After seeing your review of the Tricolate, I purchased one and it's been a revelation - consistent, easy brewing with juicy and tasty coffee and importantly - a decent volume of coffee every time. My Aeropress and Clever Coffee dripper have been in the cupboard ever since. Your analysis and comparisons to keep consistency are always well thought out and logical. Keep up the good work!

I used my Aeropress as a Tricolate right after viewing your Tricolate review. Like you, I found the Aeropress paper filters would consistently stall the process. I have a set of stainless filters (mesh and two different pore sizes) which I used as a substitute for the paper filter. Here are the flow results for 150 ml of just water: - Paper: 53 seconds (started off quickly, most water was gone by 21 seconds, the remaining water (

I've used cheap Amazon AP filters using it as a tricolate with 10g coffee and never once had stalling. I suspect those papers are much thinner than stock AP filters but it's been so long since I've used authentic AP filters that I forget how they feel.

I have the Able Disk Fine for the Aeropress, can it work?
@illusioniser2 жыл бұрын
I was able to do this without the additional melodrip purchase. I used the top part of a south indian filter press, and set it on top of the aeropress. Voila, instant shower screen.

The new Aeropress XL should Tricolate better than the OG Aeropress...

I’ve actually done something similar before tbh. I have a spare aeropress cap as well so use it on the top with a filter inside instead of a melodrip

Awesome video! Thank you for your investigation 😀. I use my Aeropress as an pour over. 12g coffee (14 Clicks Comandante) with one slowly poured 200ml of water (90-95C), plus a swirl. Drawdown is around 4-5 minutes. Tastes lighter than the tricolate, which I really like.

I feel I should explain as my comment was featured in the video. I wasn't indicating that the Aeropress is EXACTLY like the tricolate or can brew exactly like the tricolate. As someone who is quite frugal with my money at this time, I could not justify the need of purchasing a tricolate to try it's brewing method, and was just speculating that one may get similar results from an Aeropress. Thank you for doing this experiment, however. Fascinating video!
@aramse2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. You shouldn't have to buy a new brewer every few months. This was a fun experiment to try and answer a question and will hopefully help you get some interesting and different brews from your AP. :)

The real question is “does the Tricolate while Tricolating make tastier coffee than the Aeropress while Aeropressing”.
@aramse2 жыл бұрын
Well that's down to taste. Tricolating and AeroPressing produce fairly different brews :)

Aeropress is a much more versatile tool to keep. Beats the tricolate in (I would say) every aspect and it can even behave very similar to it with just a bit of tweaking. I would suggest a coarser grind to avoid filter choking and water just off the boil. From there some recipe adjustment and you'll be right on track for an amazing cup of coffee. In my case I don't see a good reason to invest in a tricolate having an aeropress. For my tricolate style aeropress recipe I use the Gabi Master b and fits perfect.

Everytime I want a sweet, delicious cup of coffee, I use the Aeropress to yield a concentrate and then some bypass to dilute. My recipe is 25gr of coarse grounds (9.3 on Kplus, over 30 clicks con C40), 100ml of water @96°C, Inverted. Steep for one minute and plunge. Then I add 120~130 ml of bypass. Zero bitterness, easy on the stomach, super sweet and rich, buy still clear and juicy. This recipe even beats my best V60 pour overs.

Yup and the South Indian Filter. Both have really tiny holes though so there are some other adjustments that need to be made.

@@aramse and you put the metal screen directly on top of the coffee, which keeps it together even more than in these two methods

a Stagg x or XF works for a "dispersion" screen. Not amazing, but with a swirl before drawdown it works better than raw pouring kettle.

How about a metal filter in the aeropress?
@jierenzheng767011 ай бұрын
Does that mean that if someone can make a modified cap for the Aeropress similar to the Tricolate it would work?
@project86xero2 жыл бұрын
Very nice! Although I'd be curios to try and designing a system for the aeropress that results in something similar but different enough to be viable. First I'd consider using a metal or mesh aeropress filter instead of paper. Also I'd 3d printed or modify a funnel attachment to go on top of the aeropress. Something with a greater volume and slower drip that has large water drops to aid extraction. It's an idea anyway.
@aramse2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there are a lot potential mods although you’d have to stop at some point and decide if it’s worth the effort or if it’s just easier to buy the Tricolate. :) Oh and a metal filter will yield a wildly different cup. More textural but with a lot less clarity.
