adobe After Effects, Blender, or Unity (he does basic editing). When you will be abroad, you will feel very lonely getting into online gaming help. worried about weight? Look at the 14-inch options like the Zephyrus G14, Razer Blade 14, and Alienware x14. talking about the coding part I took CS150 Freshman year. I setup VSCode and tried code block, but unfortunately, I didn't like. for C I switched to Ubuntu. You can dual boot with a Windows laptop. Look for the latest generation, either Intel 13 gen or AMD 7000 series. Remember one of his videos past year when he got sponsored by X company? He was talking about the good side of a Windows laptop. Take your decision wisely.

I own a MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019 and works like a beast still no issues and no RAM or processor issues and as a developer I open a lot of things which would otherwise make m1 MacBooks heat up due to no fans in AIR so and it’s up to you which one you would like to prefer cause at last you will be the one to use, cause if you are a heavy user and have a greater budget I would prefer you to go for pro, due to heating and throttling issues.

The only thing i am worried about is that now macos sonoma will only be available for MacBook pro 2018 and later so it means the 2019 MacBook will have the latest Macos for the next 2years. Xcode requires the latest macos version for the latest iOS version support. This is my main concern.

If you’re expecting it to run Vision OS simulator and SDK you might find difficulties with it. Go for M2 16GB, 512 GB atleast for a much future proof version. Because Swift UI makes stuff really intensive.

for future proofing andd the best peformance, I would highly recommend the 16gb variant. I have an 8 gb windows laptop with decent specs an i5 11th gen and the ram holds me back a lot of times. From my experience, 16gb ram would just be a one time investment that you won't regret
